3×04 Thoughts
General: This was a very good episode; a nice follow up to last week’s. I am really enjoying Jervis as a villain; he’s a good replacement for Jerome and much improved over Strange and Galavan.
LIKED
–Bullock saying he’d make a great P.I! (Terriers reference!!)
–Alfred’s sass! They’ve made him so much more bearable to watch
— Jervis hooked up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb. Because of course!
–You know…in spite, or maybe because, of how ridiculous Nygma and Penguin, this show actually makes me care about them. The little moment when Nygma is trying to get Penguin to stand on his own, no bribery, was well done. And of course, the moment when Penguine wins and Ed reveals that he took back all the money: I actually felt like Ed really does believe in Penguin and Penguin genuinely wants Ed’s approval. This show has made a lot of missteps over 2 years, but these two are not some of them.
–“I doubt it. Neither one of you has a sense of humor.”
–The stand off between Jervis and Jim was really well done and RIP Alice
–“Give me one reason why I shouldn’t have Butch kill you!” “Well. There are about 30 witnesses.”
MIXED
–It’s Election day already? How…does that work? I mean, that’s literally not how politics works. Penguin declared his intention to run; he sprung Ed; apparently he already campaigned and Gotham votes by the end? But, politics is literally yards and yards of paperwork. It’s entertaining enough for me to remark upon and move on but seriously…this isn’t how this works.
DISLIKED
–I honestly don’t care about this Lee/Jim drama.

So is Tetch now going to go crazy bonkers, like off the handle? He did tell Alice you don’t want to see him if he ever lost her. And now that Alice is dead, will he seek out Strange to try and bring her back? Or will his next storyline be something different? Lee and Gordon I care about…but it’s so painfully obvious that they will end up back together. So I wish we could skip all this drama. Penguin and Nygma are great…fastest election I’ve ever seen though. What on Earth does The Court of Owls want with clone Bruce. Was Strange making him for them specifically? And no poison ivy, no Strange, no Fish, no Valerie????

Nygmobblepot!
That is all!
October 18, 2016 at 10:48 pm #328951RumplesGirlKeymaster3×05 Thoughts!
GENERAL: This episode wasn’t as good as the past two weeks and I blame that largely on keeping the Mad Hatter out of the picture for most of the episode. He’s a fun watch, like Jerome of S2. However, the pace didn’t exactly slow down through most of Nygma and Oswald’s interactions which always have a zany overtone.
LIKED
–The queer subtext that is Nygmoblepott. I don’t feel baited and it doesn’t feel token or cheap. Maybe because Ed so clearly does believe in Oswald and because Oswald really does depend on and respect Ed…? I mean the final scene at the end felt like something out of a rom-com! But seriously, after the disservice to Penguin last year it’s nice to have him with a story and partner that compliment him.
–I *love* Ed Nygma; I’m glad the show is giving him a story that lets his ego shine.
–“Was insane; I have a certificate”
–“Your zipper’s down.”
–Mulan and Jim’s chemistry is a welcome relief to any sort of Jim and Lee drama that I find exhausting and predictable.
–The fight at the party was well done.
MIXED
–I often don’t care about Baby!Batman because I think he’s too involved in a story that’s supposed to be *pre* Batman but there’s something sweet and almost nostalgic about Jim and Bruce working together.
–Barbara is fascinating! But can we please ditch Tabitha already?
–Villains who speak in rhyming couplets really are the worst.
DISLIKED
–Butch being in charge of the Red Hood gang. I think I could care if I cared about Butch but he’s always felt so lacking in the character department. He’s a flunky looking for a boss to follow.
–Everything that is Ivy’s storyline. My god–what is the point?! And why am I supposed to care?
–Speaking of pointless storylines…I also don’t care about whatever is happening to Barnes.

I think he’s turning into Solomon Grundy.

Now that I can get behind.
October 25, 2016 at 1:10 am #329242Jiminy’s JournalParticipantPro: Nygmobblepot is canon (from Oswald).
Con: Kris Kringle Clone shows up at the last minute.
I hope Val doesn’t die, and I think Olga is going to end up being Olga, Queen of the Cossacks. Let’s introduce Egghead, already!
October 25, 2016 at 1:20 pm #329260thedarkonedearieParticipantThis episode was amazing. I did not see the whole Penguin actually being in love with Nygma storyline happening. Very interesting. And the guy that plays the mad hatter was unreal this episode. This was my favorite this season hands down.
October 25, 2016 at 2:25 pm #329269RumplesGirlKeymasterI’m the last one to post this week, huh?
Well here go!
3×06 Thoughts!
GENERAL: FANTASTIC. This episode was non-stop and phenomenal. I have so many “likes” (and I apologize that most of them are Ed Nygma related and/or quotes–#SorryNotSorry). S3 is shaping up to be the best Gotham season yet.
LIKED
–Can we please keep the Mad Hatter??? Seriously, he’s SO GOOD.
–Nygmobblepot. OMG. I had the biggest smile on my face during Penguin’s one sided conversation with Olga about telling Ed how he feels. I sincerely doubt the show had Nygmobblepot in mind two years ago but those two just POP on screen. They’re so crazy and insanely watchable that you can’t help but root for them.
–Albino telling riddles = White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. (So Jim is Alice? Going to a Tea Party? My god that’s nuts. I love it)
–Nygma is such a great chief of staff that he gives Penguin’s assistant paperwork AND a bomb to deliver.
–“This covers your duties as Mayor. And this covers your duties as Kingpin of the Underworld.”
–“Great. I love children.” *hits self with paper*
–“…unnecessary”
–“Aubrey James is illiterate! It’s well documented.”
–“I continue to be in awe of you, Oswald.” Oh help. I’m falling hard here, guys.
–The *entire* tea party scene! I think I stopped breathing momentarily.
–Jim knew Jervis would shoot Mulan if he said Lee, right? Hence why Jim said “kill Lee.”
–“I love you!” TO AN EMPTY CHAIR.
MIXED
–I’m willing to wait and see what happens with Barnes because right now I’m really don’t care; there are far more interesting storylines.
–I wish the show had spent just a little more time with Jim and Mulan before getting to the “Sophie’s Choice” aspect. It would have raised the emotional stakes quite a bit if Jim and Mulan had more time together.
–“Isabella.” On the one hand, I liked Ms Kringle so to have someone who might resemble her back on the show is delightful. On the other hand, NYGMOBBLEPOT.
DISLIKED
–In spite of all the good (and there was a lot of good!) I wish the show could figure out what to do with Harvey Bullock; his storyline is non-existent.
