Okay, so now who can and who cannot use magic is now more confusing to me. Because this episode Zelena magic was inherited by Cora she had the gift of magic…Regina also is stated to have the gift of magic…now here’s my confusion. Is magic a gift that just needs to be honed (did I spell that right) in or is something anyone can learn with patients and study. This episode portrayed magic more like the force, only “Special” people have it and can use it. Rumple obviously can use it since he for lack of a better term took his magic from the dagger. Now can Cora use magic because Rumple taught her and infused his magic into her…I’m confused on the topic, someone help.
[adrotate group="5"]April 7, 2014 at 4:13 pm #259986RumplesGirlKeymasterI’m very confused by it as well.
Cora had a “spark” of magic that came from emotions which is why once she tapped into them, she was able to spin quickly.
Regina had a “spark” but was held back for a long time by her love of Daniel and wanting him back. She had to be broken first.
Zelena has more than a spark. She has a big ol’ wam bam punch. Baby Regina wasn’t doing any such thing, so far as we know. There is something MORE powerful about Zelena and I think the answer rests with her father.
So genetically:
magical father + magical mother = super magical baby
magical mother + non-magical father (or vice versa) = magical baby but delayed.
Cora’s mother or father must have had magic in them as well, which is why it passed down. I’d say mother because so far it’s tradition that the women have it.

Cora like you said had the Spark of Magic
Regina and Zelena had the gift of magic.
Jafar his anger kept him alive after he was drowned to death.
Emma The Product of True Love
Henry (This one’s a stretch) Heart of the trust believe, not to mention who he is related too
So I guess we can say magic is only for those special, for the main magic uses of ONCE are all unique and have shown off special qualities as far as I can tell. I might have missed something .

I think Jafar’s mother was magical…and that ring. So he’s magical but delayed.
It’s like Xmen. you can live life not knowing you’re a mutant until you’re some sort of traumatic event as an adolescent

Yes but those who are not magical by birth CAN learn.
Snow is not magical but she can USE magic…she blew the ink off the pages to open the door for instance.
Ana, so far as we know, wasn’t born magical (because neither was Ella and they share the same father) but could learn once she had something to strive. Her lessons with Cora were even more woeful than Regina and Rumple’s early ones.

April 7, 2014 at 4:27 pm #259994storytellerParticipantI think there are two types of magic at play here. The first is the magic that is an inherited trait that is a gift from parent to child which while inherent must be cultivated and brought to fruition. The second kind of magic is as the result of being cursed with it a la Rumple. Now in Regina and Zelena’s case we still need to know how Cora came to her gift which need not have been turned towards her nefarious ends. My suspicion is that Cora’s mother was a magical being of some sort.
Custodian of Graham's darts, Rumple's spindle and Robin's quiver

Both Snow and Charming were non-magical but had a magical baby.
All magic comes with a price!

Yes but that’s the result of True Love.
Jane once said that not all true love babies have magic, but some do. Emma is one that does. And I think that because Snowing is the truest love of true love, their baby was bound to have magic.

I agree. TOTALLY random headcanon but I think her mother might be Morgana

secondly on the topic of the thread if we look at it genetically magic is a recessive gene mostly, but I believe that everyone in enchanted forest has magic gene in part of their make up. i also think that anyone (cough cough Henry) could learn magic by harnessing their emotions just the magic comes more naturally to some than others. because i said that it seems as if magic were a recessive gene than the father would have to have a spark of magic as well. thats my theory until we learn (which we soon will) who the father of Zeleena is.
Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.
