I guess I just don’t see what’s so bad about it. I mean, they turned annoying Disney Snow White into a butt-kicking renegade and no one has a problem with that.
I’m sorry, I know I need to have an open mind–and I do. But the thing is for me, personally, I love these writers and I know what they’re capable of. And for some characters, such as Belle, they wanted us to know immediately who Emile de Ravin (sp?) was playing, obviously. But for a character who is new, sort of familiar, a stranger from out of town–a town that no one is supposed to be able to enter–these writers know that we’re sitting on the edge of our seats and arguing over forums and they’re loving it. They have thought of all the ways they could make it look like Bae and Pinocchio or OZ or Peter Pan and for each clue they decide to give us, they have thought of ways in which that one clue could lead us to believing he’s 5 different characters. The leg is turning back to wood, but really he’s just not use to walking cause he’s Peter Pan, but wait what if he really is just a Grimm brother…. I’m desperately hoping that he is a very important character. I’m not saying Pinocchio isn’t important, I just don’t think all the obvious signs of him being Pinocchio would satisfy all the hype that they’ve built up over this guy.
I also have a passion for cinematography and I actually do a reality show of my family over the summers for our friends and family on fb, twiiter, etc. And my favorite thing to do, especially on “next week promos” was to put together clips out of context to make people think something different than it really is. It gets the audience excited and more people will want to start watching. Last week’s promo, for this episode (The Return) led us to believe that Mr. Gold said TO AUGUST, “I think you’re here to try and kill me.” And he wasn’t even talking to August in that scene. His words mumbled together and the editors knew they could fool us. Even more, I bet Jane Espenson is laughing her you know what off right now that she fooled us on Bae. And I’d put money on it that they’re tricking us again with the next promo. Emma is talking to August (we think) and says you want me to believe that you're a fairy tale character? And while she’s saying that line we see footage of Pinocchio being pulled out the water. I just think the moment when August’s identity is revealed, it’s not going to be in a promo. It’s going to be something we haven’t even thought of, like they did with Red and the Wolf (also written by Jane Espenson).
The writers have said that the season finale is going to be the best hour of television we’ve ever seen. These last 3 episodes have to be huge and open us up for a whole new season of fairy tale action. I just don’t see that happening if he’s Pinocchio. We saw that there are more portals (which was my theory in another thread about all the worlds having their own passage in and out, like the hat in wonderland). That portal was green, the phone August called on was green, we know there’s a green door–I don’t know who this guy is, but I’m betting and desperately hoping that he’s from another world so that they have a lot more material for season 2.

I’d like to think she almost spilled the beans. August J. Booth came out with no hesitation as if a name very similar is discussed around the writers’ table. Idk, but it’s her reaction and recovering and her smiling that makes me believe that, i don’t know, maybe the J is part of his real character’s name or the original character he is playing but they changed the letter so that we couldn’t just google it and get an answer. That’s the thing, I feel like each part of his name comes from a different story because if it wasn’t, we’d be able to find something. The August could be a date, or Augustus (Grimm), or the month a certain song that was released and had the title of a metaphor they’re trying to portray in FTL but have to do the opposite in SB hahahahaha okay wowww. I need to stop thinking for a sec. ❓ Mario KART! 😛
i’m already over my theory about Lampwick. He needs to way more important. I’d rather Pinocchio than that guy. It’s just that… I know he's not Pinocchio. 😮
April 23, 2012 at 11:12 pm #143484Killian JonesParticipantI called it him being Pinocchio so I favor my theory so all I’ll say is I guess we’ll see. I’m about 90% he’s pinocchio the new synopsis points to it so do a lot of clues & there’s a reasonable way to go with the story if he is in fact Pinocchio.

I think turning the cutsy Disney Pinocchio into August would be kind of awesome. 🙂 If he also was sent to our world 28 years ago, he’s had nearly three decades to turn into his own person … a writer, a motorcycle aficienado, a person who’s spent all the time away from his beloved parent and his very world, a person who might have known that he could, one day, be killed by the curse’s effects, a person who knows exactly who to blame for the curse (Regina and Rumple). A man who knows perfectly well that this world he’s in thinks FTL and its people are nothing but silly stories for children. And he’s the only one who knows otherwise.
Cutsy, heck. I think that Pinocchio couldn’t be blamed for taking names and kicking butt.
Yes, I think August is wonderful and that him being Pinocchio would be wonderful, so I agree with you, I’m not sure why so many people seem so anti the possibility.

Obviously we all have a different perspective, but IMO his being Pinocchio would be INCREDIBLY signifcant and would be a VITAL point to moving Emma towards believing, therefore him being Pinocchio would be a significant driving force for the overall plot of the show. I’m not sure how a character could be more important than that at this point in time.

What was in the promo for The Return was the scene in Archie’s office where Mr Gold says, “I think he might be here to try and kill me,” followed up by the shot of August confronting him. They never showed him saying those words TO August. And when I heard Mr Gold say that in the promo, I automatically assumed that wasn’t what August was trying to do at all.
April 24, 2012 at 9:26 am #143648romantic_sheepParticipantJane said that she got confused with J. August Richards (an actor she wrote for on Angel), which could be a cover-up, but I think that’s probably all there is to it.
Although throughout the entire last episode I was convinced he was Pinocchio (or more that I saw through what the writers were doing and didn’t buy that he was Bae, while Pinocchio fit clues like “he’s recently found his father in town”) I do hope that he’s not, just because I want to be surprised. I really hope next week they turn around and say “Haha, fooled you again, not Pinocchio either” for that reason alone. After all this build up, I want it to be less obvious than that. And I also can’t get over that Pinocchio has red hair.April 24, 2012 at 9:31 pm #143776jondavidcarrollParticipantI mean COME OOOONNN
April 24, 2012 at 9:59 pm #143785nightreaderParticipant^That. Especially with how August said to Rumple he doesn’t even look like Bae, he looks a lot more like Bae than he does Pinocchio.
April 24, 2012 at 10:02 pm #143787jondavidcarrollParticipantExactly! That comment means they’re looking at physical appearance. These two don’t even have the same color eyes.
April 24, 2012 at 10:06 pm #143790hjbauParticipantThose pictures are great. That is exactly how i feel. Throw all the hints you want at August is Pinocchio, but they just don’t look anything alike.

It’s the furthest thing from a sure thing but the hints have been there for a while Along with the spoilers and spoiler pics which still leave a lot open to speculation so I’m sticking to it. On Sunday well see for sure I wouldn’t put it past the writers to kill both the Bae theory & the Pinocchio theory in back to back weeks. However if my theory is right I will be creating a” He is freakin Pinocchio thread” lol
