The only time we saw the real Ursula in the episode was when she had possessed a statue of herself. Since Ursula is still a witch, that’s something she could possibly still do, whether she’s a goddess or not.
If Ursula were just a common witch at that point, how could she have known that Regina was impersonating her? The impression I got was that Ursula, as a real goddess, was “watching over” the situation as it unfolded and then scared Regina. If she isn’t a goddess then I’d like to know how she knew what was going on and how she breached Regina’s mirror because for some reason that also seemed like something only a very powerful person could do.

I mean, if it were something completely and utterly terrible, she’d have A) Been surprised to see him B) Most Likely attacked him and C) Wouldn’t have just strolled away even if she did attack. Ursula is kind of snarky. She’d have words to say I assume. Especially if Hook “crushed her soul”. Why just walk away?
I got the impression she WOULD have said more if it wouldn’t have compromised the shenanigans they were up to in town. As they walked away, Cruella put a hand on Ursula’s back as if to comfort her and tell her to not turn around and look at him again.

It was “soul-crushing.” So I think it really was that bad, which is why Hook lied to Emma about it, seeing how he doesn’t want her to know about his dark side. Otherwise, Hook might have told Emma the truth. Maybe Hook somehow took away Ursula’s ability to live in the sea? That would be a fate worse than death for a creature of the sea who loves it there (unlike Ariel who was a land-lover). Maybe Hook somehow demoted Ursula from her goddess-like status as the daughter of Poseidon. Whatever it was, I’m thinking Ursula resents Hook but just wanted to put on a brave face in front of him (i.e. her poker face), so as not to give him the satisfaction of letting him know how deeply he hurt her.

I’m thinking it’s going to be the complete opposite of the Little Mermaid Story. Perhaps, Ursula once fell in love with the Pirate Hook, something her father was strongly against….maybe she was willing to sacrifice everything for the pirate she loved, and he abandoned her in the end after he got whatever he wanted from her. Thus leaving her to face her father who not only demoted Ursula from her goddess status, but banished her out of the kingdom, leaving her brother King Triton to gain it in her place.
That’s a way to make it worse than heart break, and more like getting your soul crushed. That exchange Ursula gave Hook and Emma was sooooo the “scorned ex girlfriend.”

In PotC there was a character named Tia Dalma, who was a creepy sorceress type, and was later revealed to be the sea goddess Calypso, who had been confined to human form by a scorned Davy Jones, who enlisted the help of the Pirate Lords to do so.
They set Ursula up as a sea goddess, and given Hook’s surname, everyone’s been expecting a Davy Jones connection of some sort at some point.
I don’t expect that Urusla and Hook had a romantic relationship like Calypso and Davy Jones did. But Hook stripping her of her goddess status in some way would still fit with theme from the movie.

Oh perfect. We’ve suspected a Davy Jones tie in to Hook for a long time. That would work well
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 12, 2015 at 9:11 am #298338RumplesGirlKeymasterAlso, the theme of a man robbing a woman of her more-than-human status and rendering her “less than” she was before, is a pretty big theme in the 2014 Maleficent movie in which Stephan steals Mal’s wings (a heavy handed symbol of her feminine power) and she is reduced to something less than what she was. It’d be nice if they took that theme and applied it to someone *other* than their own Mal since OUAT’s Mal is a walking 2014 Mal.
