I’m thinking that what gave the nag (Abigail) the bad attitude is that her father (King Midas) accidentally (or intentionally?) turned her lover, Frederick, into Gold.

In one of our blog comments, I had theorized that the Midas touch would be like a frozen life for anyone who received it—still alive, but unmovable.

That is what i think too. I think Frederick is going to be Abigail’s lover and was “accidentally” turned into gold by her father. Frederick is going to show up in the real world in Ep 13 as a gym teacher unless he gets cut like Mr. K did from the last episode.

I’ve come over to this theory too. I originally thought Frederick was some guard and didn’t matter and wouldn’t come up again. But seeing that there’s an episode about him and knowing that something had to have broken up Abigail’s wedding–I really think this is possible.

Also, I heard today that there is a Grimm story called, “Catherine and Frederick.” It’s not Frederick and Abigail but it’s a funny coincidence at least. I haven’t read the story yet so I don’t know if it could possibly be related to OUAT but I skimmed it and, man, Catherine is a ditz! xD

I think the episode is called “What Happened to Frederick” and not “Whatever Happened to Frederick” sort of like What Kate Did.

that’s a direct reference to Midas’ warning to one of his guard before removing his glove in “The Shepherd.” the tone of Midas’ voice implied that whoever Frederick is, he isn’t some random guy. otherwise he wouldn’t have sounded so “cautious.”

I know that it is a reference to what Midas said, but Midas said “Careful, remember what happened to Frederick.” All i am saying is that the episode is called “What Happened to Frederick” and not Whatever.

Hmm. I don’t know, Obisgirl. I don’t think his cautious tone implies that Frederick was important–just that it IS important to be cautious and not touch his hand or you’ll end up (as a golden statue) like the last person that Midas touched (mostly likely when he was removing Midas’s glove like is happening in that scene): Frederick.

I had initially thought the mention of Frederick was just a funny aside.
