That last episode was everything!!!!
Bruce & Jerome were just the ultimate highlight, I mean…Gotham Showrunners are actually setting up the stage for the twenty-thirty year long war between Batman & Joker, and it was just so much irony, even with Bruce being hesitant and ultimately choosing not to kill Jerome, much like Batman will do for Joker in the future. I thought they set the stage for the Batman/Catwoman dynamic with Bruce and Selina in the last episode, but this episode really just previewed the iconic Batman & Joker Feud.
Nygmapot….I really shouldn’t feel so sorry for Penguin, but I just can’t help it! Yes, he killed Isabella, yes we should hate him for it, but….God, I’m a horrible person! My heart shattered during their last scene, and I’m hoping somehow Penguin survives being shot…maybe Fish will come back and save him, I don’t know, but save Penguin!
Jim & Leslie…geez, you know what…it’s time for Jim to grow a pair, sit Leslie down somewhere and just tell her how he feels and why he did what he did. Clearly she still holds some feelings for him, and if he “lays down the law” one good time…I’m 100% sure they will be alright.
I don’t know what to think of this Butch, Tabitha, & Barbra angle, but it’s working.
Only little downslide was there was no Selina, but that’s alright. My only thing with Selina right now is, I think it’s time to truly set her up to be the Catwoman we know she’s going to be, even if she has to start off as Catgirl for now. And I’m really glad they’re finally setting Bruce up for his Batman route!

See, I think it’s perfectly fine to not hate Oswald for this. He’s been fleshed out to such a degree that even when I don’t like his actions–murdering someone–I get why he’s doing it. That’s how you create complex and nuanced characters. Of course he was going to murder Isabella; Fish’s rejection of him, his mother’s death, his father’s death….the only thing he had left was Edward. He’s a selfish man, a fact he stumbled into in the finale. He was clinging to the last person who cared about him because he’s lost *so much.* Murdering Isabella to keep Ed by his side makes absolute sense from a character standpoint. And not to be flippant but Isabella was about as fleshed out as a rock; kinky librarian is really all she amounted to.

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 13, 2017 at 8:35 am #335994Jiminy’s JournalParticipantI find it odd that this promo focuses so much on Bruce (and his journey to becoming Batman) but uses a shot of Lincoln at the end.
April 18, 2017 at 9:50 pm #336448Jiminy’s JournalParticipantThis trailer is giving me strong series finale vibes (even though I’m pretty sure they’ve already been renewed).
Not too thrilled with Selina getting her Batman Returns origin. She kind of already was Catwoman; I see no reason to do the whole death thing (Is Indian Hill going to be involved?).
Also, did we catch our first glimpse of Alexander Siddig as Ra’s?
April 20, 2017 at 11:56 am #336780RumplesGirlKeymasterDon’t know how I missed that trailer. It really looks cool and I like the “Heroes Rise” idea.

Yeah that part worries me a bit. The show doesn’t have a strong track record when it comes to teens-into-their-adults-selves. Like Poison Ivy last year. Bruce is already Batman in some ways, though I did enjoy him a lot more this past arc than I have in the past. Also, I’m genuinely excited for this upcoming storyline about his destiny.
Still 100% here for Nygma, of course.

Honestly, I just randomly saw it on YouTube.

“How The Riddler Got His Name”
General: If this show doesn’t want me to ship Nygmobblepot, they are epically failing.
LIKED
–I deeply love Edward Nygma and the exploration of his identity. He’s trying so hard to figure out who he is, to find someone to answer his riddle (the most basic riddle there is: “who am I?”) but he can’t find his perfect match because of course it’s Oswald. Of course it’s the guy he shot and pushed into a river. It’s exactly what Oswald said, “you need me as much as I need you.”
–Can we please just take a moment and appreciate Cory Michael Smith? He was so good here.
–“You are the only person I know who frets about his hallucination making a mess.” Seriously, Ed’s bringing on hallucinations of Oswald because he misses him and needs him that much. I don’t care if he says he doesn’t love Os. He does. He does.
–LOL at the (maybe unintentional) visual of Frank telling Jim about the CoO while Jim’s holding a rifle. Like, maybe you pick a better time? Like when he’s not holding a deadly weapon?
–“Killing you killed a part of me.”
–Lucius Fox finally got to play a bigger part and it turns out…he’s charming and delightful!
–Ed in that green suit, tho!
–“I don’t think you grasp how this works: you have to give MY answer.” I laughed so hard.
–“My search for a teacher or an enemy was just me trying to hold on to him a bit longer.”
–“I’m the Riddler!” #HereForNygma
MIXED
–Jim’s uncle seems rather shoe-horned in, no?
–Baby!BatCat having all manner of Baby!BatCat angst.
DISLIKED
–What the heck is this fig/grape/strawberry guy thing? There’s silly and there’s that. Ed’s clues were all great except this bizarro thing.
–I love Nygmobblepot but….that signing/dream thing with Oswald was…weird. Even for Gotham.
–“Powerful knock out drug.” Yes, I can see that. Your visual cues are text enough.
–Things I never ever need in my life: Adult Ivy. (Even if she did save Oswald)

“These Delicate and Dark Obsessions”
GENERAL : Ugh. Okay, I didn’t like this one nearly as much as last week’s episode. There are two different storylines going on with Gotham: The CoO and Penguin/Nygma and one far outstrips the other. Hint: It’s not the CoO one.
LIKED
–“What’s with all the plants?” “They are my friends.” “Your friends? Wonderful.”
–Barbara taking money from cowering men while “Love Hurts” plays softly in the background.
–“A tiny freak who used to hold an umbrella.” I like that so much of Oswald’s story is about him trying to compensate for what he once was. If he’s the King of Gotham than no one can ever make him their umbrella boy ever again.
–“If you were to become a symbol against fear then Gotham could be reborn.” As much as I don’t like the execution of Baby!Batman’s mystical journey this line is really good. It shows that it’s not really Batman himself but he represents that’s important.
MIXED
–Oswald simply cannot with Poison Ivy which is totally sympathetic because, my god, she grates. But we did get quite a few funny lines.
–Gabe double crossing Oswald is tedious but, in regards to Oswald, it’s a nice through-line that he places loyalty in people and doesn’t question how they might betray him. He believed that Ed could never hurt him because of their friendship and, well, look how that turned out.
–The mystical journey of Baby!Batman is sooooo cliche and overwrought. It’s full of all the trappings of other Young White Boy Must Become A Hero tales, including cultural appropriation of making the Young White Boy’s zen master an old white man who speaks in riddles and uses eastern mysticism. Basically, it’s the same criticisms hurled at Marvel’s Iron Fist.
DISLIKED
–The CoO are making a weapon to cleanse Gotham so that it can start over. So, the writers basically watched Arrow S1?
–*Insert all the criticism I’ve said about Adult Poison Ivy before*
–The CoO have cleansed the city of Gotham twice before? And no one knows about this or figured anything out? Well that seems highly unrealistic.
–Gabe and his crew are using a Polaroid to snap a picture of Penguin. It’s quaint and slightly insane.
–RIP Frank, I guess.
–Oh geez. They really did do a slow-mo walk to a car with Jim Gordon. Please, repeat after me: Jim is never going to be compromised. They’ve been teasing with the idea of Jim’s moral ambiguity for three years and it’s frankly pretty old. He never goes that route. That’s not his story. He stays a good guy, a white knight.
–What exactly is Lee’s point on this show anymore?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 4, 2017 at 1:01 pm #337759Jiminy’s JournalParticipantHere’s one thing I’ve noticed about Maggie Geha’s portrayal: She acts younger than Clare Foley. Which only adds to the creepiness of aging her up. They make her look older but act younger.
–The CoO have cleansed the city of Gotham twice before? And no one knows about this or figured anything out? Well that seems highly unrealistic.
Wasn’t there some mention about two historical fires back when Oswald was running for mayor?
