So it’s confirmed our beloved Rumple lives after all, but he’s seems to gave gone well…completely insane. But I have a theory on that. I think Rumple has gone insane to stay sane. Now I know that sounds weird but I’ve heard that people go insane to stay sane especially in tuff situations. The best example of this, perhaps not as harsh though, is the TV show M*A*S*H, which is about a bunch of army doctors in Korea during the Korean war. They are completely insane but they are insane to stay sane especially when dealing with the horrors of war. I know that might seem like a server example considering war and being trapped in a cage are totally different things but it was the best I could think of a certain situation were going insane keeps you sane.

Anyone seen Buffy? In season 6 Buffy was brought back to life by her friends. She was ripped from Heaven. And because of that trauma she acted out for the entire season, did things Savior Buffy wouldnt’ have done because of how messed up she was

True, In fact a better example is a Lazuras pit from Batman, but MASH was the first thing that popped into head for some reason.

Or, back to Oz.March 17, 2014 at 1:35 am #253468PheeParticipantThat’s what I thought too, Cinders, like it was a warning to her that she really doesn’t know what she’s doing and that she thinks having CrazyRumple as her minion is gonna be an advantage, but it’s totally gonna backfire.
I think it’s a sound theory that Rumple has let his mind go as a coping mechanism.

He didn’t look insane to me, in fact he looked completely like his old self, his way old self as in Rumplestiltskin the Dark One, no sign of Mr. Gold. OMG what if the undoing of him actually meant, everything he had achieved, his courage, his heart and mentally as Mr. Gold.
March 17, 2014 at 1:46 am #253476PheeParticipantHis voice was old school Rumple, but he didn’t come across as being all there to me. Old school Rumple was always dignified and in control. Rumple in the cage was jabbering away to himself and shoveling food into his mouth with his fingers like an animal.

She feeds on him. The crazier she becomes, the more overly confident and vengeful she becomes, that’s when she’s more vulnerable to making a mistake that he can take advantage of.
Rumpel clearly is at a disadvantage as he’s lost his magic and is locked up. Rumpel’s only tactic is feed into Zelena’s madness. Rumple knows her well, as he was her teacher. He taught her magic and she’s good at it. But if she’s anything like Regina, when she’s overly confident or angered, that’s when she forgets the minor details and Rumple can take advantage.
March 17, 2014 at 2:11 am #253482SlurpeezParticipantLast time Rumple went this crazy was right before the first dark curse had been unleashed when he was locked in the magically-fortified cell in the dwarf mines. Yet, it was all part of his plan since he was right where he wanted to be. I think Cinders might be right that Rumple meant it as a warning that Zelena shouldn’t have brought Rumple back to SB because it’s all part of his master plan. I think Rumple has some tricks up his sleeve still.
Also, he said, “You feed the madness and it feeds on you.” What exactly do you think he meant? I think perhaps “the madness” could refer to envy, rather than his own madness. It could be part of his cryptic warning to Zelena: be careful not to feed the envy or envy will get the better of you. Hence, how Zelena turned green. Perhaps this was a piece of advice Rumple gave Zelena when he was teaching her magic, but she literally turned green with envy. Now, in her quest to take everything away from her sister, Regina, Zelena will be eaten alive by her own jealousy, in which case, it feeds on her.

March 17, 2014 at 2:21 am #253484CindersParticipantRumple was very specific to Cora when he said he wanted her firstborn, her daughter, that she was important.
He might not have known the particulars, but she certainly is important now. He knows her well, and he knows how to use her madness against her to get what he wants.
Somebody’s got to be the most magical in all the lands, and my money’s on Rumpelstiltzkin. -
