Cameron Monaghan did an interview with TV Guide which seems to confirm Jerome’s death.
http://www.tvguide.com/news/gotham-postmortem-cameron-monaghan-the-last-laugh/
“Theo becomes kind of this twisted father figure character to Jerome in a certain way and it’s a really nice reflection to have Jerome murder his father and then his father figure to murder him within the same episode,” Monaghan says, noting that Theo ultimately realized that his goals could be better achieved without Jerome as a wild card.
“Jerome is extremely dangerous and extremely volatile,” Monaghan says. “I think one of the defining factors of him is that he doesn’t take a step back and because of that, he’s extremely unpredictable. I think Theo had an awareness of that and utilized it to his advantage. But he knew that if he kept him around for any longer, his own self would probably be in jeopardy as well. So, he had to take out the free radical in the situation.”
🙁
The writers have shot themselves in the foot good and proper. No matter who is revealed to be the “actual” Joker down the road, they’ll always just be known as a copycat of Jerome.
Gotham is basically doing what Once does, show us one thing but tell us the opposite. Jerome was shown to clearly be the Joker in all but name but the show is telling us that he isn’t. The show could’ve sent Jerome back to Arkham and left the audience with a *nudge nudge wink wink* in regards to whether or not Jerome is the actual Joker.
Here’s a question: If the writers did decide to bring Jerome back despite his death (the same could be applied for any dead favourite character on any show), but the way it was written was really plot devicey (ie It was all a set up, Jerome wasn’t really dead at all, etc) Would you accept it just to have your favourite character back on screen and involved in storylines again?

October 6, 2015 at 11:30 pm #309403RumplesGirlKeymasterWhen it comes to what happened to Jerome I am of two minds.
1) As a comic book nerd, the idea of the Joker having a clear origin story did bug me. He’s never supposed to have one; he’s just representative of all the chaos and anarchy in Gotham and he’s the antithesis to what Bruce is striving towards.
BUT
2) On the other hand, Jerome was so engaging and watchable as the Baby! Joker, that I really found myself not caring that they were giving the Joker an origin story. I welcomed it because, while really not “okay” from a canon standpoint, Jerome’s performance really sold me and I would have watched, gladly, what they did with him.
So overall, I’m really bummed they killed Jerome. He was the high selling point of this season so far. He’s far more interesting than any of the other villains at present. Penguin started off as the high point but I’m not as engaged by him as I was with Jerome. Nygma is fascinating but he is too often sidelined. Theo…okay, Theo is interesting BUT he’s so totally in the vein of “Daredevil’s” Wilson Fisk (bad guy who wants to be lauded as a hero. He wants to clean up the city that he’s willing to burn it to the ground in order to rebuild it) that I find myself comparing the two. And, well….Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk was just mind blowing and Theo’s actor isn’t quite up to that largely because Gotham doesn’t go for the subtle nuances in portrayals that Daredevil did.
Other bits and pieces
–Barbara beyond bonkers is my favorite sort of Barbara. One of the smartest things this show did was make her crazy.
–I am so worried for Harvey. I think they’re gonna off him. BUT when the show gives Donal Logue something, man does he make it sing. His “talk” with Penguin was dynamite. “You’ll always be that umbrella boy…” #NailedIt
–Baby Batman didn’t bother me so much this round, though good LORD I could do without trying to make 13 year old have romantic relationships. If Baby! Batman and Baby! Catwoman want to grow up and have BatCats then by all means…but let them be kids for awhile. I also just don’t think they have anything in common. I also agree that the writers don’t know what to do with Selina right now.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 7, 2015 at 5:00 pm #309460Ranisha PittsParticipantI am stuck in a rut! I for one love the idea of Jerome being Joker. LOVED IT LOVED IT. I dont expect Gotham to be the comics, we have the comics for the comics and we have the show for the show. So therefore having them developing a kniffy origin story with the Joker I don’t mind. I saw something of that nature with 90s movie Batman with Michael K and Jack N. Even the 90s cartoon Batman revealed a little bit about the Joker as a hit man in Mask of the Phantom who was betrayed.
I always thought Theo will betrayed Jerome that he will either cut his face or he gets the acid topical face mask. However I did not expect Jerome to be killed off or even harm that soon. The things is they could have at least teased Jerome for some time all of season 2.
And then there is this thought. I can agree with POM the Jerome was everything Joker was and to have someone later to say guess what I am inspired by Jerome maniacal personality is not the Joker to me. The person will be simple a Jokerz (the gang that followed in Joker footsteps in Batman Beyond).
Then there is this, I love the shock factor of being wrong when I thought I was so right! I loved it so even with the disappointment. I really enjoyed that episode a lot and enjoyed the shock factor. ( I do love a good shock factor!)
But now I feel like where do you go from here. I fear that the momentum will be greatly slowed down and I feel like they hit off in a great sprint and now will be lulled down to a stroll. I hope I am wrong and the story keeps me on edge of my seat.
Crazy Barbara is fun!
Leslie helps Balance the Crazy. She is darling compassionate character. And I love her interaction with Gordon.
Gordon: Being all made and on a mission is rather nice.
Harvey: 🙁
Bruce and Jerome: Enough said
Cat is simply a cat she sleeks in, steals stuff, nuzzle with Bruce, and then sneaks out. I don’t expect a big storyline with her no more then her becoming Catwoman. (I still say Fish training Cat would be nice. Of course maybe Theo’s sister may take a liking to her)
@RumplesGirl be prepared I think Bruce, and Cat, and some other girl from his school maybe involved in a love triangle. -_- Like No.I really want Jerome back that magic show with Barbara hit me right in the childhood!
So now what are they going to do the rest of the season and will we care or lose interest…..
Please bring Jerome back….

This is the biggest question I have right now. Gotham almost lost me at the end of S1. I was totally uninterested by seasons end. I only decided to watch S2 premiere on a whim and was impressed by how the show had done an almost 180. The second episode was the highlight of the series and, to quote Jerome, it “was surprisingly pleasant.” Only time and narrative will tell if killing Jerome was the shot in the foot, as POM is calling it. If the writers can keep up the momentum and stay focused (and not get bogged down in case of the week procedural) then it might work, though I agree that they are now lacking a character who is as engaging as Jerome was. The writers need to bring the other villains, particularly Barbara, in to fill the Jerome size hole in the show.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 8, 2015 at 5:55 pm #309529PriceofMagicParticipantI think episode 4 of Gotham will do as well as the first 3 because people will be curious to see what direction the season is going to go after the stupid decision to kill off Jerome. However, I think episode 5 will be the real indicator of interest in the season whether it will start to drop or remain steady.

Keeper of FelixOctober 16, 2015 at 7:42 am #310064PriceofMagicParticipantCame across this and thought it would be of interest.
http://screenrant.com/gotham-season-2-joker-return/
The Batman prequel series Gotham has taken its share of liberties with the accepted mythology of the Dark Knight and his world. One major point of interest with fans is how the series is going to handle the ascension and evolution of the most popular and anticipated of Batman villains, The Joker.
The recent and sudden demise of the heir apparent to the mantle of the Clown Prince of Crime – during the episode “The Last Laugh” – caught a lot of fans off guard and was certainly a source for confusion. Now, hints that come out of the New York Comic Con 2015 seem to indicate that perhaps we haven’t seen the last of Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan).
During the Gotham NYCC 2015 panel, writer and executive producer John Stephens had the following to say on the topic of the Joker and his legacy:
“If you watch the episodes closely, as they go forward this year you’ll start seeing the seeds of the way that story will continue to develop. And we probably have not seen the last of that fellow.”
Thoughts?

Keeper of FelixOctober 22, 2015 at 7:56 am #310582Ranisha PittsParticipant@PriceofMagic Jerome will live on. And refuse to believe he is dead.
Also notice the Fish mention last episode that maybe she is not dead. If Fish can come back so can Jerome. Of course Jerome was stab in the juglar and ended in the morgue. While Fish merely fell of a building into dark open water body never recovered. sooo I say shut up logic Jerome is not dead he will come back with splash. Jerome will get the last laugh. Perhaps Doctor Dollmaker (?) can fix him up.
Okay so the last two episode post Jerome.
I must say I did like Penguin being challenge in that episode and his desperation to do anything for his mother to be safe.
Also the introduction of the nymphet Silvercloud blonde and dress in white playing in fountain of water created to allure dear old master Bruce. Can we say creepy much. (Of course I have some critical things I have regarding Silvercloud and cat who are they really suppose to be enticing young boys or grown men? that is for another debate or issue)
Anyway I get it Silvercloud is a trap and after watching the episode where we get a female firefly (I like watching her develop into a villain. She went from fragile, humble, squeaky little mouse to a villain who killed a cop. She tasted power and she liked it. I digress) Back to Silvercloud; Does Bruce really need a love triangle the kid is recovering from watching his parents being murder so a love triangle I am kind of meh on. Of course she is basically a Delilah or Salome (biblical references) for Bruce who Galavan wants dead because of an old family fued that involved seduction and a limb being dismember.
And seriously what is up with all the missing limbs, organs, and appendages on Gotham.
Poor Butch. I am mad at Penguin for that. Fish needs to come back and save her baby who shot her because it was complicated. Butch loves and misses Fish.
I have to say I am getting bored with the Galavans and their sleepy hollow backstory was utterly cheesy. I am not sure if Galavan can hold my interest all season watching him try to rise to power and kill Bruce Wayne (dun dun dun). Because you know that is not going to happen. He grows up to be Batman so any attempts on his life will end in failure. I am actually rooting for the Penguin to take him out.
Also Theo’s sister, I get it she is a hot psycho killer who is just to cool for school and easily bored. Theo once said she may not look it but she is fragile. Well hello Gotham let me see some of that fragility in her. Because hey girl who is always bored you are boring me.
Cat I enjoyed the little nuggets we got with her so her mother was a working girl? We also learn Cat is basically a stray cat that wants a family like. Also Fish loved Cat enough that word spread and Cat now has street cred. I mean I know Fish like Cat but were they together long enough that Cat can vouch for Fish in Fish absence. Who cares I like the connection but I wanted Cat to be more closely trained by Fish. Miss opportunity of season 1.
Then there was that double date. That was cute and light hearted. But I still say there is something secretly dark about Ms. Kringle.
Overall I like Strike Force episode. Strike force is a nice team. We need a squad to combat the villains. Because too much dark is not good. There must be balance, ying and yang. However I can help but think they all be dead by the end of the season. New Chief is good, he wants to make a difference. He may be dead to. Along with Harvey who somehow manage to knock up Rollins from Special Victims Unit (Law and Order reference).
As for Scarification I am more meh about it. Don’t hate it don’t love it. But that was mostly due to Galavans boring the crap out of me this episode. There is something about a long drawn out plan that you know is not going to work because Bruce wont be dying. Strongest point was FireFly being born and Penguin/Butch/Cat interactions
If I had my way Galavan would be more interested in destroying Gotham but rebuilding it into something better. You know the crazies that think the ends justify the means. bring order out of chaos. Also instead of trying to kill Bruce perhaps take him under his wings to teach him because he sees something special in Bruce. Perhaps Theo also lost his parents to violence which could further foster connection between he and Bruce. This leads to Bruce dealing with some internal conflict of where is the line drawn. But I guess that is Raul’s job?
Okay I think I ramble enough. I need coffee and medicine and rest and then I will come back and read this thing and be like what am I even talking about who wrote this nonsense. !?!

October 22, 2015 at 2:06 pm #310607WickedRegalParticipantMark my words people, Fish Mooney is coming back!!! All that hinting this past episode, because as we all know, Penguin is good, but he’s not Fish…..Galavan would’ve been dead had Fish still been around because there’s nothing he could have held over her head, in the words of Cora pertaining to Penguin, “love is weakness”.
“It’s All Good!” – Fish Mooney
Even Robin Taylor at Comic Con expresses how there’s quite the possibility Fish is out there lurking, waiting to strike like a shark.
Yes Robin….Fish can swim. If this woman can survive all she has, including flying a helicopter with a bullet in her gut, being tossed into water couldn’t have taken her out.
But Penguin….I’ve just got that feeling his mother is going to wind up dead in the end. That would be the final push needed for him to evolve into that horrid Mr. Penguin we know he’s one day to become, and kudos to Robin Taylor for playing the heck out of this role….Penguin is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

October 22, 2015 at 2:40 pm #310620Ranisha PittsParticipantWhat am I even talking about, who wrote this nonsense!
@TheWatcher yes I love that Penguins is slowly becoming the dark creepy character. I dont know about you but I see a little Danny Devito in him. It seems to me Gotham is more like the 90s Michael Keaton Batman. One of Penguins female henchman reminds me of Gotham Penguin’s mother. I will post a pic of this later when I can find one."I will be kind but I will speak my mind."
