Have you noticed the SMOKE?

Do you remember that the Evil Queen’s magic smoke was always black?  Then when Regina regained her powers at the beginning of season 2 it was purple.  Also the smoke color for magic in Storybrooke was purple (when Rumple brought magic back at season 1 finale)  Peter Pan’s didn’t have the magic smoke until he cast the new curse and it turn out to be green.  Then this:

However, fast forwarding to now, the green smoke it’s associated with Zelena, yet when Rumple shifts into looking like Regina and then back to Rumple his smoke was green, that threw me off.  Are the smoke associated with the person like a signature or the color symbolizes something else?

I dont think they established the whole magic smoke color for each person thing until S2, really. Rumps magic has been red, purple, and black. It seemed to me that purple was just the color of magic until they tried to make it an individualized thing and gave each user a different color. I think its really just to like pretty and doesn’t actually serve a purpose

Are the smoke associated with the person like a signature or the color symbolizes something else?

Waaaaaaay back in S1 and early S2, someone sat down and wrote out every instance of Smoke on ONCE and who was associated with it and what was going on when it happened.

So far as I can tell, Regina almost always uses PURPLE and Zelena almost always uses GREEN (the latter seems to be a nice call back to OZ and that myth); Rumple uses red, especially if he vanishes. Pan’s smoke was Green but when Regina cast her curse in S1 it was black.

I’m not sure they are specifically associated with one person anymore.

With Regina, only the Evil Queen used black and Regina per se used purple.  I think it have to do with the intention now that I think it through.  I think each color means a certain emotion or motivation.  Green it’s fair to say it’s associated with wickedness as Rumple reappear to Zelena after he fooled her and when Peter Pan recast the Dark Curse, that’s a theory.

Have we seen Pan use magic that had smoke other than with the curse?

I’m watching the second episode of S2. In it, when Regina vanishes from Snow and Charmings wedding, her smoke is black, BUT when she reappears at her castle, her smoke is purple.

I think so or it’s most likely a continuity error.
