Since when does he call her Mom??? That has bugged me from the start. I realize that he is a young boy, and once faced with the possibility of the entire town killing the woman who raised him he realized, “hey, I actually do care about this person”. But I think they should have had him express that a little more instead of jumping right in. It seemed to me a little rushed. If I was Emma and he had said that I would have been like “What?! Are you KIDDING me?!” He should have said something like “Kill her? Wait a minute, she’s evil, but she did raise me…I don’t want her dead Emma.” Am I the only one?

Isn’t that basically what he said? She’s still his mom so he doesn’t want them to kill her?

Actually, no he didn’t. After rewatching the end when he tells her he doesn’t want to see her again, it does seem they explained more at that point. In the beginning however, it just seemed to come out of nowhere. “No! She’s still my mom!”. I just think there should have been maybe a moment of realization for him before screaming that. It seemed to come out of nowhere. He spent an entire season hating her, so I felt like we could have used that moment of “wait a minute…” before he starts screaming and calling her “Mom”.

I wasn’t at all surprised–I think Regina’s final words to him in A Land Without Magic (about how she does love him) did reach him a bit. He doesn’t want to live with her–he doesn’t want to even be near her–but he doesn’t want her to die. And he does agree that she has taken care of him in a way–he agrees when Emma points that out in An Apple As Red As Blood. 🙂

Also, the second time he calls her mom was when she was about to kill Prince Charming–I think he did it to stop her. He might be starting to realize that he does have a bit of an influence over her–he told her not to talk to her until she found Emma and Snow White.

“Since when does he call her ‘Mom’ “? While it’s true we never saw him address Regina directly as “Mom” during the first season, he always referred to her as “my mom” (in the third person) all season long. After all, she was the only mom he knew until he found Emma, so I always just assumed he had been calling her “Mom” for his entire life. I wouldn’t expect him to suddenly change a habit of a lifetime after he found Emma, even though he also began to refer to Emma as “my mom”.

I posted some thoughts on the question “Why doesn’t Henry love Regina?” at
http://www.onceuponatimespace.com/q3HenryLvRegina.html but since then it occurred to me that, despite his steadfast opposition to her and desire to escape from her, Henry never really expressed any personal animosity toward Regina. In fact considering how intensely they were battling each other over The Curse, it’s surprising to me that he stayed as civil to her as he did. Even in his most passionate outbursts, like in “The Stable Boy” (I think), when he insisted “…The Curse will end! Good will win!” he only expressed anger at Regina’s actions – never directly at her. He never said anything like “I hate you” or “I wish you were dead”, despite his knowledge of everything Regina had done and his revulsion at her actions. I still suspect that Regina and Henry may have been very close when he was little, and the deterioration of his relationship with her since then, especially since learning her true identity, hasn’t completely erased that early bond.

And I agree with Elle – his reaction to her words at the end of “A Land Without Magic” suggested that he was beginning to think perhaps she really does love him because he didn’t contradict her assertion as he had in previous eisodes. He just sat there silently, looking sad and a bit uncertain.

Well, he actually called her mom through the entire first season. Believe me, I had a marathon today and it was bugging me. He kept referring to her as his mom and he called her mom to her face. That’s what he’s been raised calling her and I guess he’s just going to keep doing that.
I was a little upset that he suddenly cared about her, but I think that can be explained by her telling him she loved him in the last episode. I think he’s finally realized that she does love him.

Yup and I think she does but now comes the part where she has to prove it. Maybe we’ll see a little redemption for Regina?

I know of some real bad things happening while I was growing up. Even though they did happen and I used to wish I was anywhere else but at that present moment, now, I wouldn’t wish it away for anything. I believe that it has made me who I am today and that if I wasn’t who I am today that it would adversely affect the delicate balance of Life. Now that we are off that epiphany 😉 , I think it is important to note that regardless what Henry called/(s) his stepmother/foster mother and the fact that she is the “evil queen”, she did raise Henry. I can only believe that formed a mother/child bond, perhaps? If not, I’m sure she would have no remorse or rather, her conscience would be more or less clear about how she feels about Henry. I think I had more but I seem to have officially lost my train of thought, oh well…

Henry also referred to Emma as his mom too in that scene… is it me or is it all gonna get kind of convoluted? Emma, Mom? Snow, Mary Margaret? Ruby, Red? Charming, James, David? Rumple, Gold?!
