Especially after listening to most recent Once Podcast, this has been going thru my mind? Why was it so easy for Mr. Gold to collect the diamonds directly into the wand? Why couldn’t fairies do the same in fairytale land? Why did they have to rely on the dwarves to mine the diamonds?
Also, Why couldn’t the Blue Fairy create a protective dome much as corrugated for Snow White and Prince Charming?
So I guess fairies are not as powerful as they present themselves to be. They do not seem to be more powerful then Rumpelstiltskin or Cora. In Storybrooke they can’t wield any magic with out their wands or fairy dust.

If so, it’d need to be in a portable form, such as fairy dust. Perhaps all fairies with the ranking of Fairy Godmother had the ability to suck it up into their wand directly from the source, but that doesn’t do much good if non-Fairy Godmothers need a supply of it to work magic.
As for Blue not having put up a protective shield in the same way Cora did, that could be because she didn’t have the ability, or it could be because the curse playing out was all a part of Blue’s own grand design in some way. I’m not willing to rule out the latter.

Perhaps she doesn’t need the magic diamonds at all and and only the “lesser” fairies need the magic of fairy dust. Wouldn’t she have posted some kind of guard there if they were that precious to her? She seemed awfully careless about the whole thing. šAs to the harvesting with wands, Rumple basically absorbed the power of the diamonds. It hink it could have something to do with him being the Dark One. Fairies might need the poweder to put into their wands, the Dark One simply takes what he wants.

She seemed awfully careless about the whole thing. šBut what else could the Blue Fairy have done with the discovery of diamonds? She had no wand, and she can’t wield magic without it as the Dark One can. Even if the dwarves had found a way to mine the diamonds successfully into dust, the fairies would still have needed to acquire magic wands. Yet, the BF is not exactly on good terms with Mr. Gold to be asking for any favors of him like returning that fairy wand.

While the BF has been called the original power, that doesn’t mean she’s the greatest power. She could just be the oldest. She certainly has the power to turn a wooden puppet into a real boy and a grown man into a cricket. But she has her limits, as she told Baelfire she couldn’t remove Rumple’s curse from him. The best she could do was send him somewhere he couldn’t use his power.

Precisely. As the Dark One, Rumple is all but omnipotent. He’s more powerful than the fairies, and therefore can use the wand differently.
