Gotham has just been renewed for a 4th Season!
Yes! I never doubted it would, but good to officially hear.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"3×17 “The Primal Riddle” (man it took me long enough to sit down and watch this one….)
GENERAL
There are basically three stories this week and they range in terms of quality: Riddler/Penguin (the very good); Baby!Batman/Clone!Baby!Batman (the okay); The Court of Owls/Jim Gordon (the dull).
LIKED
–“This is the one riddle that got away!” #HereForNygma
–CMS looks like he’s having the time of his life playing 100% looney-tunes Riddler; I love it.
–“There’s nothing wrong with being a freak. I’m a freak; Penguin’s a freak.” In its own way, this is really sweet moment between three villains.
–The heart to heart between Nygma and Jim was actually quite good. I like that Nygma’s transition to the Riddler isn’t just about him being crazy; it’s about betrayal and being treated as “different” and a freak by those he tried to friend. It goes hand in hand with what Ivy told Bridgette, “we’re like a family.”
–“There’s a question mark on your face.” “You can sleep in the freezer.”
MIXED
–Ed went to all the trouble of stamping tiny pills with the Riddler insignia. I mean, on the one hand that’s some serious commitment. On the other…LOL riiiiiiight.
–Did…Clone!Baby!Batman just push Baby!Catwoman out of a window…man, that escalated quickly.
DISLIKED
–The opening segment of Penguin and Ivy trucking through some crazy snowy never before seen mountain—Iron Fist called, they want their scenery back…? (No seriously, are they on the way to Kunlun-lite?)
–Can we please just get rid of Lee or send her off to NBC already? Man do I find her annoying with this whole “take down Jim Gordon” shtick.

GENERAL: Gotham needs to cut its loose and uninteresting ends like Barnes and the CoO. Honestly, if this show just became the Penguin and Riddler Show I don’t think many people would complain. Jim and Baby!Batman can flit in and out but the real fun and meat of this story rests with the two villains.
LIKED
–Bring back Tetch full time!
–Going with my general comment above, the dynamic between Jim and Penguin is interesting and I don’t mind moments like this when the “good guy” gets drawn in by compelling villain because of their shared history. Penguin and Jim have been in each other’s orbit for awhile and getting to play that out is usually rewarding.
–Oh thank god. Please tell me next week is a return of Penguin and Nygma.
MIXED
–“You’ve done it. You’ve weaponized the virus.” Yes, I can see that Gotham. Stop actually telling me what I can see! However, this opens the doors for a few cool storylines and I hope they follow through.
–I almost cannot roll my eyes hard enough at the Baby!Batman and horribly cliche Zen Master. Tonight we took a walk down the familiar path of venturing into the hazy past, having some sort of symbolic token that represents everything standing in the protagonists way, and a teacher spouting something foreboding and secretive out of earshot. Honestly, “I’ve been waiting for this a long time, Bruce. Together we will make Gotham pay” is all manner of silly with the reveal that the Zen Master is actually part of the CoO. Like, of course. Of course.
DISLIKED
–We desperately need some backstory on the individuals inside the CoO. I get that they as a collective whole want to “cleanse” Gotham but what’s in it for each person? How did they get into the CoO? What do they personally have to gain from all this?
–“This isn’t about Mario!” Yes, yes it is Lee. Your entire story for a year now has been about Mario and Jim and has turned you into a hysterical crazy woman. If the show were building to turning Lee into a comic book character, that’s one thing because that’s an okay origin story. But I get the feeling the writers are just biding their time with Lee until the actress leaves (is she leaving? Did her show get picked up?)
–Good lord. Of course there’s a crying child on the bank floor that Jim has to get to safety before he can reach the bomb in time.
–How did Ivy get all those huge plants into the hospital room? No nurse would allow that.
–I almost feel bad for Ivy that both of her rescued friends–Penguin and Baby!Catwoman–wake up and want nothing to do with her, preferring instead to go on a murder spree.

I thought he was in the finale? It’ll be interesting to see the differences in story and portrayal between this version and Arrow’s version.

So far, I’ve really enjoyed the return. Mainly bc I loved Batman Begins and that’s basically what this is, plus the riddler haha. The monk guy is creeeepy. Is he Ra’s? Love Nygma. Love the Oswald/Ivy teamup. Hopefully I’ll be all caught up tomorrow!
