Henry’s got three parents now–Regina, Emma, and Neal.

And that gives him quite the pile of grandparents (as well as great-grandparents, including Regina in that cohort actually) with really really really complex relationships.

Among other things, Rumple’s kissed two of his three grandmothers (remember when he was like ew, you kissed my mom at Graham, who didn’t admit he’d kissed both of them?) and also was responsible for both of those women’s deaths. Don’t think he’s kissed Snow yet (and Charming wouldn’t put up with that!).

He no longer has grandparents on Regina’s side, with Regina being directly involved in both their deaths through the use of their hearts (and to Rumple’s benefit in both cases). He never met his namesake, who died 18 years before he was born, and Cora was hiding when he left Storybrooke and died the day he came back so I think he never got to meet her either.

He’s pretty close to Charming and Snow, the latter of whom was his teacher before the curse broke (did she give up teaching at that point? It’s never been said). They’re also the youngest of his grandparents, having been born a good 8 or so years after Regina in Snow’s case (so they’re younger than one of his mothers) and due to the curse freezing time apparently of the same age as Emma.

Gold is the oldest of his grandparents, being somewhere around 300 years old at this point (but looking significantly younger than that due to being the Dark One). Milah of course died around 15 years after Bae’s birth (maybe a bit later but not much) at Rumple’s hands, so Henry never got to meet her.

Belle, if she ever marries Gold (they are true loves so it could happen) would become Henry’s step-grandmother. Hook couldn’t have married Milah because she was already married, but because of their connection Hook might see himself in the role of spiritual grandfather at some point. Depends a lot on his relationship with Bae, which is as yet unclear. Also, Hook doesn’t currently know or care much about Henry so it’s kind of irrelevant to him, but that could change.

And then there are the great-grands, first of which is his own mother Regina, step-great-grandmother on Snow’s side. (Fun, huh?)

We know that King Xavier was Regina’s grandfather on Henry’s side, and that Cora’s father was a drunken miller. Nothing about their mothers.

Rumple’s father was a coward, and he was raised by spinsters. They are all presumably dead by now. We know nothing about Milah’s lineage.

Snow’s mother Eva was killed by Cora, and her father Leopold was killed by Regina (through the Genie).

David’s father died when he was young but was apparently a shepherd; his mother, Ruth, died before he and Snow took back the kingdoms. His adoptive father George could count as a great-grand and is still alive, but since Spencer killed Billy, tried to frame Red (who is honorary Great-Aunt to Henry anyway), and back in FTL tried to kill both the Charmings as well as render them sterile, I don’t think he’s exactly going to be welcomed into Henry’s life. (Great-Uncle James died before David ever knew him.)

So Cora and George are the only great-grandparents who lived long enough to meet Henry and they’re both ruthless killers. Also Cora’s dead now.

If Belle married Rumple, thus making her step-grandmother to Henry, then Moe French/Maurice would also be Henry’s step-great-grandfather.

Also, James seemed to be a real womaniser so it’s possible that some of his flings could have resulted in children that he refused to recognise so Henry could have lots of illegitimate cousins once removed.

Cora would have been Henry’s step-great-great-grandmother and just grandmother since she’s Emma’s step-great-grandmother and Snow’s grandmother and Regina’s mother.

Perhaps the writers should have Henry do his family tree for a school project.

Jane Espenson tweeted that Mary Margaret will be teaching again in next week's episode so that’s one mystery solved. (not sure that’s worth a spoiler tag, not earth shocking, but technicallly it is a spoiler)

Perhaps she’s talking about the flashback?

Could be, but it didn’t sound like it to me, somebody asked her if MM was still teaching… And it would make a good contrast with the battle she is struggling with internally. The innocence of children vs the darkness she has decended in.
