Was trying to think that the shards of Zelena *poofing* reminded me of. Zombie Maleficent.
I think she’s dead but she created a kind of fail-safe that is triggered upon her death. Charming commented before that she is quite the strategist.
So I think this is her backup plan, which is a kind of gamble – if she dies, the time travel spell will be activated and drag somebody into the portal. This will result in the past being changed albeit randomly. However, Zelena has nothing to lose as she is already dead. She just needs to gamble that the person who travels back may change something and set off a chain of events so that Zelena doesn’t die in the new altered timeline.

And annoyed for Belle’s sake. Why did he have to fake her out? She would’ve understood if he wanted to keep his dagger.
I think Rumple meant every word he said to her. He didn’t have to go through the whole routine of “I’m giving you the dagger because I trust you” when she was already giving him the dagger. Killing Zelena was that last job he had to do. After killing Zelena, he probably went straight back home, swapped the fake dagger back for the real one and settled back down in bed with Belle who was probably asleep. Also since Rumple made the “deal” with Bae to avenge him, I think in Rumple’s mind he had to fulfil that deal since he’d already broken one deal with Bae (letting him go through the portal alone) so Rumple didn’t want to break another. I do hope Belle finds out and gives him what for because he was being deceitful to her, although he didn’t actually promise not to kill Zelena. But I hope the writers don’t use it as an excuse to separate RumBelle yet again.
I think the pendant did what it did because it’s “host” was now truly dead (though Rumple has made it look like Zelena’s escaped). The pendant is releasing it’s magic to the last spell Zelena did.
All magic comes with a price!

The way that Rumple killed Zelena in reality is the way Rumple killed Henry in his nightmare in “Lacey” (S2 E19). Rumple turned Henry into porcelain and then smashed him to pieces.
Now Rumple has gone and killed Zelena in the same manner foretold in his dream.

Yeah I remembered that from Rumple’s dream, but I mean how the crumbs of Zelena poofed and wafted away, reminded me of how Maleficent was re-forming into that whatever thing from being dust when Hook was fighting her. Like maybe the pendant keeps Zelena “alive” in a different form, like Regina’s spell did for Maleficent.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence they showed use the Dorothy story just now. They want us to link Zelena’s faked death to the recent one, it’s the exact same animation and sound effect.
Also in the flashback Zelena’s pendant is still white, but in SB it’s green. Glinda said it would help her get stronger, maybe by now there’s enough magic in it to protect her from getting killed even though she doesn’t wear it.
