which would mean Gotham returning in late April.
ARG!!!!! That’s torture. (wow, I’m saying this about Gotham)
They’ll probably go and break my heart in January and then I’ll have to wait for resolution until April.
(also, my god that’s an odd schedule)

Yeah, I’ve never heard of a show airing a winter finale at the end of January before, and then having a hiatus until April. Normally finales that air in January are the shows that aren’t sticking around for the Spring.

GENERAL: #SorryNotSorry that 99.9% of my likes are Nygmobblepot. But, on a serious note, this episode continues the strong trend of S3. While not as good as the Mad Hatter arc, I found that Barnes transforming was more riveting than I thought it would be. It makes total sense that Barnes’s deep (almost crazy) obsession with Justice and Truth manifests in a need to rage against criminals and punish them, even if it’s outside the law.
LIKED
–“You’re just the guy who chops up the bodies and dumps them into a vat of acid?”
–“If we had a big to-do every time you came back to the GCPD, we’d never catch any bad guys.”
–I was already sort of convinced that Isabella was a plant from someone to hurt either Ed or Oswald but the fact that Isabella is slowly turning into Miss Kringle confirms it. #Nygmobblepot forever (I’m falling hard here, guys)
–Also, it’s pretty clear that Ed doesn’t actually love Isabella but loves the memory of Kristen, the last time in his life when he was…”normal” or at least before he became Young!Riddler (#Nygmobblepot!)
–“She’s in there isn’t she? She’s inside of you!” *waves frantically* Let’s keep the Mad Hatter forever, kay?
–“Oswald?” “Yes?” “You’re smiling!” (#Nygmobblepot, guys. #Nygmobblepot). Oswald was *everything* in this scene.
–“You love him too.” (See, even Fake!Kristen sees that #Nygmobblepot is real)
–#Nygmobblepot hug!
–Guys, I don’t even care that Oswald killed Isabella. Actually I sort of cheered (cause I’m a horrible person/shipper). Ed can absolutely cry on Oswald’s shoulder. (#Nygmobblepot!)
MIXED
–Lee’s hair was trying to REACH HEAVEN at her party; however, Morena looks incredible in red.
–Judge…BamBam? Did I hear that right? Is he married to Pebbles?!
–“Justice served!” Oof. That’s a corny one.
DISLIKED
–I’ve mentioned this before but often times Gotham has a nasty habit of not letting things stay subtextual and letting the audience infer what’s going on. They constantly have to take what is clearly being shown and give the character some cringe-y dialogue to explain what I’m seeing. Such is the case of the final moments of the cold open when Barnes begins to talk about “it getting stronger” and how he “can’t fight it.” Yes, I can see that clearly from the manic way you’re twitching and acting. Don’t make it text!
–I hate love triangles and this Jim/Lee/Mario one is super boring because it’s painfully obvious how it will end. At least the Lee/Jim/Mulan triangle had spunky and fun Mulan.
Concern: next week looks full of Baby!Batman, Baby!Catwoman and Teenage!Ivy. This does not excite me.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 8, 2016 at 11:32 am #330057RumplesGirlKeymasterWe don’t do a whole lot with ratings for Gotham, but since we’re all enjoying S3 so much, I thought I’d check in.
It’s good news; Gotham is staying mostly steady, ranging between a 1.2-.9. The (.9) was last week (a lot like OUAT, actually) and then rebounded to a 1.2 this week. Gotham’s average this season is 1.1 which is just fine for FOX. Given the Syndication Gods + Fox’s sad state of affairs with other drama, Gotham is a lock for S4!
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"November 9, 2016 at 3:25 pm #330075thedarkonedearieParticipantI actually wasn’t as thrilled with this episode. It was predictable in so many way and utterly ridiculous. Barnes freaking out and finally killing people..predictable. Ed choosing Isabella and Penguin killing her…predictable. It also makes me not want to root for Nygmobblepot. There’s some potential going forward still but I can’t help but think this is just an easy way to kill Barnes off the show. And it’s not like he’s turning into some cool batman villain. He’s the executioner. Whoopee….Although him effectively chucking the surgeon through a bathroom wall was pretty great to see.

Ahhh. I freely admit that the Nygmobblepot ship is probably never going to really sail and it’s about two horrible people doing horrible things. I didn’t expect a redemptive love story so I guess that’s why I’m okay with this ship being my current dark!guilty pleasure. But I also think it’s one of the best developed and most organic relationships on the show. If they weren’t so clearly villains then this could be a redemptive love story because Ed and Oswald make *total* sense together based on personalities and quirks and what they need from each other. (falling hard here, guys. not kidding)
Going along with your predictable theme: unless the writers *really* pull of a big twist (which, as much as I’m enjoying Gotham this year, it doesn’t erase the…bad…of the first two years) the ending to Nygmobblepot is pretty predictable. Ed will learn that Oswald killed Isabella and it will drive a gulf between then so that they never work together again, though out of affection and fond memories they’ll never seek to kill each other. I’ll decide how I feel about this when we cross that bridge.

Totally going to happen.

GENERAL: Ehhhhhhhh. Not feeling this episode at all. Yes, there’s some good Nygmobblepot stuff (which I’ll always enjoy) but like @thedarkonedearie and I talked about above, it’s marching toward a predictable end. The Barnes storyline is fine but it’s nothing to write home about–and Barnes’s dialogue is clunky and the acting is the definition of scene chewing. And, my god, Ivy is not a thing I need. Ever.
We need the Mad Hatter back.
LIKED
–Ed and Oswald have breakfast together because they are basically married. #Nygmobblepot
–Ed hugged Oswald (usually it’s the other way round) (I die) #Nygmobblepot!
–“She ate all my food. It’s her.” LOL
–“You put me in your painting…” #Nygmobblepot
MIXED
–Barnes’s arc of “being the law” fits with his character but *man* the dialogue of his opening exposition is clunky and awkward.
–Sooo is Baby!BatCat not a thing????
DISLIKED
–I hate–hate–everything about Ivy’s storyline. I’m so glad the writers felt the need age up a totally peripheral character only for her to become a sexual object instead of letting her age and develop organically. *sarcasm*
–Nope, sorry. My Ivy rant isn’t over yet. Why is this even necessary? She was only in a small handful of episodes in the past two seasons; she made little to no emotional impact as a character except as “canon mandated.” This is…tedious and repugnant. It sours what is, overall, a really great season.
–I thought I was done ranting about Ivy….apparently not. So they aged up her body but not her mind because everything she says and does demonstrates this. So she has the mentality and maturity of a 14 yr old but the body of a 20+. A body she’s using, freely, to seduce and rob men but without the cognitive ability to understand what she’s doing.
–“When you’re dressed like this, guys just come up to you and give you stuff!”
–Drink every time Barnes says “I am the law!”
–Gotham, I get it! Jim and Lee still love each other even though they’ve both claim to have moved on. How about you move on and end the triangle and just put them back together already.

Yeah I love the villain Poison Ivy, but not here. I agree with everything you said. I actually was looking forward to seeing how Gotham would slowly turn her into the villain, like they did with Ed or Oswald. Show us how or why she got into plants. When she realized using her looks was her best weapon. But nope. We get a bullcrap age jump bc of some random guy’s aging powers and now have a 14 year old trapped in a slutty late twenties body. This messes up batman canon so much too I feel like. So is Ivy always going to be like 15 years more immature than her body suggests when Batman comes along? At this point, I’d be happy if they found a loophole to change her back to her kid self and treat all this just as a taste of what the character is capable of when she gets older.
I will say I initially thought ED would know it was Penguin who killed Isabella but then quickly realized they were going with the Butch route, which to me, makes Ed look stupid. Nygmobblepot unfortunately will never take off the ground because of this lie. I can see it now. Ed finally starts liking Oswald and then shortly after, he finds out Oswald was the one who killed Isabella, not Butch. And then that will be the end of the ship.
And yep, the Barnes thing was so obvious. Although I did expect him to die here. I’m not sure what use he is going forward. The only thing I’m hoping for is to have someone break Tetch out of jail and then have Tetch use Barnes as his lackey to get back at Jim. Keeping Barnes alive has to mean he’s going to be involved with Tetch and that the Mad Hatter is not done. Either that or Lucius finds a cure quickly and because Barnes was sick, he gets off or something. But I’m hoping for the former.
I liked the confusion between Selina and Bruce as to whether they were officially dating or not. That was pretty cute.
So who are these arrow shooting thugs looking for that key? And what does the key open? Any theories? Is this the Court of Owls? Anybody getting a deadshot vibe here?

I think it’s going to be a very literal key to the Court.
