“Nobody’s born a monster. We’re made. The product of a cruel world filled with cruel people.”

The Jabberwocky said (in fine ONCE form) that monsters aren’t born. They’re made.

How did the Jabberwocky become what she is? And *what* exactly is she?–human, monster, cursed creature?

So my theory about the Jabberwocky is that she isn’t human so much as a mythic “other.” She can look human but her essence is beyond the level of human understanding. She, quite simply, feeds on fear. It’s what drives her, it’s what she craves. Jafar’s plan would drive her from Wonderland, her home. I think Jabber is the last of her kind and she wants to stay in WL.

I do sorta wonder about her past. What made her “cruel.” Because if her nature is to incite fear and feed on it, is that really cruel or just what she is?

Fear has always existed, but it’s not a tangible thing. Perhaps at some point in WL history, some big bad wanted to turn fear into a tangible thing to use it as a tool of war, and that’s how the Jabberwocky came to be in human form.

    I like that!

Can we please have her over on ONCE?

I think maybe she’s a being like the Dark One.  She wants control over the vorpal blade.  Maybe it’s her version of the dagger.  She could be the product of a curse or some form of magic.

I agree. That blade is the only thing she seems to fear. The master of the blade seems to control the monster just as whoever controls the dagger controls the dark one.

    Hmm..

Does that mean that there are multiple Dark One blades? One specific to each realm?

I’m not sure that the jabberwocky is a dark one in the purest sense. We’ve never seen Rumple “eat” other people’s fears. But I do wonder if whoever created the dark one dagger also created the jabberwocky’s blade.

    *whispers* Sneaky Fairy.

Actually I do like the idea that someone made multiple blades for various curses. A Dark One Curse, a Fear Eater curse, ect.

She sounds like a Desperate Soul to me.

If there is no connection between the Jabberwocky’s blade and the Dark One’s blade, I will be a little disappointed. The Blue Fairy did say that the Dark One’s curse was from another land (as in not the Enchanted Forest).

I really hope there is a connection there.
