Couldn’t find an old thread – maybe it was just in an episode forum – so I’am opening another topic where we can theorize what breaks the curse.
At PaleyFest Ginnifer Goodwin said that she asked Kitsis&Horowitz about what breaks the curse and that “it makes total sense!”
I call a true love’s kiss by MM&David/Snow&David will break the curse completely. Now, please here me out before you go on about ho they can’t because Emma is the saviour!
They NEVER mention that Emma is the one to break the curse.
From the Pilot:
Snow White: What can we do?
Rumpelstiltskin: We can’t do anything.
Snow White: Who can?
Rumpelstiltskin: That little thing, growing inside your belly.
(Rumpelstiltskin gestures to Snow White’s pregnant belly. The prince slashes his hand away with a sword.)
Prince Charming: Next time, I cut it off.
Rumpelstiltskin: Tsk tsk. The infant is our only hope. Get the child to safety. Get the child to safety and on its twenty-eighth birthday, the child will return. The child will find you and a final battle will begin. It is only ever mentioned that when Emma returns the final battle will begin. It is not even mentioned that Emma is the key to breaking it! We just assume that.
I do believe Emma is the key to breaking the curse, but I don’t think she is the one that will break it completely. Emma is needed to make MM and David to truly remember either who they are, and thus also their true love, or fall truly in love. I wouldn’t say their love is yet as true and pure as it was in FTL. There are just too many obstacles and complications right now. Emma is the key to sort things out. Through her her relationship with MM she is also bringing forward MM’s and David’s relationship.
And as we’ve heard enough times: “True love’s kiss breaks any curse.” You could argue that Ashley/Cinderella’s and Sean/Prince Thomas’ kiss should’ve broken the spell, but the curse was directed especially at Snow and I believe only those who are the direct cause can break it.Slash away at me! 😉
1. Edit: Just remembered The Thing You Love Most:
Rumpelstiltskin: The truth! That nothing can stop the darkness. Except, of course, their unborn child. You see, no matter how powerful, all curses can be broken. Their child is the key. Of course, the curse has to be enacted first.
So Emma is the key, but still not the actual one to break it.

When Rumple said that Emma was the key, he probably meant that her coming back would start a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the breaking of the curse. Since she’s arrived, Emma has created change in almost every person she’s interacted with.
I think Emma is a huge part of breaking the curse, but probably won’t be only one who does break it. Someone else posted into another forum (I can’t remember who it was) that maybe Emma needs help from the other fairytale characters to break the curse. The person who posted this idea said that possibly due to the curse’s complexity it would take more than one person to break it.
I think that it’s through Emma’s interactions with other people and getting them to remember who they are that will lead to the breaking of the curse.

https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=609I wrote about this same concept in another thread, not either of these, and now don’t remember where… But I asked what counters a curse? A blessing perhaps. In the Bible there is a verse that says children are a blessing from the Lord. So, I think it is interesting that Emma, the child of PC and SW, has been presented as the one to counter the curse.

Regina had to kill her father, whom she loved the most to enact the curse. What if it’s the same thing to end the curse? What if one (or more) of them have to give up what they love the most to end the curse? That would explain why nothing happened after Mary Margaret and David kissed. I don’t see Emma or Mary Margaret killing someone, and it seems like they’ve all already given up what they love the most ( Emma/Henry, Mary Margaret/David), but maybe there is something to it. Perhaps Regina will have to give up Henry to Emma for the curse to end. That would still stick with making Emma the key to ending the curse. Am I crazy?
April 23, 2012 at 8:54 pm #143449PriceofMagicParticipantThe notion that true love’s kiss can break any curse makes me wonder whether that will be the way to break the curse but the question is who’s kiss will be the one to do it?
The obvious one is Snow White/Charming- once they remember who they truly are because that’s the only way a true love kiss works according to the episode Heart of Darkness and Regina set the curse off because of her hatred for Snow White.
However, there are other possibilities as well.
Emma/someone- Emma is meant to be the saviour and when she kissed Graham he remembered his fairytale life before Regina squashed his heart. Maybe Emma’s true love kiss is the one to break the curse.
Belle/Rumpelstiltskin- Belle is supposed to play a significant role in the finale (or so I heard somewhere, can’t remember where at the moment, maybe on here?) and Rumpel created the curse. It just seems to me that if Rumpel is given true love’s kiss and accepts it instead of going off on one, all his magic may be undone including the curse. Belle and Baelfire’s last words to Rumpel were “You’re a coward” because he chose power over love so perhaps he needs to choose love over power in order to set things right.
Regina/someone- Unlikely but you never know. Regina enacted the curse, is meant to have this void that can never be filled, perhaps Regina finds someone to love who loves her and their kiss breaks the curse. Sidney and Regina maybe. At her most desperate moment she realizes he truly loves her no matter what she has done?
If the curse is broken at the end of this series, I don’t think anyone will be returning to fairytale land. They’ll remember who they all were and what there lives were like but they’ll be stuck in Storrybrooke. It’ll be interesting because in fairytale land they all relied on magic in a way and now they will be stuck in a land without magic and they’ll have to adjust to that.
All magic comes with a price!

I chuckled to myself when the BF said to Rumpel “you would think of a curse instead of a blessing”
