Interesting clip. I’m guessing after the king locks Cora in the tower, that’s when Rumpel appears to make her an offer.
Yup and based on other spoilers not only does he spin the straw into gold but teaches her to do it too cause there are pics in which Cora does it for the King in front of the court.

Ugh, I don’t want to see Rumpel teaching Cora anything.

And ultimately his own daughter killed him. Also I think why Regina wasn’t all spoiled and selfish when she was younger was maybe because of Henry Sr.’s influence or what little influence he had over Cora. He still retained his kindness even when he was older. I can only imagine what marriage with Cora is like, it reduced him from a tall proud man to a small timid one.
Such tragedy. The man deserved better.

This. Prince Henry seemed like a true gentleman and would have made an amazing husband and father. But thanks to Cora’s deal with Rumpel, he was doomed to be married to that wicked old witch for the rest of his life. Seriously, can someone just drop a house on her already and be done with it?

Anyone else notice the difference in physical traits between Prince Henry and Henry Mills Sr.? The difference in their height was quite noticeable. I know we all shrink a little as we get older but gosh, that was a lot.
These guys are never sloppy when casting roles. They pay close attention to details. I’m really beginning to wonder if they aren’t too separate people after all.
It could be a statement on how powerful Cora is. She made this handsome Prince into a cowardly timid man. They could be trying to draw a parallel.
Cora and Henry together were interesting. I doubt she was really there for the food, makes me wonder if she had designs on the Prince all along.Oh, I think Eva peeved her off royally (pun intended). She was out for payback and set her sights on Prince Henry.
I like your thoughts on drawing a parallel but still. This prince was much too tall and thin. Nothing resembling Henry Mills Sr. I have to remember when AWB was posing as Bae and said to Gold: “I needed you to want it so bad, you would ignore what your eyes were seeing. Do I even look like him at all?” They are sticklers for stuff like this.
I really hope you’re right but I won’t be surprised that’s there’s yet another Henry floating around out there.

And I was startled that they released this, but the Paleyfest thing makes some sense.
Still, OMG I’m feeling like this will be a good episode. Wow.

They’re not plotholes or inconsistencies when it’s showing us the past and then filling in the gaps along the way. We only met the character last week! They already showed that Snow was being a brat and learned her lesson and (until very recently) has always strived to do the right thing in honor of Eva and the things she taught her. So what’s to say that Eva didn’t used to be young and stupid and something showed her the error of her ways? I’m sure we’ll see what made Eva smarten up, maybe even this week. She was young here, people get wiser with age (at least I hope so) and realize that they can’t do the stupid stuff they did as kids, it’s not right. We’ve only seen what Eva became, not where she started out. Give her a chance.
Occasionally other characters may seem a little “out of character” but anything that is from a flashback just means that we haven’t actually gotten to see where they got that power, or why they switched so drastically from good to evil. Give it time and more gaps will be filled in. If they weren’t going to go into what made these people who they are there wouldn’t be that much of a plot to begin with and we wouldn’t have a show to enjoy.
I get the impression that both this episode and the last are showing that not only is “evil isn’t born, it’s made”, but neither is good. People aren’t born pure good or pure evil. It is their actions and life experiences that determine who they become.
I started typing a reply before reading the whole thread, and then I saw that you’d got in first with mentioning how GOOD can be “made, not born,” just like evil is. It’s not lazy writing to show that youngEva was a brat. Lazy writing would have been if she’d been a goodytwoshoes her whole life. Showing that she didn’t start out that way, shows that they’ve put a lot of thought into the events that would cause her to learn and evolve…events that are linked to how Cora DEvolved…events that are still having an effect all these years later in SB. They’re writing a layered, intertwined, expansive story. Not sure how that can be labeled as “lazy writing”.

WORD! Poor Henry really got the short end of the stick. 🙁
One final comment (for now) on this first act…thank God it looks like Regina is finally getting a clue! There were definitely cogs starting to turn in her head in that scene.

Agreed!! Something tells me that before episodes end, Regina will finally realize that Cora has had her own agenda this entire time and it has nothing to do with Henry.

Hmmm, 5th in line for the throne… Does that mean George is Henry’s older brother. And Cora cursed his wife to be one step closer to the throne…Nothing to do with spite, just it would be more convient.
There is a good chance that she believes she loved Rumpel once, evn though she just loved his power… I mean the woman believes she’s not wicked! *cough cough*
I don’t think Cora will die. Her story has so much more in it, they can’t kill her yet. So much history to be told. If they kill her now that would be lost. Sorry, I don’t like it, but I’m afraid she will live, simply because she is too elementary to the plot. Which means somebody else dies… one of their own like they said… that would not be Cora anyways
