I’m not sure whether Gotham is trying to be a prequel or it’s own AU. It’s original premise was that it was a prequel, however, it has done things that would suggest it is its own continuity such as killing off Maroni before he throws acid in Harvey Dent’s face and causes him to become Two Face, killing off Essen who married Gordon, Made Leslie younger when she was more Alfred’s age, etc. They’ve kind of but hopefully not really killed off the Joker (I believe Jerome to be Gotham’s pre-Joker Joker. If you rearrange “Jerome Valeska”, you get “me a Joker slave” or “Joker save meal “. Either way Jerome’s name has Joker in it).
The only thing we can be certain of is that Bruce will become Batman one day and his parents were murdered. Those are unchangeable events. Everything else in between is open to interpretation.
Barbara hasn’t done much so far and the excuse being “she sleeps a lot” is a bit of a cop out. Galavan’s sister has also been wasted and is boring because she doesn’t do anything other than make out with Barbara. Galavan started out interesting but the moment he killed Jerome, he’s become a cliché. Obviously he is trying to act like Gotham’s hero but and the tropes that go with that but he’s almost become like a pantomime villain.
I think all the strike force is going to be killed and that will make the new captain jaded to the point where he loses his idealism and becomes corrupt. Jim’s got to get the commissioner job somehow.

Keeper of FelixOctober 22, 2015 at 6:53 pm #310657RumplesGirlKeymasterI was behind but I just got caught up on the past two weeks. And here’s the thing: Gotham has reverted back to its S1 unstructured and unfocused mess. Killing off Joker and ending the Maniax arc did not serve the show. I’ll stick around for a bit but the show is going to have to work to keep me. It started off very strong this season by really focusing on one set story, the rise of certain villains and managing to work its long standing mythology in with its own unique twists. But now it’s back to its case of the week, too much mythology too fast, too little focus, no heart, cliche and hammy performances.
Passing thoughts, as the come to me.
–Barbara was interesting but now she just kisses Tigress because the show wants to be forward thinking and innovative but women kissing just for shock value and without any sort of narrative behind it, or developing it outside of sexual decoration…ooof. It rubs me the wrong way.
–I don’t find Theo compelling. Or at least not as compelling as Jerome was, Penguin (usually) is and Nygma can be. BUT…if we’re doing the St. Dumas storyline (complete with Azarel) I might change my tune. I do love me some religious mischievousness and anti Savior figures.
–Captain Barnes is annoying as HECK. I get it; he’s supposed to be an older version of Gordon with his heroic streak and his focus and determination to Justice and the Law (capital letters because Gordon and Barnes think in terms of sweeping cosmic themes where Justice and the Law are actual universal entities). But goooood lord. Talk about a hammy performance. The actor just chews through the scenery (while he’s throwing the actual scenery around)
–Am I going mad or did Alfred punch Selina Kyle?
–I will endure Kristen Kringle and Nygma dating IF Evil! Nygma comes out to play and turns Kristen into Harley.
–Bruce Wayne has a new love interest. Because that’s what 13 year olds need.
–The show is so unfocused. Is it mythology based or case of the week. Is it cartoony (most of the performances) or is it supposed to be a gritty and realistic look at life in a corrupt city that is in need of a hero?
–Making Firefly a girl is a unique twist but I can’t decide if they are doing it because they already have too many male villains on this show or because there is a larger point.

I dont know about you but I see a little Danny Devito in him. It seems to me Gotham is more like the 90s Michael Keaton Batman. One of Penguins female henchman reminds me of Gotham Penguin’s mother. I will post a pic of this later when I can find one.
So I found the pic of that woman from the red triangle circus gang
The Poodle Lady
his mother could be an inspired by her except she has no poodles tho. LOL

October 27, 2015 at 8:13 pm #311089RumplesGirlKeymasterI just finished this week episode of Gotham, “By Fire.” It was…okay. I have some issues with the way the show builds their characters and their motivations. For example, this is pretty common in Gotham:
–the new Captain, Barnes, vacillates quite a bit in this episode but without showing the audience *why.* In his first scene, with Gordon, Barnes yells about how there are lines and he and Gordon cannot break the law in order to bring criminals to justice. It’s a fine scene that shows Gordon’s anger and how Barnes does not agree with Gordon’s new “grey” take. Gordon makes his case, which isn’t overly compelling, and we leave them there. Toward the end of the episode, Barnes comes back into the show, but this time he tells Gordon to stop Firefly “by any means necessary” which means those decidedly “grey” tones. But…why? How did Barnes get from point A to point B. Barnes, thus far, has little development or introspective. He was presented as a man who believes in Justice and what is Right (which is fine) but nothing more than that. Then suddenly he’s telling Gordon to do whatever he needs?
This is what Gotham does all the time. They leave the character development in scenes that do not exist and expect us to follow along. It means that I don’t care about the characters because I don’t know them; they become pretty bland and cliche.
Okay, other thoughts:
–Penguin is becoming a cartoon villain. He is supposed to be the King of Gotham, or something, but he hasn’t done anything (has even really left his mansion??). He’s just sitting around, moping and crying and acting like an over the top cartoon villain and isn’t the scary and scarily quiet villain from S1.
–I find Theo boring. I find Tabby cliche. I want Jerome back.
–Ed Nygma is actually fascinating and his arc could really be interesting as we watch his villainy become more and more pronounced; it would fit with the overall “rise of the villains” arc this show has going on instead of focusing on people who are already villains (Penguin and Theo). But the show doesn’t seem to be as compelled by Ed as they are with Theo or Penguin and thus Ed’s scenes are left to small instances. I’m hoping this changes.
–The Brigett and Cat stuff was sad but once again Gotham does away with a villain who could carry an entire arc before we eve get to really know him/her. They did this with Scarecrow, they did it with the Ogre, they did it with Jerome. The show wants to stick to Penguin and Theo, but those two villains aren’t coming across as interesting anymore.
–Donal is so underused.
–I don’t know what the show wants to be in terms of aesthetic and feel: is it gritty and tough, or is it playing with their cartoon/comic past (Butch with his mallet, hanging a man in the background while people talk business)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"October 28, 2015 at 9:22 am #311167PheeParticipantJust finished watching, and DANG EDWARD!!! I’d always figured that Kristen would die at some point, but the way they did it, with Ed professing his love as he was inadvertantly choking her to death, and then how he was holding her afterwards, that was all really rather unsettling and heartbreaking to watch!

He’s my favorite villain on this show. Everyone took to Penguin and RLT is great at it, but I’m really intrigued by Ed and his slow descent into madness and villainy. I wish we’d get more of him or incorporate him into the A plot more.

I was stunned…stunned the way Kristen died. It was brilliant but still troubling…..no wonder Ed became the Riddler we saw he did, I only wonder the breakdown he’s going to have while trying to get rid of her body.

With the body of the last person he killed, didn’t he dissolve the flesh in acid and grind up the bones? And he didn’t mind doing it because it was the body of someone he hated. Now he’s gotta deal with the body of someone he loved. And how’s he gonna explain her disappearance? Lee knew that Kristen was going to Ed’s place for dinner that night because she was there when he invited her. THIS WILL NOT GO WELL.

My main question over Kristen’s death is why didn’t she make any indication that she couldn’t breathe? Ed had one hand on her throat and one over her mouth leaving BOTH her hands free. If she struggled a bit, it would make sense, but for her to just stand there and do nothing whilst the life is accidentally being choked out of her seems strange.

Keeper of FelixOctober 28, 2015 at 3:31 pm #311202Ranisha PittsParticipantSo GOTHAM Thoughts.
FireFly and Ed made that episode worth something. I would watch it again for those two alone
Penguin I can accept his unraveling because the man goes crazy for his mother. But he needs to be smarter about this. He was able to become the King of Gotham outwitting some powerful and smart leaders. He really she be able to take on The.
Theo and Tabby are made to be far to powerful then they really are. I did not find it believable that Tabby could over throw Butch even with a heavy mallet. Sorry I just don’t buy it. Theo and Tabby lack luster for me. I think they have the makings to be interesting. However Theo and Tabby don’t have any depth to them. They are just two cruel people who want to rule the world aka Gotham, not be bored, and kill a kid because of a family feud he does not know exist.
ED killing Kristen WOW, I didn’t expect that ending so soon. So in a way it was actually a twist. I figure she may be dead by mid season or finale at least. I guess she wasn’t evil after all.
I LOVED Firefly storyline. She was one of those brief episode characters that touch you and move you. I see that few shows like Grimm or Doctor Who. See her rise out of the ashes to become the FireFly was just well done. And when she caught on flames. I nearly teared up for her.
I say I enjoyed Cat. Her truly be sad about the lost her friends hurt. Once again she lost someone she cared about.
Now things I thoroughly raged hate, too much torture for my taste. I dont not derive pleasure or entertainment at watching people suffer.
We have the politician struggling to breathe as he is being hang.
We have butch who lost his hand and being tortured by Tabitha. (I HATED THAT SO MUCH)
We had Firefly being mentally and physically torture by her “brothers” who squirmed and cowered in fear (that one hurt me personally)
We have the women in chains.
Overall it was just too much in one episode. I don’t watch Game of Thrones for a reason!
Also I did not like Kristen dying. I think it happen far to soon. The same with Jerome. He should have been used more throughout the season and maybe kill him?
One thing tho, we see that FireFly is alive and being tested on. So one can think Jerome is very much alive and being tested on so that when he emerge he would have his signature face and look. And A new hatred for all Authority. I know in one of the origin’s stories. Joker is betrayed by someone he is working for to get that face. So one can say Theo is that person. Therefore if they want to surprise us with a Jerome is not really dead they very much can. Depending on rights and stuff. LOL (Seriously I sure we wont get Jerome and Leto’s version of Joker mixed up. Have you seen LETO’s Joker. Yeah like really. We can have both!)
Overall if wasn’t for Ed and Firefly I would have said meh to this episode. But I think Ed and FireFly and Cat sold this episode for me. Overall I enjoyed. Its one I would watch again.
