So after rewatching What Happened to Frederick something has been bothering me. How did Catherine suddenly decide to go to law school? Have I missed something because I don’t recall there even being a college of any kind in Storybrooke and since the characters can’t come and go that would mean that Catherine would have had to go to college in Storybrooke and then take the LSAT and apply for lawschool. And to get accepted to law school she would have had to had an undergrad degree with good grades and a good LSAT score. How did all of that happen? How did all of those things suddenly come into existance? Catherine said that she had always wanted to go to law school but had been thinking about it a lot lately so she decided to apply. What suddenly made her feel like applying? She had been wanting to work things out with David and all of a sudden she decided to apply to law school without even mentioning it to him??
Did it have something to do with the pages that AWB added to the book about Frederick? Did she suddenly start to feel unsatisfied with her life with David because the book suddenly contained information about a relationship with Frederick in FTL? Did the law school scenario become the equivalent of “I don’t want to marry you either” in FTL? Unless the timeline was all messed up in the episode, AWB didn’t add the pages to the book until after Catherine announced she had been accepted to law school so I am very confused about this.

If so, then either David wasn’t awake yet or he was awake for just a few weeks and she didn’t want to tell him, because it was simply too soon? She also says, that she didn’t tell him, because she wasn’t sure she’d be able to get in.
About the LSATs. The curse probably gave all the characters the needed background info and certificates. I mean, they all can drive and thus probably have a driver’s license, but they couldn’t before in FTL. All the knowledge needed in “our world” was implanted by the curse. Thus, she could have applied in Boston.
I think she decided the whole law school thing before David woke up, but I don’t really have any evidence. :3

If EQ / Regina has control she could have implanted the idea in Kathryn of going to law school…. allowing her to leave STORYBROOK with David as that would but a great spike in any romance with MM if he was way out of town with his wife. I think Regina can let those who she wants out of town leave. … it just takes fudging the rules….
Or She would have both Kathryn and David in the room next to Belle in the asylum.
Just another one of my whacky ideas.

I agree with Mia, the curse gave them what they needed so that the town didn’t stand out too much if others passed through.
Dr. Whale has a degree to be a Doctor (we hope), Archie a degree in psychology, Mary Margret a degree in teaching ect.
If you think about the last few episodes Mr. Gold was a lawyer so it may be fitting for him to be the one to send Kathryn away to law school.
Also the town needs to have some contact with the outside world. Yes they can’t leave the town but that doesn’t mean they can’t talk on the phone send mail or e-mails. After all an e-mail and credit card is his Henry found Emma.
Plus now a days you can take courses on-line. Who is to say that Kathryn didn’t use a combination of all the above?
Just some theories.April 25, 2012 at 8:42 pm #144058hjbauParticipantI don’t think that anyone has a degree for any of their professions. I think it is sort of like with Doc, he got his degree from a pickaxe, everyone in Storybrooke got their degrees from the curse.
