There has been suggestions for a discussion thread dedicated to FOX’s TV show, Gotham. With the first half of the Season just concluding yesterday, there’s plenty to discuss. Let’s talk about anything that stuck out to you in the past 10 episodes, and feel free to share any theories.

GOTHAM!!!!! Thanks MP
First off I’m loving her!
Nice to have versatile African American Female Characters they can’t all be Storm or Uhura!!! (WHO I LOVE BY THE WAY)
And him
Let me say Gotham and Robin T. made me love the Penguin, like I have always been meh with this character. But this performance and storyline is sweet!
And finally guilty shipping fan girl squeal here, Batman and Catwoman my OTP before I knew what that even meant back in my yougin days. When I use to watch reruns of them doing stuff like this.
So why am I guilty, because they are just kids and part me go Aww and the main part of me goes stop that, no kissy, kissy, go do homework and stop doing that because you are far to young and just no, nah, nope, never, not yet, (looks over to baby sister don’t you dare be getting any ideas) then back to Awwwww its Batman and Catwoman though.
Anyway I am happily happy with Gotham great show for me to geeknerdork out about!

I like seeing Catwoman as a kid. That girl has some spunk. I like her and young Bruce. I hope we get to see them working together this season.
November 25, 2014 at 9:44 pm #291494MatthewPaulModeratorWhat I love about Gotham is the way it’s taken characters we’re all familiar with, but introducing them in a new light. We get to explore what Jim Gordon was like when he first came to Gotham and joined the police force, we get to explore Bruce Wayne’s emotional teenhood following the death of his parents, and we get to see iconic villains in their earlier days. It’s also taken some Batman characters that most casuals wouldn’t be as familiar with such as Don Falcone and Harvey Bullock. The show has also done a great job introducing us to original characters, especially Fish Mooney.
Initially I was concerned that maybe the show was introducing too many Batman villains at once, but they’ve done well gradually developing them as the show progresses. Each of them has also fit organically into the show’s universe. Cobblepot is involved with the Gotham Mafia, Edward Nygma is the forensics operator for the Gotham PD, and Harvey Dent is the assistant District Attorney. What more can I say about Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin that hasn’t already been said? I’m also enjoying Edward Nygma the more and more we see of him. He’s not the Riddler yet, but something’s off about him and he’s delightfully eccentric. We haven’t seen much of Dent, but I’ve enjoyed what we’ve seen of him.
I’m curious how they plan out the rest of the Season. Will the Waynes murder case be resolved by the end of the Season, or will they drag it out till the end of the series? I would like to think the former, as they can easily add new arcs for the series.

I was wondering about that too actually. I think ultimately, it will be dragged out a few seasons. I do wonder if it really was just some random thug responsible and not any of our usual suspects.
Like in the movies, every other Batman movie, the killer changed with the story. I hope Gotham doesn’t do that.

Joe Chill is the traditional killer of Batman’s parents in the comics and in Batman Begins. Normally he’s just a low level thug who committed a simple murder and robbery, but some versions have him as a hired hitman. Who knows if he’ll turn out to be the killer in Gotham, or if they’ll do a twist like how it turned out the Joker was the killer in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman film.

LOL I feel you, Ranisha. I’ve never shipped BatCat before so wasn’t expecting to become enamoured of this pair of teens, but as soon as they met I wanted to ship BabyBatCat and felt weird because they’re only kids. I love how she’s telling him and teaching him things that will help form him into Batman.
I love how they’re portraying Bruce in a way that we can see the roots of Batman starting to take hold in him. Can’t be an easy thing to approach writing, but I’d say they’ve done it perfectly so far.
In the last ep I fell in love with Alfred. He’s been growing on me with each passing ep, and his reaction to the BabyBatCat food fight was lovely, and then seeing him kicking it and taking names, just, LOVE HIM!
I like the dynamic they’ve had a few times where it’s like Alfred and Jim are both in somewhat of a parental role when it comes to looking after Bruce. I like how they’re laying the foundations for these relationships that we know are gonna last for a long time.
Penguin is brilliant, he’s so delightfully diabolical. He’s a mastermind but also out of his ever loving mind all at once. The reveal that he’s been working for Falcone was amazing. He’s got all the big bads wrapped around his finger and is playing them like a pro.
Fish took some warming up to for me, but once I got used to her over the top style, it seemed to fit just right. Dunno if I think she’s gonna end up dead or not, because it might be too obvious if she does, but I’ve gotta believe they named her Fish because Penguin is eating her alive and I just think that’s so clever.
Harvey Bullock has the best lines. On the Legends Of Gotham podcast they reckon that when Nygma snaps it’ll be because of something Harvey does because he always seems to be the one who puts him down, and I’d say that’s a pretty good theory. If anything happens to Harvey I might cry.
My one big gripe with the show at the moment is Barbara. I started out liking her because she wasn’t listening to Montoya because she believed in Jim. But then she started to annoy me when she was insisting on knowing everything about his work, and coming back to Gotham when he’d sent her away to protect her, and then going straight back to Montoya after writing her “Dear Jim” note. He deserves so much better than her, and I hope that in this version of the story they don’t end up getting married. I know Barbara and Jim have a kid in the comics, so I’d rather they went the route of her finding out she’s pregnant before the season is over, but it doesn’t make them get back together. They’ve said that Jim’s gonna become involved with Leslie Tompkins, and I already like him with her more than Barbara even though we haven’t seen them interact yet.
November 26, 2014 at 1:16 am #291510MatthewPaulModeratorNot a huge fan of Barbara Gordon, myself. Jim warns her about the danger she’s in, comes back to Gotham anyway just to get caught by Falcone, and then whines to leave again once she realizes Jim was right?

Never thought of that connection before cool.
Yeah, I’m not crazy about Barbara either. She’s very wishy-washy in her actions.
November 27, 2014 at 10:10 am #291575Ranisha PittsParticipantI loathed Barbara she pissed me off to no end. I’m sorry I agree with all three of you. I am so over her. Because she whines about letting him and guess what she runs and not only does she runs she runs into the bed of her ex. Screw her.
I’m sorry I have no problem with her being hurt scared traumatized I’m all for that because that was scary experience so show some realism there. But you know what most who truly loved and are committed to their fiance or significant other runs to their best friend or mama or sister, to cry on their shoulders as they try to make sense of it all. No not Barbara, she runs to the bed of her ex. Sorry if that is your coping mechanism then that relationship is doom to fail.
Thank you for all allowing me to vent that out but I was so upset with her for cheating on her fiance.
As for babybatcat they are so adorkable.
Also I made the fish penguin connection. I do think Fish will end up dead maybe not this season but she will die. We all know who lives in the batman legacy and it isn’t FISH. hahahahahaha
Phee Fish interpretation is actually a homage to Eartha Kitt I believed who played another version of Catwoman. I realized that in the way she handles her hands almost like claws and the way she speaks. I bet Jada Pinkett studied Eartha Kitt. She just doesn’t purr and not completely over the top with the catness.
