Thanks for posting these! Turns out, we were wrong. Jane Espenson had apparently tweeted that Gaston was actually transformed into the flower.

I really liked Jeff and Colleen’s smoke theories.

I am totally laughing at that entire notion right now. I totally agree.
My first thought when Belle clipped the rose was also that she was cutting off Gaston’s feet. I ws horrified at the thought, but only because I was thinking he might be returned to his prior self.

I understand from some blog stalking that Jane Espenson who penned this particular episode and did a live chat afterward confirmed that Gaston was indeed turned into the rose — not his sword, nor was he transported. Ahh, de-parting is such sweet sorrow.

Poor Gaston. When Belle made her deal with Rumple she said, “My family, my friends… they will all live?” And Rumple said, “You have my word.” That’s the deal. So why does he think it’s okay to poof Gaston?! I guess he “lived” on as a rose but still… And he did it without a second thought! Booo.

Kind of feel bad for Gaston. Sure I laughed when Rumple turns him into a rose, and then cringed when Belle clipped him. I was kind of hoping we’d get a Gaston backstory at some point (what makes this man have such a low self-esteem? Did his overbearing daddy buy him a knighthood? Can he become a better person and maybe even meet HIS true love someday?) I’m probably alone in wondering any of this, but until we see this Gaston act like a completely steroid-using psychotic: I’m hoping he might be used in another fairytale story down the line.

What fairytale characters didn’t have feet? 😆

I can’t bring myself to hate Gaston, but I think the majority of that is because of the actor. He plays such a sweet guy on Psych that I just see sweet bumbling Buzz when I rewatch “Skin Deep”. I’m hoping he turns back up in Storybrooke.

I find it funny how Rumple turns Gaston into a rose, gives it to Belle, lets Belle clip the rose and put it in a vase on the table then asks Belle what she thought of Gaston.

I may or may not have been all, “OMG, BUZZ!” when I saw him as Gaston. Totally distracted me, it was like watching McNab playing dress up. LOL

Probably. Though imagine if Gaston did turn up trying to get Belle back again, this time in Storybrooke, and Rumple turned him into something else.
