Hopkins, MN

I was wondering about the significance, if any, of the town Hopkins, MN, where Emma Swan ended up at age 14. I looked it up on Google maps, and it’s a real suburb of Minneapolis, MN. I have a theory that may be Eddy Kitsis’ hometown. According to Wikipedia, he is form Minneapolis, Minnesota. I also believe that NYC is where Adam Horowtiz is from, which is probably why both Emma and Neal chose it as home for a time. The decision to make another of Emma’s temporary homes be in Hopkins, MN may be a nod to Eddy’s hometown.

I was really excited to see that she was in Minnesota! (Though I am admittedly biased since that’s where I live. But I’m not in Hopkins, I’m a couple hours north. 🙂 )

So this is our third Minnesota reference.

1) In 1×02 (I think…), Regina goes to see Emma at Granny’s and gives her a basket of Honeycrisp apples. Honeycrisps were developed at the University of Minnesota, and are the Minnesota State Apple. (The actual apples in the basket were not Honeycrisps, but I digress.)

2) In 3×07, John and Michael’s car had Minnesota license plates.

3) 4×05, Young Emma ran away from her group foster home (in Boston?) and ended up in  Hopkins, MN.

I had remember that John & Michael’s car had a MN license plate. At some point the boys ended up in our world and grew up a bit & learned to drive a car. Maybe Pan sent them to MN to watch Emma and they’d been following her & Henry till they ended up in SB. I wonder if Emma just picked the 1st bus out of town she could afford and just ended up in MN or if she had a reason she wanted to go to MN vs say Florida.
