Wendy started THO to find Bae. At some point we get flashbacks to her setting it all up when she was in her early 20s. They’ve gotta have something in mind for a slightly older version of her, because otherwise why did they cast a 19 year old and age her down for SSTTR.
Over the years, THO has fallen into new hands, and is run by someone who has perverted its original intent, so it’s no longer about the reasons Wendy set it up – “Bae was right, magic is bad, it stole him away, so we must find a way to get him back” – to “magic must be eradicated”. I reckon the present day head of THO is Tamara’s “grandmother”.
I think that having the big boss be someone we already know of would have more of an impact than it being some random stranger. The two most shocking people it could be at this point would be Wendy or Grandma. It’d be more convoluted to try and explain Wendy still being alive, but we’ve seen Grandma’s face in a recent photo. If they wanted to do a shock reveal for the finale, seeing Grandma’s face again, but this time sitting behind the boss’ desk at THO, and having her say something hardcore-cult-leader-like and non-sweet-old-lady-like would be rather awesome.
And I’m not super 100% sure about this last bit yet, but if Grandma is running this show, she must have some knowledge of magical lands, so I’m gonna say maybe she’s Dorothy.

The immediate boss could be tied to Tamara–maybe the lady in the picture is not her Grandmother at all. I think it might also be shocking if it is tied to Whale–like his Brother & Igor. If you read Raul Ybarra’s article that he posted, he has a theory to tie it all together that’s rather interesting.
It may also be someone we’re about to meet in the finale. Such as someone we meet in NL past.

May 12, 2013 at 12:59 pm #193334RumplesGirlKeymasterI wonder if we’ll get a sense of who is in charge tonight. It would help build the mystery that is to come in S3. Maybe we won’t see the boss, but GOAT will talk to them on the phone and drop some subtle hints about who it is.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 12, 2013 at 1:49 pm #193342PheeParticipantIn the midst of all the speculation about Tamara, people were also wondering about Grandma in the photo. They could have had Tamara give the Dragon any object, but they had her hand over a photo in particular. Something that revealed someone else’s face. Someone who Tamara is obviously emotionally connected to.
Now that we’ve learned more about Tamara, it seems like her first priority in life is the cause. She spent all that time living a fake life with Nealfire, going so far as to get engaged to him, that’s the level of dedication she has to this cause. She lives for it. I don’t see someone like her being overly sentimental about people. But she was sentimental about the woman in that photo. Which I think means that Grandma has to have a link to Tamara’s cause.
If so, then I think that reveal will have to be this season. It loses its impact if the season ends and then everyone goes away for the long hiatus. Casual viewers have probably already forgotten about that photo. So if they’re gonna bring it back into play, it really needs to be this season. So if that photo was planted for a reason, I reckon we’ll be seeing her face again in the finale.
May 12, 2013 at 2:00 pm #193346RumplesGirlKeymasterI hope you’re right Phee. I had enough issues with Selfless, Brave and True that if the photo has no connection to the overall plot or if Tamara doesn’t have one semi-legit reason for hating magic as much as she does, I’m going to be disappointed.

So much fun to speculate–good thing, cause that’s all we get over the summer 🙁 😆

May 12, 2013 at 7:54 pm #193392sacrlcParticipantWhat if Tamara’s grandmother was killed by someone using magic. That would definitely account for her zeal. If Tamara and her grandmother were from the southeastern US, this is a very religious region, with many different beliefs, but all believing in what is Holy and what is Unholy. This could be the root of Tamara’s motivations.
As for the Home Office, I found something that may or may not explain it. There is something (a game?) called the “Shining One” which has the description according to the website: http://crawl.chaosforge.org/The_Shining_One
“The Shining One is a powerful deity on a crusade against all evil. Followers and their allies may be granted various blessings upon mercilessly slaying evil and unholy beings. Worshippers must never use unholy or evil magic, and are expected to prove their moral superiority by fighting honorably. The god demands followers scour the world, examining all of its inhabitants for traces of evil that must be eradicated.”
Possible?
Don't grow up. It's a trap.
May 12, 2013 at 8:17 pm #193396RumplesGirlKeymasterI definitely believe that Tamara’s family has to factor into why she hates magic so much. The fact that she has a grandmother (which is the only personal fact about her that we’ve learned) heightens any kind of Tiana connection they might try to make.
The Shinning One and the H.O. do seem to have some similarities. Nice find."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"May 16, 2013 at 7:52 pm #194926moonlight1876ParticipantOff the topic of Tamara; I liked how they had the shadow running the Home Office. It made it tie in nicely.
But do you think the shadow is Peter Pan, or do you think that guy was referring to himself in third person? If you think about it, it could be either one. I automatically assumed the shadow was Peter, but that guy the said “Peter Pan never fails,” could have been referring to himself in third person. Either way, I liked how it tied in. -
