So which are people more angry at, that Rumple lied to Belle or Rumple killed Zelena behind Belle’s back?

Both.
Heroes don’t murder, right? Well after giving the ultimate sacrifice in 311 and being the hero, now he’s turned his back on it and murdered again. Yes, I get it. Trust me. I haven’t felt the same way about this show since Neal died so I get how *livid* Rumple is. But Neal wouldn’t want this. And the fact that he did it while lying and manipulating Belle just gals me because Rumple was doing so well. He wanted a future with Belle, he gave his life, and I had hoped that being a puppet would show him how dark people can go. I get that he’s in pain but no. She was powerless.
And why didn’t he go to the Vault of Eternal Goo? He stabbed her with the dagger! Shouldn’t the white light POOF thing have happened like it did in 311?

My question would be why did Zelena turn into that china doll when in Desperate Souls Rumple killed a whole load of soldiers with his dagger and they died normally?
I think Zelena would’ve still been a threat which could’ve been an added reason why Rumple killed her. Snow killed Cora when she could’ve just controlled her heart. Snow killed Cora because in that moment she wanted revenge, although she regretted it moments later.
Who’s to say Rumple won’t regret what he did and actually come clean to Belle of his own accord? Rumple confesses instead of Belle finding out on her own? All we’ve seen of Rumple is him in the moment when he decided to enact revenge on Zelena, we’ve not seen the aftermath yet.

@WR RESPONSE:
Oh I suspect Regina and Rumple to have a showdown about this…he literally took away the only family connection she had left. And the fact that it seemed Regina and Zelena came halfway to an understanding about one another…I expect big confrontation in Grannys!
Rumple is sort of the Dorothy because he killed Regina’s sister…And set off another series of unfortunate events! Did he not learn from the Wraith Issue??? I get he was livid about Neal’s death, we all were. But the moment he promised Belle he wouldn’t go after Zelena…it should have been over and done with.
I don’t know whether I’m more upset that he killed the only blood Regina had left, or for the fact he stood and lied to Belle to her face…after proposing to her! I just blame Adam and Eddy…they should know better.

I think the rule only applies if you try to kill yourself with the dagger. Remember in 1×08, “Desperate Souls.” when Rumple killed all of the Duke’s soldiers with the dagger. So, I guess this shows that Rumple did stab himself in 3×11 while killing Pan.
I’m not so angry about either point in the argument as much as I am about this: the beautiful scene in 3×11, my favorite scene in either show, has now been 100% retconned. Let’s nitpick, shall we?
1. Scene Point: Rumple telling Bae how he does have a shot at happiness, even if it’s not with him. Such a beautiful, hopeful moment. Retconned Moment: Neal dying by saving Rumple from the Vault of Eternal Goo. It was either a retcon or cruel, twisted foreshadowing.
2. Scene Point: “And I love you, Belle. You’ve made me stronger.” All that growth between them from 1×12 lead to that moment, and what beauty it was. Retconned Moment: This scene. He made such a point about being honest with Belle, proposed to her even. Then he a.) lies to her and b.) goes back on his promise. You don’t start off a marriage with a lie. Hans (“Frozen”) and Cora learned that the hard way.
It killed so much character development. Rumple’s line in 3×04, “This is my redemption,” is gone. It’s so…horrible.

Agreed. All of Rumple’s beautiful redemption, his character development, and his drive are gone. I call this version of Rumple nihilistic. The reason for his sacrifice in 3×11 has been forfeit. His son is dead. Belle, who could’ve been his reason for living again, now gets the shaft by the man whom she loves, because he’s too consumed by revenge now. She deserved better treatment.
I love Belle. I love Rumple. I want them to be together in the end. I was actually touched by his proposal and the trust he placed in Belle. Yet, I noticed even then that he never actually promised Belle not to harm Zelena, and Rumple is the king of loopholes. Why did this have to happen? Well, because Rumple is still the Dark One I suppose is my only real answer, and the writers have to make him fall back into his dark patterns.
The scene when Rumple kills Zelena is a throw back to 2×1 “Broken” when Belle and Rumple were reunited and she tried to make him promise not to retaliate against Regina for locking Belle up for three decades. Well, Rumple may have promised Belle that time not to lay a finger on Regina, but he found a loophole in that he unleashed the Wraith on Regina, which led to Emma and Snow White being sucked through a portal. Now we have Rumple enacting revenge on Zelena for killing his son and what happens? A time portal opens up, sucking Emma and Hook through it back to the past. It’s all about moving the plot along and history repeating itself now.

May 5, 2014 at 1:18 pm #266531PheeParticipantI don’t really have the words to describe how totally wrong this turn of events was, but several of you have said it perfectly. Urgh, he’s just right back at square one, only this time he turned the person into a statue and shattered them instead of turning them into a snail and stepping on them. And it makes no sense because he’d learned and grown so much. *sigh*
This is another thing to add to the list of “bad crap that wouldn’t have happened if Zelena didn’t exist”, which keeps me wondering if she’s gonna somehow get taken care of in the PAST instead, before she has a chance to wreak all of this havoc. Present day Rumple, with his character growth, knew that it was wrong and did it anyway. Past!Rumple who had far less of a conscience, if he found out via timey wimey means about the future, he’d have no qualms about hunting her down and killing her in the pre-Curse days.
Of course, even if that did happen, it’d be small consolation because Rumple still made that choice to lie to Belle, betray what Neal would have wanted, and killed her in present day. Even if the events change, that’s still a decision that he made at one point in time. I hope Belle tears him a new one when she finds out.

Zelena took away Rumple’s son and Regina said herself if Zelena tried anything, she’d rip out her hear and crush it (Love that Regina still has that Evil Queen side to her).
Regina might be mad at Rumple initially but I think she’d get pat it pretty quickly as there was no love lost between her and Zelena.
I think Rumple meant every word he said to Belle (he didn’t promise not to kill Zelena) and after killing Zelena he swapped the daggers back so Belle has the real one again. I think Belle should be mad at Rumple and make him work for her forgiveness but I hope the writers don’t use this as an excuse to separate them again.

He may not have said “I promise” but he gave the “dagger” back to her as a way of saying, “you can trust me.” He lied. He may have meant that he loved her and wants to be with her, but he toyed with words.
