KeymasterSven was clearly the best actor.
No, just kidding (kinda)
What did everyone think of the Frozen cast? Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, the Rock Troll, Sven, Marshmallow? Were you pleased by the actors and Arendelle? Anything you’d change?

ParticipantI was really impressed by the CGI for Pabbie. Marshmellow…not so much.
Overall, I really think that they NAILED the casting. Great continuation for the characters.
Best interpretation so far: Sven.

ParticipantI liked Marshmellow. Sven was good too. Pabbie on the other hand looked….too much like he did in the film? I hoped they’d have gone with a more realistic thing, perhaps a puppet or something. But yeah, I loved it! Elsa was great! Anna, kristoff! I was impressed with Elsa’s magic too. So yeah. I liked how frozen did.

ParticipantI didn’t care for Anna’s characterization. They made her too ditzy and flighty. In the movie, she was excited, not dumb. But her costume was spot on. Much better than Elsa’s dress.
Overall the casting was as close to the the movie as you’re going to get. Maybe a little too close to the movie for Once, since the other takes on fairy tales aren’t carbon copies.

ParticipantIt was just over all great, perfect casting and costume design, CGI was on point with the Trolls, could’ve been better with Marshmallow! And Sven was adorable…the only let down was no Olaf.

ModeratorI already said this in the teaser article I wrote, but I really liked the Frozen casting. Georgina Haig and Elizabeth Lail are great as Elsa and Anna. I’m impressed that this is Elizabeth’s first screen acting gig, as she’s fresh out of college. Kristoff and Sven were great, too. Pabbie looked pretty good for a CGI character, and one cannot complain about John Rhys-Davies’ amazing voice. Marshmallow looked alright, but certainly not their finest CGI work. I’m not against them adding Frozen as a continuation from the events of the movie as opposed to reinventing them, especially when their reinventions can be very hit or miss. While some reinventions can be great like Rumbelle, others can be mediocre like Rapunzel. In all honesty, actually adapting some elements from Tangled into their take on Rapunzel probably would have been the safer bet. They still could have cast against type for Rapunzel, as my main criticism was the way her story was handled rather than how the character looked. Rapunzel on the show felt more like “Ok, let’s just get our take on the character over with and have her as a one off filler episode.” At least the Frozen stuff will give enough time to properly develop these characters, though there should be a fair balance spending enough time with the core cast still. It’s an interesting approach to just simply see beyond the movie’s storyline and see how these characters fit into the Once Upon A Time universe.

KeymasterOverall, everything Frozen related was fine. I agree with Jo that Anna’s characterization was odd; they made her flighty and a bit idiotic.
CGI Rock Troll was good. Marshmallow, not so much. Also CGI snow is totally CGI.
Sven was the best.

ParticipantAs someone who’s only actually watched Frozen properly one time, I thought they got everything pretty well matchy. On the one hand that’s good because changing things from a movie that’s so recent would have been like blasphemy to many. On the other hand, it’s a weird fit for this show that always does its own spin on things. So basically, damned if they do, damned if they don’t, so maybe they just shouldn’t have.
That being said, leaving the movie out of it, the story they have planned for the Frozen characters so far seems fine. If I didn’t have, “they’re trying to cash in” in the back of my mind, and just looked at them as characters that could have been created solely for the show, I’d say they’ve set up an interesting new story to add to the mix.

ModeratorSomeone posted a neat series of gifs comparing the Once Frozen characters to their movie counterparts:

ParticipantI liked that instead of reinventing Frozen, given that it’s so recent, they’ve just continued on from where it left off…. minus Olaf. (Who’s probably off melting somewhere?!)
The casting was spookily accurate and I think that the characterisation was fine – I mean, Anna is the princess who was all set to marry someone she’d just met, she is flighty and slightly stupid.
Sven was HILARIOUS. I don’t know how you cast or get a moose to act, but that was all win.
