I wonder if Nova and Grumpy can be together now because technically they are both human and not a fairy and a dwarf.

Grumpy seems to be quite eager to go back to the Fairy Tale Lands. If they rekindle the story of Grumpy and Nova though can see some interesting plot to make Grumpy think twice.

Grumpy knows Nova is in Storybrooke since Leroy met her as Astrid. They don’t necessarily neeed to make a big deal of Nova and Grumpy getting back together. Perhaps Grumpy could turn up to one of the parties he attends with the Charmings with Nova as his date and a quick explanation.

Another storyline that might be a casualty of actors and scheduling conflicts. Amy Acker who played Nova probably has another project. I get the feeling the casting team sometimes (like with Rose McGowen or Jorge Garcia) gets on people who just want to work with the show runners or have a history with them as initially a one-time stunt casting thing. If they can then make it into a larger role within the storyline and it works for the actor’s schedule, they go ahead and expand it. If they can’t, then it ends up sort of being a dropped storyline. I hope we can at least get a line of dialogue, but I’m not expecting a scene any time soon 🙁 .

Dialogue would be good, even if it’s something short such as:

Snow: How’s things going with you and Nova?
Grumpy: Great. We’re going out again tonight.

Even if they don’t show the scene of Nova and Grumpy going out, it just lets the audience know that Grumpy and Nova have found each other and that they’re giving their relationship a go.

Maybe, instead of focussing on Wonderland, the spin off should focus on the lesser characters in Storybrooke. Maybe against the backdrop of the main events of Season 2. Or perhaps it could focus on Grumpy and what he and the other dwarves get up to when they’re not with Charming or Snow.

This may be a silly question, and pardon me if it’s been asked and answered before, but when Snow and Grumpy meet in prison he tells her a story about being framed for stealing a diamond he meant to use to propose. We know that he broke things off with Nova before things got to that level (and just returned to work normally after that) so who is this girl he supposedly wanted to marry? And why would he get romantically entangled after walking away from his true love?

Or are we just to assume that he made up the story? He seemed so heartfelt- it’s surprising he’d come up with such a complex lie rather than a “Killed a guy in Wonderland just to watch him die” sort of thing.

I am of the opinion that there is another story to tell, but it’s a matter of finding the right time to tell it. Grumpy, while beloved, is more of a minor character so squeezing another episode of his in, would have to fit with the overall major storyline/characters.

Hopefully you’re right and it’s not just an oversight. We can’t abide oversights.

Now that I look at the transcript, it does stick out as rather odd:

Grumpy: It’s why I’m stuck in this hole. I had it bad. She was beautiful as a fairy. But I lost her. I was desperate to get her back, so I came up with a plan. I worked at the diamond mines. Traded all my wages to the foreman for a diamond to propose. But I got swindled. It was a stolen rock and I took the blame. I’m no thief, but they think I am. Should’ve known better. But I wasn’t thinking clearly – all cause of love. And now here I am – trapped – with no way out.

So that’s what he said in 7;15 am when he met Snow. Why did he say “beautiful as a fairy”…transcript could be wrong, but I guess that implies she isn’t a fairy.

This potential plot hole makes me ..grumpy 😉
