Adam and Eddy established long ago that Mr. Gold awoke only after he heard Emma say her name in the Pilot episode, while they were at Granny’s.
Yet tonight it felt like in both scenes between Gold and Regina, he had his memories of who he was. He spoke of children and how you have to put them first, no matter the cost, as if he was speaking of personal experiences. And in the second Regina/Gold meeting he seemed much more Rumple than Gold
Do you think Gold knew who he was before Emma came to town? Or did Regina give him false memories of a lost child and that’s why Gold knew about parenting and the things parents will do.

It makes sense to have the characters’ pasts in SB resemble their real pasts as much as possible. (granted this was otn so for Mary Margaret and dAvid but I am ignoring that. Gold” wrote the curse so couldn’t he have written some of the characters including himself? I don’t know just throwing ideas around.

December 2, 2013 at 12:15 am #227377RumplesGirlKeymasterIn the second meeting when Regina looses her cool, Gold even says “my memory isn’t what it used to be.” Like they were deliberately leading us to believe that Gold had his memories. The way he acts..the first time we saw Mr. Gold (in Welcome to Storybrooke) he was actually very clueless, really had no idea what Regina was talking about. But this time he acts like he is goading her, knows what she is saying and is delighting in trying to get around her.
I honestly thought they were retconning him and was *super irked*
I do think that Gold might have had a son in his Cursed Memories. It would explain a lot.

It wouldn’t make sense when the fact that he had a curse personality was a major plot point last season. I think Cursed!Gold just has a similar relationship to Regina as Rumple. He can still be goading her and enjoying it without being fully aware of what’s going on.
December 2, 2013 at 12:36 am #227388JosephineParticipantI think maybe Gold had a lost son in his false memories. I’m still going with he didn’t get his memories back at all until he heard Emma’s name.
We were talking in chat and wondering about him seeing Emma’s name on the paperwork about Baby Henry and I’ve come to one of two conclusions about that:
- Gold needed to hear Emma’s name from her own lips.
- Regina’s potion about taking away her worries took away Sydney’s detective work and Rumple seeing that name on those papers, erasing all past knowledge of Henry’s birth mother from Storybrooke.
I wonder if Adam will ever give us the correct answer.

Hearing it makes the most sense. But maybe reading it on paper did trigger…something.

December 2, 2013 at 7:18 am #227424PriceofMagicParticipantI agree, the curse didn’t dramatically change everyone but it took away people’s best personality trait.

So maybe Mr Gold lost a son but had no interest in finding him. If Rumple’s best trait is his devotion to his son, then Gold woulnd’t really care if his son had gone missing.
