Rumplegoldfan, why do you think Rumple is interested in redeeming Regina? It would be a great story, but I’m not sure what his motivation would be. I don’t know that he is a generally magnanimous person who wants to help a fallen soul. Do you think their pasts are intertwined in ways we don’t know? Would it be atonement for some past sin against her, or some part he played in her becoming evil? Is it because he feels he has to do something big as a penance in order to redeem himself? It is an interesting theory but I’m wondering what you base it on.
I also like your observations about the part children play in characters’ motivations. I always thought LOST was a bit deficient in this area, seriously underestimating what parents will do for their children (case in point—that Jin would choose to die with Sun, and Sun would allow it, leaving their child an orphan to be raised by Sun’s abusive father). OUaT has a more realistic grasp on the parent/child bond, imho. The Regina/Henry/Emma triangle is very complex and will hopefully continue to be so. I will be very disappointed if they fall back on the DNA-donation trumps 10-years-of-raising.
