I’m confused. I thought I saw something from Kitsis just a few days ago (in the same blurb about the gender switching) that said that they had full rights to everything. I assumed they were talking about the Peter Pan copyright issue discussions and were saying that wasn’t an issue. So are they now saying that there ARE copyright issues they are working through?
An article I read on-line that discussed the copyright regarding Peter Pan said that in the US the copyright issues have generally not been a problem and that Disney has been able to use Peter Pan whenever they have wanted to.
So I am completely confused now as to whether August could be Peter Pan or not. Maybe they are trying to confuse us?? I wonder, does the Peter Pan copyright also apply to the Lost Boy label? Because Bae being one of Lost Boys theory could still work if the copyright issue only applies specifically to Peter Pan.
I also read that Disney granted full rights to any character and story to OUAT (of course, they are basically granting it to themselves as they own ABC 😆 ) And I also agree that Disney seems to have pretty decent abilities to use Peter Pan outside just the movie ( after all, they have made a second move, they have him visiting the parks, they have a ride of his adventures in the parks- no copyright problems there). But this interview was only taken a couple days ago so I am not sure where the mix up is on the status of Peter Pan.
As I said in the beginning, I would just DIE if they did Peter Pan. With Belle and Peter in the same series they have me hooked ( no pun intended) ! Maybe it is an issue of deviating from the original story that has the copyright on it. If they are trying to put a twist on the original Peter Pan, it could be what is causing them an issue.
I think that if Peter Pan has copyright issues then the Lost Boys is included. It is all of the story and the characters and all that. I think that the reason Disney has had less of an issue is because they have worked something out with the hospital and they also still retain all rights to their material so they can use their version of Tinkerbell and such. I am not sure how it works exactly, but if there is an issue it would be for the entire story, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t work something out with the hospital that owns the rights. And they may have worked something out for the two Peter Pan movies they have made besides just the cartoon one.
My first take on H was Romeo and Juliet. And J looks like Peter Pan’s legs to me 😀
