@SoulSoldier:
1. Who says Emma is Alice in Wonderland?
2. How can Emma and Henry have a FT counterpart before they were born? The FT land is the past. Not the present. They’re two different worlds, but the FT world is dead now. Before Henry was born.
Henry was born in our world. He never existed in the fairytale world. Therefore, he has no counterpart.
Both the writers and Jennifer Morrison have confirmed that Emma is a new fairytale character they created, so it is safe to say that Henry is, too. 😀 That said, they also admitted that they did base story of The Ugly Duckling on Emma–how she goes through many changes and all. And I can see comparing Emma to Alice–
1). Both enter into a strange world that they are not used to.
2). Both are surrounded my oddities (Storybrooke is not a normal town) and don’t really have any idea on how to approach them.
3). Both are very curious.
4). Both affect the world they are in.
5). And the story does closely follow them. I know there are other main character in Once Upon A Time, but Emma is one of them that are closely followed.
Henry is very much like his family–he is brave, courageous, strong, curious, and smart. He certainly has a Prince-like edge to him for some reason. the way he dresses and holds himself, as well as what he says.
I have a feeling that he is the center simply for how he brought everyone together. He is the reason Emma decided to stay in Storybrooke. And because she stayed, time moved forward.
Back to Henry – really do see him evolving into a very noble Prince-Charming type. Didn’t Jared even joke about wanting a sword this season on twitter?
Found this quote from the creators about Henry in season 2:
I think with Henry there’s a real sense of getting what you want, but it’s not what you thought it would be. He just assumed that when the curse broke, he would end up in the Enchanted Forest and be learning how to be a knight.
For both Henry and Emma, there may be obvious allusions to well known characters and stories but in the end their not going to be unfolding as just one well known characters. Emma alluded to Prince Phillip in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, is symbolic of the Ugly Duckling, and may also be Alice like since she and Snow appear to be transported to another realm next season.
