ParticipantI have doubts that ABW= “A Wooden Boy” is intentional, although I do believe he is Pinocchio. I will say this much….if he’s *not* Pinocchio, they sure have some ‘splainin to do for all the clues that point to him!

ParticipantThere are some really good points in this thread. I didn’t realize the horse-looking figurine was a donkey but that makes sense if it is supposed to hint at Pinnochio/Lampwick. And Dr. Whale was back–there’s nothing weird about it because he was needed for Kathryn but it is significant if he is Monstro which is always what I’ve assumed. (Though they almost got me in Red-Handed because I couldn’t figure out why he was in that episode unless he was the wolf… but he was just a red-herring to keep us from realizing it was really Ruby) And man, they seriously had me going with the Bae-stuff. Especially the flashbacks. π
These writers pull way too many tricks on us!!! argh! The only thing that makes it okay is how when they reveal everything you go, “Ohhh I see now!” If we ever don’t have that reaction to a new reveal–then it will be a problem.
Anyway, I’m against the Pinocchio theory. Some people are pointing out Wizard of Oz references that are interesting. Like all the emerald-colored things in this episode. *shrug*

ParticipantHere’s the thing: Storybrooke has featured Jiminy Cricket prominently, Geppetto from time to time, and even someone we think could very well, somehow, have been Monstro (if a man can be turned into a cricket, why not a whale?). Meanwhile Pinocchio himself has been very oddly absent in Storybrooke … or has he? From the standpoint of putting together a complete story I don’t know why else Pinocchio would be missing unless there have been casting issues or he’s somewhere outside of Storybrooke for some other reason.
While watching the ep., as soon as Mother Superior said that he’d found his father but hadn’t spoken to him yet, I realized it was very likely not really Bae. I whispered to Dan that it could still go either way (Bae or Pinocchio) and he looked at me like I was crazy. π I was right about the not-Bae part, but we’ll likely know in a few days about the rest!
I actually didn’t like the Pinocchio theory either, at first, but that’s largely because it’s not my favorite story. Someone earlier pointed out that they make the fairytales quite a bit more awesome, in general, so even if August is Pinocchio I’m sure we’ll enjoy the story.

Very good point. OUAT’s version fairytales tend to be all kinds of awesome. So, I’ll try to reserve judgment until the episode airs. π

ParticipantHonestly, in that side by side pic of Pinocchio and August, apart from the eye and hair colour, I think they look quite similar. Their mouths aren’t much different, similar face shape, and their noses are a perfect match.

Another clue comes at 33:08. If you view that scene you will see the light shining through the background as Rumple and August hug. The shadow is a puppet string holder turned sideways. Maybe I am just seeing what I want to see but the clues keep pointing to him being Pinocchio.
You know what I’m gonna be looking for the next time I watch the ep. LOL

YES, this is one of the big reasons why I think it makes perfect sense for him to be Pinocchio. We’ve seen the other players in that story, but the main character has been missing. If Pinocchio wasn’t going to be someone important to the storyline, if he was just gonna be some random kid around town, or a puppet in Mr Gold’s shop, they would have shown that by now to clear it up and get it out of the way.
So I believe that Pinocchio is meant to play a vital role. In order for the plot of the show to advance, especially with the momentum they’ve got going now at the end of the season, Emma needs to believe. There’s a mysterious guy in town whose sole purpose in Storybrooke is to get Emma to believe. Just sayin’.

WORD. I know they’re big on misdirection, and that’s a fun part of the show because it gets you thinking, keeps you guessing, draws you into the show and gets people discussing it. But from my perspective there’s just SO much that points to Pinocchio, that if he’s NOT, I hope they’ve come up with a theory I can believe that’ll make me overlook all the hints.

I just don’t see why they would introduce a sub character from the Pinocchio story as a key figure? To me I like the way Pinocchio fits into what’s happened and what looks like is gonna happen. All the clues and spoiler clues point to Pinocchio

Yep, I agree with everything said. I posted the same thing elsewhere. I’ve never been a huge fan either of the Disney cartoon version of Pinocchio, but that’s not grounds to disqualify the character. Knowing how OUAT takes traditional fairy-tale characters and adds some extra spice to them, I think that there is a good chance they could do some cool things with grown-up Pinocchio. If the writers can transform a little damsel in distress like Snow into a fire-cracker princess, surely then can transform a former puppet into a fighting hero.

ParticipantPersonally, not liking Pinocchio’s fairy tale isn’t my reason for not liking the Pinocchio theory at all. I actually do like Pinocchio and I would love for him to be in the show. It’s just that I don’t want him to be August or the seven year old boy who found Emma or even grown up at all. I’d rather he and Geppetto be in Jefferson and Grace’s situation, separated from each other by the curse. But I do think there’s a lot of evidence pointing toward Pinocchio and August probably is him and the writers probably can reveal it in a way I will like, even though they haven’t won me over yet and I would still rather him be someone else.

I posted this on another thread, but I’ll repost it here too, Jiminy was turned back from a cricket into a man, it seems previous enchantments could be eliminated in SB, sooooo if August is Pinocchio then he must be changing back into a puppet- if he isnt August then Pinno will either be puppet somewhere in SB or is bumping around our world somewhere.
Personally Im really hoping August isn’t Pino- I really dislike that theory, its got so many holes the writers will be having to make some pretty massive circumstances appear outta who knows where to make me believe he could have been totally ‘saved’, yet never went & found Emma inorder to ‘break’ the curse & save his farther/everyone if it is the case.
I also wont ‘like’ August anymore if he is Pino – I hate Pino as a character he’s totally obnoxious & arrogant in the original tales (he really doesn’t need to be pushed into doing bad things- he wants to do bad things!) – Disney ended up totally changing his personalty for his cartoon as even he didnt ‘like’ Pino πApril 26, 2012 at 10:10 am #144140Killian Jones
