What an episode! We found out so many things, confirmed, and denied others. For starters, it doesn’t appear like Jefferson traveled through the hat Emma made him and that he remained in SB. Does that mean Emma didn’t bring magic to SB? Regina said the only magic in SB was what she brought with her, and she had just enough in her magic ring to commission Jefferson to retrieve the very same poisoned apple she used in FTL against SW. That confirms that there is in fact no magic in our world, which was strongly hinted at in the last several episodes. That of course raises the obvious question of how FTL continues to exist and how Jefferson retrieved the apple just after SW bit into it. It seemed like all Regina had to do for Jefferson to retrieve her desired object was to think of the time and place at which she last had the apple in FTL for it to be manifested through the hat. Either the that is a magical property of the hat itself, or It must be that time in FTL works differently to time in our world. It even seems like the events in FTL aren’t necessarily confined to the past but co-occur with events in the present in SB (as if FTL is an alternate universe). Thoughts?

As for magic being present in SB, I’m not quite sure if Regina is really the only one with it. The magic she had was connected to objects she had brought with her from FTL. If magic can be connected to objects, then there ought to be other people who also have it.

How would she do that without some magic? Also if magic is connected to objects you have to wonder if that is why Mr. Gold collects pieces of FTL?

Which is what Jefferson said: Direct me to the time and place.

How would she do that without some magic?I was thinking that. She said she used her last bit of magic for the hat to work so she shouldn’t be able to change his memories. Not unless that’s just a part of the curse, her being able to alter anyones memories at any time :/
And yeah, clearly the hat can move not just in space but in time as well.

So, wouldn’t it make sense that if Emma does have a “seed” of FTL magic in her that is awakened by her belief, that if they could make the hat work they could go back before the curse was enacted and stop the Queen? That’s what I’m thinking makes the most sense.

This is a very interesting theory. The only issues in my mind are how reversing time would change everything as we know it for the central characters. Would Emma go back to FTL and start life all over again as a baby? That would make the actress who plays adult Emma, Jennifer Morrison, obsolete in the series, and it would mean that Henry never existed. I just don’t think that the creators of OUAT would get rid of two of the show’s most central characters like that.
