So….Hades and Zelena are true love? Or so Hades thinks. Do you believe it? Should Zelena trust Hades? Is there a future for them? And, most importantly, do you ship it???
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 3, 2016 at 9:16 pm #320767RumplesGirlKeymasterI literally don’t know what to do with this. Here’s the thing; I don’t think you can build a believable romance that I should care about and root for in 20 mins. Especially with two characters who 1) are villains and 2) are not traditionally linked together. You have to show me their feelings instead of inserting a lot of clunky dialogue in which the words “true love” are uttered over and over to tell me that they are true love. In other words, you gotta show instead of tell.
I rolled my eyes a lot of at the Hades and Zelena stuff because why should I care? Zelena is a horrible villain (and that’s what makes her fun) but suddenly she’s got a male love interest and a baby and I’m supposed to feel something other than delight in her snark? It’s wonky. And Hades, who has been a malevolent but charming villain is suddenly a god with man pain and that makes him like every other sad sack on the show. It doesn’t help that their love story was told over the course of twenty minutes and one bike ride. Snow and Charming, Rumple and Belle were built slowly, over the course of seasons. You had to watch Snow and Charming fight to prove their true love. We weren’t just told they were true love; you saw it.
The final scene between the two in present day was kinda powerful but it also falls on deaf ears at a certain point because I don’t know why I should care.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 3, 2016 at 9:26 pm #320771KebParticipantI like them together because the actors are powerful.
I am worried about how they’re taking lines right out of Rumbelle to make it work. Rumbelle initially worked because there WAS time for them to fall for each other.
And True Love means being willing to sacrifice for the other. We’ve seen it everywhere that TLK worked. Zelena never was for Hades, so it’s not True Love (yet). Hades…possibly. I don’t trust him any more than Zelena does.
But giving her a Storybrooke of her own was cute as…well, Hell.

April 3, 2016 at 9:39 pm #320778WickedRegalParticipantI think that it was incredibly rushed for Hades to fall for Zelena in one night, after a ride on the bicycle.
To rationalize it, this is a man who has spent millenniums waging war against love and life, and to suddenly feel an ounce of it, it just overcame him. Hades is someone who loves hard, but I think it initially started out as a lust for the darkness Zelena possessed…..but after the bike ride, it clicked that hey, this is what I’ve seen other mortals do and this is how they fall in love, so I think Hades convinced himself that he was in love with Zelena.
Now when he told her that she will regret denying him, I do think he’s still on that even in present day. I’m convinced that he still loves Zelena somewhat, but also he wants revenge against her. Why else would he bring her baby to the underworld if it’s not to use as leverage against her, to force her to stay with him forever in Hell.

April 3, 2016 at 10:30 pm #320786RumplesGirlKeymasterI wil say this: I liked that Hades isn’t forcing the issue in present day. I like that he’s going to build up trust so that Zelena can see he’s serious. That’s better than him declaring he loves her and she just falling into this waiting arms and letting him handle all that is wrong in her world. It does give me some #hope that they can convince me that these two are true love because of something other than the mandates of the plot.

At least Zelena actually pointed this out and told Hades “but we just met!” I mean, you could tell that she’s seconds away from giving in but at least the writers made her say it first.
