Tonight the Witch in the Tower revealed herself to be Mother Gothel! How did she become trapped in that tower? What did you think of her time with Hook and being Alice’s mother? Also, what is she capable of now that she’s free in the world.

Hook and her time together was rather odd and convenient. So she just magically got pregnant after a one night stand and then gave birth to a full term little girl after Hook fell asleep? Wow that is crazy and rather stupid. Poor Alice who was not only abandoned by her mother but conceived only so she could be used for her mother’s freedom. Gothel may give the other bad mothers (Cora, Milah, Victoria, Black Fairy) on OUAT a run for their money. I think Gotehl will be the ultimate big bad. Rumple seems afraid of what she can do, Victoria(maybe she is Rupunzel?) is definitely not happy that she is free, and even Regina is now really worried.

How did Rapunzel over power here, I guess is the real question. Gothel is certainly powerful.

Because of a magical flower that grows babies apparently? LOL

November 18, 2017 at 2:54 pm #344705TheWatcherParticipantI loved her dress. I wish I could have seen more of it but her hair was in the way.
But im guessing its like this:
Gothel is a witch who has an affinity for plant magic. She has a very powerful and rare flower that can do something spectacular and powerful but it was stolen and used to concieve rapunzel (just like in the movie). So se kidnaps and raises Rapunzel in the tower to harness the powe from her hair.
But Rapunzel somehow tricks her and manages to escape.
So Rapunzel goes on to become Tremaine and has TWO daughters born with magic. Anastasia dies and Drizella wants to resurrect her not out of love but to take the power that she has within her which comes from the magic flower.
Drizella and Gothel want the exact same thing as Tremaine but for different reasons. They all want Ana resurrected but Tremaine wants it out of love, Gothel and Drizz want it out of a lust for power.

I feel like we were all assuming (mostly me) that because Wish-Hook was looking for his daughter in the magical world the missing girl Rogers is looking for in Seattle is his daughter but it would also make sense that the curse would put a twist on his quest and make his mind think he’s looking for Eloise Gardener (the Witch’s cursed name) instead of Tilly (Alice’s cursed name). Also this isn’t Gothel related but the fact that they showed the Witch speed up her pregnancy of Alice makes me feel like it could be what also happened to Lucy (since everyone keeps scratching their heads at the timeline that could be a theory?)
November 23, 2017 at 8:32 am #344821StahlopParticipantI’m new to the forums so i don’t know if i’m doing this right…
I feel like we were all assuming (mostly me) that because Wish-Hook was looking for his daughter in the magical world the missing girl Rogers is looking for in Seattle is his daughter but it would also make sense that the curse would put a twist on his quest and make his mind think he’s looking for Eloise Gardener (the Witch’s cursed name) instead of Tilly (Alice’s cursed name). Anyone else notice that the name of the missing girl had the surname Gardner (which makes sense for Gothel as she has plant magic), and that Tilly’s name literally is about tilling (another gardening reference)?November 24, 2017 at 7:54 pm #344826PheeParticipantAfter the developments in this ep, I’m more inclined to believe the speculation that Victoria is an adult RealRapunzel. If RealRapunzel trapped Gothel in the Tower, then it would make sense if she had her trapped again in present day, and was fearful of her being set free. And there was that line that Victoria had about Gothel never seeing the light of day again or something, which feels like it could be a line that we see come back at some point when there’s a flashback to Gothel locking RealRapunzel away.
It makes me want to flip all the tables that they’re repeating the rape by deception plot point. With any luck they’ve at least learned that a person who does such a thing shouldn’t get a redemption arc where the people involved end up being cool with what they did? #hope
Just keep Gothel evil, she works as a villain because she’s using people to achieve her own ends, (whatever that may be).

Sadly, I think your hope is misplaced. These are the same writers who gave Zelena a “redemption arc” through motherhood after she raped Robin Hood. They then wrote Regina as not only forgiving Zelena but also befriending and defending her half-sister. And now Zelena is getting to return in S7 despite the actress being demoted from a series regular.
