Haha, ok kids, I’m loving all of the theories but for me, I’m going to keep the theory pretty simple…no hitching rides or anything (though seriously I would pay good money to see monkey Neal carrying Hook across realms….CaptainFire at it’s best right there!! 🙂 )
I think Philora got the message to Hook (nice theory Slurpeez!). Hook finds out Emma and the family are in trouble and he’s going to jump into action. He said it himself, he’s a pirate – and pirates are nothing if not resourceful. I don’t think that exchange between Hook/Charming was for nothing…I’m thinking things like memory potions and objects are black market items in the EF – difficult, but not impossible to find. Something that, say, another pirate *Blackbeard* just might trade in. Spoilers indicate the two might fight over a boat – Hook gives up his home to get what he needs to get back to and save Emma, and by extension, the family.
I don’t think it’d be too difficult for Hook to find Emma – he managed to find Rumple in NY. Again, resourceful. And he already knows where Neal’s apartment is. He knows Emma and he knows what he’s going to need to do to get her to believe him, even if it causes her pain or he has to pull her off track for a moment to achieve his goal of getting her to listen to him.
The WW needed Regina’s blood to enact the curse. I think she’s the true key this time around. But if the WW has done her homework, she knows Emma is in the same realm, and having her remember/come back to SB/bring Henry to SB could destroy the WW’s plan, so she sends Monkey Man to NY to keep Emma away. Sadly, they underestimate Emma & the family, because Walsh proves to be a distraction Emma’s willing to say goodbye to if her family is in trouble.

I also think it’s Neal who sent Hook the note because that’s how he and AWB would communicate, via postcard. Something has gone wrong with Neal and he sends out a last ditch effort of an S.O.S via a note to Hook, because he knows that he can trust Hook to find Emma.

The Jolly Roger is made of enchanted wood, and it’s already harnessed the power of two other magical creatures for realm travel, so a magical wooden figurehead on the prow seems like a natural upgrade. Plus, I think the image begs to be on the show, since it would be goofy and macabre at the same time.

that’s true but the JR needs a portal in order to move. It’s enchantment is that it’s the fastest ship in all the realms, but we’ve never seen it be able to move without some sort of device–bean, Pegasus sail

World travel can still be easier than the Curse of all Curses.
Rumple needed the curse because he didn’t just need to get to another world, he had to get to the RIGHT world, at the RIGHT time to find Bae. He implied he knew which world when he talked to Jefferson but for all we know, he didn’t really know what world. He just knew it was A world without magic, and that most portal methods wouldn’t work. The whole conversation was staged for Regina to overhear so I have my doubts anyway about what he said to Jefferson being “real”. When he met August, he wasn’t sure how old Bae would be or how he’d look.
I think it adds up to Rumple relying on magic (as his story has been) a little too much to do it all for him. He tried a few other avenues, but ultimately, he gave into his fate as told by the Seer and just trusted the curse would do what he expected it to do.
So anyway it still shouldn’t be super easy but there’s always some new magical doodad they’ve never mentioned before lurking somewhere. Maybe Blackbeard has a magical pirate eyeglass that can spot leprechauns that can make rainbow bridges that go between worlds 😛

Right, but isn’t 317 the Blackbeard episode? So the flashbacks could be how Hook got the JR back and travelled to our world.
I agree, KFC. It seems like how difficult it is to travel to realms depends on the character who’s trying to get somewhere (and how badly the storyline needs someone to get somewhere!). Rumple: Dependent on magic, magic alone only does so much – and as you said, he needed to get somewhere specific….which Cora showed in S2 can be tricky. ~~~~ Neal: “Lots of things make magic portals” and didn’t he say he got back to the EF because that’s what he was thinking about when he got sucked in? ~~~~~ Magic beans are gone, wait, there’s a bean, we can grow a bean farm! Yeah, the bean is all dried up but Lake Nostos will resurrect it! ~~~~ Ruby slippers/silver slippers/some kind of slippers! ~~~ So what I’m saying is, Neal didn’t seem to imply it was too difficult in 3×12, I’m guessing he’d find a way to get back if not stopped somehow…Snowing’s speech wasn’t that convincing…and if Hook thinks Emma’s in trouble, he’s going to find a way back (and doesn’t have Snowing’s oh-so-not-really-amazing speech to think about….! ) 🙂
March 15, 2014 at 2:35 am #253043PheeParticipantHaving pondered this for a few days now, my main suspect for who sent Hook the message is Neal.
Whoever Hook’s been in contact with has to know Neal’s address, (I know Hook’s been there before, but to be able to write out the full address properly, I think someone with knowledge of addresses in our world had to write it, that thing had a zip code on it and everything, and how would Hook even know that a zip code is a thing in order to include it in an address), and had to know that there would be something inside Neal’s apartment that would help convince Emma to believe. The only two people who would be able to know that information are Neal and Rumple, because no one else has been inside Neal’s apartment, (not even Hook himself).
There’s another thread about the theory that someone is watching Emma from a cab as she comes out of the resturant, and there’s also a cab that drives past when MonkeyWalsh is flying up the side of the building too. That person in the cab (if it’s anyone and we’re not just completely over analysing the importance of the cab) could be Neal. It’s more believable to me that Hook’s been able to camp out in NYC for a couple of days if he’s got Neal with him. How did Hook even know there was a zoo in Central Park, or any specific, noteable location to tell her to meet him at, if he didn’t have information from someone who knows the city, because he knows nothing about the city himself.
Hook’s reply to Emma question of, “Why didn’t you tell me it was Neal’s apartment,” would be fitting if he and Neal had had a recent conversation about why Neal couldn’t go himself. I know it’s been implied previously that Hook is aware of at least some details of Neal and Emma’s past, but the scene in the Diner Hook was all, “Sure, give it a go,” but in NYC he was all, “Well DUH you wouldn’t want anything to do with him,” which is a shift in tone, like if he and Neal had actually discussed specifics of why Neal himself couldn’t go to her with her current state of memories.
Neal knows a bit about magic, so it’s believable that he could have learned a bit more, enough to make a memory potion, and that could have been a team effort between them. If Neal could get his hands on that crystal ball in Rumple’s castle again, he’d be able to see Emma and recognise that she’s in NYC, in order to know where Hook had to go to find her.
JMo’s been saying in interviews how Hook and Neal have this relationship and stuff, and it’s sorta rung false IMO because we haven’t seen them as being close at all in present day thus far. But if she was saying that with the knowledge that they’ve been working together, then her comments would make more sense.
In the second Sneak Peek for 313, Hook comments that Neal will turn up, which I think lends credence to the theory that he’s been in contact with him, and therefore knows that he’s alive somewhere.

Phee this is a really good point and I think I might be agreeing. We’ve been speculating on Aurora or Ariel but neither one of them would know Neal’s address. Only a few people were ever in NYC: Rumple, Neal, Henry and Emma. Obviously not Emma and Henry, Rumple is being held by the WW, and Neal.
The only way Aurora or Ariel could send a message like that to Hook would be if one of those two told them everything.
