Well,I expect Gold to shine tonight, Robert Carlyle doing a song & dance with our heart strings.
I’m glad somebody gave Hook a vote though. Can’t have him be the underdog, I like an underdog, and that would have meant I would have to have started voting for him myself.

I’d say they’re both driven by love. The loss of love has driven them both to do hateful things.
I adore both of these characters, so can’t choose a side. 😛
With Rumple, we’ve already seen his humble beginnings and know his motivations, so I guess it’s easier for people to appreciate all the conflicting layers that make up the character, and conclude that he’s the better man. We haven’t yet seen what drove Hook to piracy, but whose to say there wasn’t some tragic event that set him on that path, the same way that Rumple was set on his path to becoming the Dark One?
I’ve been wondering all season if Killian’s surname of Jones means he has some familial connection to Davy Jones. If so, then his early life probably wasn’t all sweetness and light. Maybe he had a rough life and ended up resorting to a life of crime to get by. Maybe his father (and/or mother) was a pirate, so it’s the only life he’s ever known. Maybe he has epic mummy issues that means he couldn’t ever allow himself to be emotionally vulnerable with women, so instead he was a manwhore, until he eventually let Milah in, and then he lost her, so reverted to his old ways so as not to get hurt again.
Many don’t think that Hook could be that deep, but I think K&H have proved that they relish in giving their badguys complex origin stories, and that evil isn’t born, it’s made, so I’d expect no less when it comes to Hook’s history. Being open to the possibility that Hook will eventually be revealed to be emotionally complex, and being eager to see it unfold, means I can’t help but love him and be intrigued by him.
Though Rumple’s layers are wonderful, I loved him even before any of that was revealed, because he was da man. I loved how powerful he was, how devious he was, how he manipulated people to his own needs like an absolute pro. The first time we met him, he was locked in a cell like a criminal, looking dangerous, speaking in a creepy, cryptic way…and I was instantly in love. His layers have given me all new levels of appreciation for him, but even before that, I was a Rumplegirl.
In a similar way, even though we were introduced to Hook as being less than honourable, there was instantly something, (beyond the stubbly exterior) that I found compelling.
I’d give them a point each, but I guess that’d be sort of redundant. 😛

Not even a kiss vs manwhore, nice find! 😆 😆
With driven by love or hate I mean Gold is driven by the love for his son. It’s creation, even though his creation (the curse) destructs everything, Hook is driven by his hatred for the man that killed his love (and really, is that not just an excuse?) and is a force of destruction.
Throughout we see Rumple create (his contracts “help” people… at a very high price, yes, but still) while Hook destroys (starting with Rumple’s marriage)So (almost) creation vs destruction?
February 17, 2013 at 3:41 pm #173743craxyfoxParticipantI’m throwing one in for Hook
Both Rumple and Hook are destructive in their own ways, except that most of the time I feel that Rumple brought it upon himself by pushing Bae away and has basically been taking it out on the rest of fairy tale land
and Hook is less creepy 😆February 17, 2013 at 3:48 pm #173745pjsparklesParticipantNext to Regina, Rumple/Gold is my favorite character. So I guess I go that way
I am hooked 😉 though. He’s supposed to be appealing but then again he’s a creeper too.
Final answer: Gold
February 17, 2013 at 3:54 pm #173746JosephineParticipantGold all the way. I’ve been a Dearie since 2011 when people were hestitant to declare their crushes and love for the sparkly, scaley imp. It started as a hesitant Google search for Rumple crushes that turned into a full fledged love by the time “Desperate Souls” hit. Charming may be pretty…and well Charming, but Gold is pure Gold. 😆
Keeper of Rumplestiltskin's and Neal's spears and war paint and crystal ball.
February 17, 2013 at 4:08 pm #173747antbeeParticipantI’m a Gold Digger all the way too.
Hook is nice to look at, but then he opens his mouth and ruins it for me.
February 17, 2013 at 4:29 pm #173753lilredParticipantRUMPELSTILTSKIN! GOLD! RUMPLESTILTSKIN! THE CROCODILE! THE DARK ONE! THE BEAST! The Spinner! The Coward!
….Prince Charming’s fairy-godmother? And any other character he is standing in for. 😆
This character really fascinates me – and Robert Carlyle is just masterful with this part. Was already a fan and then I read the creators and Carlyle discussing how the character morphs with each generation – taking away bits and piece from the people he admires or was effected by. I’ve always had a soft-spot for the Trickster in myths and that is what Rumpel is for me – the ultimate trickster! He’s cunning (and obviously working towards his own ends!) but always allows for free will.
February 17, 2013 at 4:36 pm #173755PriceofMagicParticipantGold all the way.
All magic comes with a price!
Keeper of FelixFebruary 17, 2013 at 4:40 pm #173756spinninggoldParticipant10-3 for Gold. Hookers, where are you?
Antbee, you hate the Irish accent? Really? I find it to be Hook’s one redeeming feature. And the way he is exaggerating it , fantastic, like a caricature. But then again, it reminds me of my teen crush…
Lil’Red Yes part of what I like so much about Rumpel is his intelligence and his way to let all the pieces come together. Hook is far too brass for that. And this thread? Your fault 😆 😆 😆
