“Pretty Hate Machine”
LIKED
–“We hit every spot on that crystal owl and all we got were dead people wearing owl masks!” That line, tho.
–I loooooove Oswald’s outfit this episode. Might be my favorite one.
–Bruce is “some sort of weird zombie zealot.”
–Ah, so the Zen Master works for Bashir al Ghul. (totally gonna call him that now. Thanks @Jiminy). At least that answers that question. However, there are some strong whiffs of Arrow S3 here with Ra’s wanting to convert Bruce/Ollie into a dark knight as part of destiny (actually there are Arrow whiffs every where this season. The CoO’s goal is essentially the Queen/Merlyn Undertaking)
–“You got no idea how strong that boy is.” <3 Alfred
–Well hey Fish Mooney!
–“This is quite a gathering. You have to love Gotham, people always pointing guns at each other.” #HowToSumUpAShowInTwoSentences
MIXED
–Props to @thedarkonedearie for calling the show’s route with Lee. However, I’m not sure I like it. Yeah, she’s more interesting infected by Alice Tetch’s blood and the actress finally seems to be having some fun but there’s something uncomfortable about the way the show keeps developing their female characters which is to villainize them. And both turns to villainy comes after heartbreak which gets a bit of a side eye from me.
DISLIKED
–Uh, well, RIP the CoO? They were really under developed in terms of individuality. Like who were *any* of these people? I know the collective whole is more important than the individuals but are they titans of industry? Political figures? Celebrities? Who are any of these other important families of Gotham?

Or Batman Begins.

Or kill them (Kristen Kringle, Gertrude Capulput, Liza, Sarah Essen, Ethel Peabody). Or Chuck Cunningham them (Renee Montoya, Silver St. Fox). Or creepily age them up, while dumbing them down (Ivy Pepper). I do realize a listed characters that are already villains.
Selina and Fish are pretty much the best-handled female characters on this show, at this point. One an anti-hero, one a straight-up villain.
(Also, is it just me, or are all their bisexual characters villains?)
May 30, 2017 at 9:53 pm #339359RumplesGirlKeymasterOr Batman Begins
I actually totally missed that movie. I caught the Dark Knight but somehow never got around to seeing Batman Begins. Though, I guess that the BB/Arrow connection makes sense. When Arrow began, Berlanti et. al wanted it to be BB-esque.

I actually think Batman Begins is better. Heath Ledger’s performance aside. Gotta watch it.
Are they turning Lee into Harley Quinn or just a bad guy? I heard Harley might be showing up in the finale. While I enjoy Morena Baccarin, I honestly don’t think she has the chops to pull off that character. The problem I have is that when they cast these women in these roles, it was for a good character, not a villain. Barbara worked out well. They got lucky that Erin Richards was able to pull off a juicy villain. But I just don’t see Morena being able to do that.
I liked seeing Fish Mooney again.
Isn’t it too early for Bruce to learn how to fight and become batman from Rha’s? He’s still way too young.
May 31, 2017 at 9:33 am #339365thedarkonedearieParticipantSide note: I hate the idea of being buried alive and suffocating. So props for Lee for doing the most terrifying thing on the show I have seen to date. It’s why I am like the only one who enjoyed the Nicki and Paulo episode of Lost.
May 31, 2017 at 1:45 pm #339369WickedRegalParticipantSo far, agreed with everything said above.
Side Notes:
Fascinating how Lee is more interesting now, than that whiny version of her we’ve had for the last several weeks. I do think however, if they were going the villain route, they should’ve really build up a proper villain storyline for Lee before pushing her in that direction. Morena definetly seems like she’s having more fun though!
FISH IS BACK!!!
Seeing Mama Fish return and save her son, but not son, Penguin was the highlight! Like the show said, Jada knows how to make an entrance and an exit!

I think they’re doing Harley Quinn. There was a spoiler a few months back that Gotham would introduce Harley toward the end of the season but I’ve seen no one except Lee to fit that bill.

If that’s true, I just noticed one of the most obvious potential puns: HarLEE Quinn. Though I was hoping they’d actually have Harley Quinn be Harleen Quinzel, the name of the original character from the animated series and comics. I guess they’d be merging the two together, which I guess makes sense, since both characters were doctors who worked at Arkham Asylum. However, I’ve also seen speculation that Barbara might also be Harley, but maybe Barbara is a red herring that they want us to think about?

At this point I think Barbara is her own entity and the writers aren’t trying to do anything but let the character and Erin Richards have fun.

That is the sense I’m getting too. Which is too bad bc honestly her character is more like Harley Quinn. A little crazy, violent, unique, loud, boisterous. Lee’s is not. She just took the virus which basically just made Barnes a roided out lunatic. He was flat bc his character was only doing what he was doing bc of the virus. To me, that takes away from the “villain.” If Lee is just an angry overpowering jerk now, I just don’t see how that translates to Harley Quinn.
