Hi, Oncers!
I was re-watching a couple episodes yesterday from season one, and it inspired me to create this thread. Sometimes a show that is as well written as OUAT has little clues and spoilers about storylines that a viewer can miss the first time because he or she is not aware that it is a reference to something that is going to happen later.
For example, I noticed that at about 25:10 mark of “Desperate Souls” that there is a hint to Belle’s story. As Emma enters Gold’s shop to confront him about the explosive “sheep crap oil”, she slams the door, and Gold replies with, “I do hope you’re not gonna break my little bell” (or–if you will–“my little Belle”). This came up four episodes before “Skin Deep” and may be a hint that Belle (or her unnamed cursed persona) is mentally broken and locked up in the hospital.
Furthermore, in the same scene Emma replies to Gold’s bell quip with, “You set the fire.” This could be a hint to Baelfire. (His name translates to “demon fire” or in this context “fire of the Dark One”.) Now, we all know how directly Emma is related to Gold, this is a very pleasant surprise. (Or, as one of my college professors once said, I might be digging too deep here into something that was unintended by the writers.)
Has anyone else been looking back after new revelations have entered the show and seen a reference to the later storylines?

(I have a side theory that Emma is Alice) It was noted also somewhere else on the board that when they leave Neil says “the little guy saved us” and Emma says “yeah the miracle of birth”…. foreshadowing…? I have been rewatching old episodes and notice that things we are learning now are always hinted…. love the thread idea for it!!
February 25, 2013 at 11:49 pm #175518MatthewPaulModeratorThis has been pointed out before, but in “True North”, Emma describes Henry’s dad as “a fireman”, when she tells the fabricated story about him. Another possible play on words with Baelfire’s name.
In “7:15 AM” , August teases Emma about what is inside his box:
August: You really want to know what’s inside it, don’t you?
Emma: No. Well, maybe.
August: I’m going to make you wait. You’re going to have to wait a long time and watch me carry it around. Hauling it to strange and mysterious places. And with each passing moment, the mystery will become more tantalizing. Your imagination will inflame, but so will your frustration. Never knowing – only guessing – what could possibly be inside that box? Or, you could let me buy you a drink sometime and I’ll tell you right now.
This could be seen as foreshadowing that the same exact box is used again in “Tallahassee”, except we don’t find out what is inside until “Manhattan.” It also happens to be the typewriter inside yet again, aside from the piece of paper in it that says “I know you’re Baelfire.”
In “Hat Trick”, Regina says that she knows what happens to those who cross the Queen of Hearts “better than most.” Of course, we later find out that it was because the Queen of Hearts was Cora all along.

“I don’t want my pain erased. Wretched as it is, I need my pain. It makes me who I am. It makes me Grumpy.”

Sean’s Father: Well, what are they going to do? Raise the child in the backseat of a car?
Emma: Some people only have the backseat of a car.
24 episodes later we find out that Emma and Neal literally only had the backseat of their car.
