October 12, 2013 at 5:15 pm #215444obisgirlParticipantEddie said after tomorrow right, it’ll become obvious who is right for Regina. Imagine, how awesomely funny it would be if the right person is actually Neal?
Neal’s using magic to get back to Neverland, Regina’s using magic as a short cut to get to Henry.
To me, these characters think they want their true love (Neal wants Emma) but don’t consider that their respective true love isn’t the same as what they need now. (Emma needs someone who will always come back for her, love her for her, i.e. Hook; Regina needing someone who will get her back to her old self before she was consumed by revenge and magic, i.e Neal).
Wrote two metas on EvilFire * Beware of Spoilers!
October 12, 2013 at 6:10 pm #215449smallwhitebutterflyParticipantThanks for the metas. I would actually do a Rumple-style laugh if was Neal (even if others are in the room).
Although, I did re-watch 2×02 “We are Both” the other day and was surprised how similar it is to 1×19 “the Return” (I’m talking just the backstory here). However they are BOTH written by Jane so it is most likely just her writing style coming through. Anyways, I’ll post this here incase someone who is good at shipping (seeing parallels etc) is interested, as it isn’t exactly a strength of mine.
Basically if you re-watch “We Are Both” and swap the characters in your mind with the ones from “The Return” as follows:
Regina (We Are Both) —- Baelfire (The Return)
Henry Mills sr. (We Are Both) —- Morraine (The Return)
Cora (We are Both) —- Rumplestiltskin (The Return)
Rumplestiltskin (We Are Both) —- Blue Fairy (The Return)
Anyway, I just happened to think they were very similar. Excited either way to for the next ep now though.

October 13, 2013 at 11:03 am #215515obisgirlParticipantI think I understand this but can you explain it some more?
October 13, 2013 at 1:08 pm #215527smallwhitebutterflyParticipantMy explanation will probably be rubbish, but here goes…
In We Are Both Regina is miserable because of Cora’s obsession with power and her plan for Regina to marry the king. Regina confides in her father Henry saying Cora’s plan is “insanity” and she doesn’t know what to do.
In The Return Baelfire is miserable because Rumple has become consumed by his power. He confides in Morraine about what he should do.
Both Henry and Morraine suggest that Regina/Baelfire seek out a magical being (someone that they know of but neither Henry nor Morraine have actually met this being).
In We Are Both Regina seeks out Rumplestiltskin, and in The Return Baelfire seeks out the Blue Fairy. In both cases neither Regina or Baelfire say that they want to get rid of their parent, just that they don’t know what to do, and in both cases the ‘magical being’ (Rumplestiltskin and the Blue Fairy) provides the “solution”. In both cases this “solution” is a portal to another world.

Glad I didn’t get TOO invested in it (was holding out for actual scenes) but still hoping they’ll understand each other and bond over their screwed up lives and can be good friends for Henry’s sake! I’m going to miss doing metas on how these guys would have been good. I suppose the same goes for any ship: some see similarities & bonding potential as friends and others deem them soul mates for it. Glad Tink gave us a definitive answer!
I’d rather be a little disappointed but know not to hope for it anymore and just enjoy the headcanon and potential that could have been. There are so many directions anything can go in and they can only pick one so I’m sure it’ll be amazing. I know a lot of sections of the fandom are torn apart right now and I feel for them, so if anybody is distraught over the fact that this ship has sunk, I wanted to leave make sure everyone was ok.
It really was fun while it lasted. Can’t wait to see Rumple’s reactions to Robin Hood being his grandson’s step-dad though! They didn’t exactly get off on the right foot. Not quite as delicious an idea as having Regina as his daughter-in-law, but I’ll take what I can get (and I expect it to be amazing and all work out the way it needs to)!
