Will became a genie through the price of magic when he used the final wish to rid Alice of her suffering.
But what about Cyrus? How did he become a genie? Was it similar? He said that he was human once and had a mother though it was long ago.
What do you think?

–Cyrus was born in Agrabah a long time ago to Jasmine and Aladdin. He was their only son and grew up loved in the palace. (making him Jafar’s ancestor)
–One day Aladdin found the Cave of Wonders and the bottle. Even though he had everything he could ever want, Aladdin spent his first two wishes
–The price of the second wish was that his wife Jasmine fell very ill.
–Aladdin, grieving, wishes that Jasmine would live and be healthy again
–Jasmine lived but the price of the wish was that their son was a genie inside the bottle.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 12, 2013 at 10:13 pm #230081TheWatcherParticipantHmm. I think there is a constant number of genies. If one dies or is freed, the person who killed them or freed them becomes a genie in their place. Might that explain why Alice never freed Cyrus?
This reminds me of an old crack theory: Fairies and Genies are sort of the same species. Males are just genies and fairies are ya know… Fairies >> but they have similar powers (fairies grant wishes and help others. Genies do too, both can become large or small) and I vaguely remember hearing we would learn where fairies come from this season of Once >>

Interesting theory, I kinda like it. I was thinking though that perhaps it was Cyrus’ mother who made a wish, attempting to protect her son from something, and the result was that he ended up in the bottle. That could still work in somehow if his parents were Jasmine and Aladdin. I’ll have to ponder this some more.

Amara did seem ageless, and Cyrus has been around for who knows how long, so I don’t think there would be any t-word issues that could prevent it?

No tword issues. Jafar is much younger than Cyrus and Amara didn’t age so it’s possible that she and Cyrus are both ageless.
Hm. But why would she want to capture her own son? She could have just wished him free. (I guess)

Wishes have consequences, much safer to save him by changing the laws of magic instead? LOL
It could explain her fascination with Genies in the first place, if she had some incident with a Genie, that involved her son becoming a Genie, and then she set about gathering as much magic as possible, so that one day she’d be able to save him.
On the podcast, they also suggested that the moment when Cyrus’ compass stopped spinning, was when Jafar imprisoned Amara in the staff.
