Baelfire lived centuries ago before August was cut up and made into a wooden puppet boy. So how would have August know that Neal is Bae after he jumped him in Tallahassee?
[adrotate group="5"]February 20, 2013 at 4:43 pm #174478KebParticipantThat, I think, is the biggest question this episode introduced. August clearly knew a LOT more than just that he had to protect Emma so she could break the curse. We do know that he knew about Bae, because he impersonated him in order to get the dagger. His knowledge about THAT he attributed to a fairy when Rumple asked.
I suspect that his interaction with Rumple explains at least part of his current disappearance from Storybrooke. Either Rumple has him locked up somewhere, or he’s hiding from Rumple. It could also be that he’s ashamed and doesn’t want BF, Geppetto, and Jiminy finding out what became of him. Or he doesn’t want the Charmings to know how he got there. There’s a lot of reasons for him to be in hiding atm, I guess…but Rumple said “If you’re going to die either way, I might as well get something out of it,” when he let him go…suggesting that he would have been willing to kill Pinocchio once the curse was broken. That plan might have changed with Belle’s involvement, of course…

February 20, 2013 at 4:44 pm #174479RumplesGirlKeymasterEvery time someone poses a questions like this my first reaction is always: Blue Fairy.
We have to find a common thread.
1)Blue knew Bae, helped him escape Papa Rumple after he became the Dark One.
2) Blue knew Pinocchio, turned him into a real boy and probably figured out at some point that Gepetto broke their deal and sent Pinocchio through the wardrobe.Because Baelfire lived so long ago, there are no other connections with characters that we’ve seen thus far. He doesn’t know the Charmings or Red/Granny, the dwarves, ect. The only other person Neal and August have in common is Emma, and she did know who either of them were until very recently.
I believe Blue has had her memories this entire time and has had August working for her outside of SB, including telling August about Emma and Neal."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 20, 2013 at 4:46 pm #174480obisgirlParticipantI thought about the Blue Fairy. She’s the only one other than Rumpel and Hook who would have lived long enough. But I still think that she was cursed and didn’t have any knowledge of her FT world self.
February 20, 2013 at 4:50 pm #174483PheeParticipantI believe that the little Blue fairy told him everything. She was all, “Right, well, your old man put you through the wardrobe even though he wasn’t supposed to, so I’m gonna see to it that we at least get some use out of you.” Then she told him all about Bae and sent him to find him in our world.
February 20, 2013 at 5:06 pm #174487JosephineParticipantPhee, I think you’re probably correct, but someone had to tell August in our world who Neal was. He didn’t go looking up in the White Pages Baelfire and it cross-referenced, “See Neal Cassidy”. Someone told him that Neal was Bae. There is no way he could have figured that out on his own without help.
It all comes back to the Blue Fairy. She made preparations so I’m thinking she knew who she was the whole time. Even Gold didn’t know his true identity until he heard Emma’s name.

February 20, 2013 at 5:24 pm #174494KebParticipantThere were suggestions that Bae’s been on the radar longer than one would suspect–Rumple saying that his son had been running for a long time, when to that point we’ve been led to think their last contact was the moment the moment that Rumple let go of Bae’s hand, so how would he know? And Bae’s statement “for more years than you could know” suggests the possibility that there is more time than just the time it took for him to go from 14 to whatever he is now.
Rumple may have, in the interceding centuries, had some kind of contact with Bae, tracking him down to this particular world and Bae realizing that his father was coming after him. That’s stuff that we may see more about in future episodes.
Blue’s definitely got promise as a link between August and Bae, but we’ve had NO indication that she kept her memories during the curse. She didn’t have a failsafe like Rumple did with Emma’s name, and while she reacted with her normal calm when it was broken, she’s also been around for quite a while. It’s not a bad guess, but we don’t know enough to be sure about her at this point.

February 20, 2013 at 5:31 pm #174495RumplesGirlKeymasterI think you make a good point about Rumple, Keb. It’s very possible that Rumple’s gotten close to finding Bae, closer than Bae would be comfortable with. We know Rumple was very close when he almost got the bean from Hook and Milah in the Crocodile, only to be thwarted by Hook. If Bae was still in communication with someone from FTL (like Blue) then he would know what Rumple was up to and could plan accordingly (because surely Blue knew what Rumple was doing, unless she really is that ineffective at her job or has her own hidden agenda, which I’ve been suspecting ever since The Return and The Stranger).
As far as Blue and her memories: you’re right. There is no definitive moment to point to and go “Ah-ha! She has her memories,” but their might be hints in her open hostility to Rumple from “The Return” and the fact that she is supposed to be the most powerful “good” magic in FTL, yet she couldn’t do anything about the curse, especially given that Good always wins?? She’s either got her own agenda or really ineffective."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"February 20, 2013 at 5:32 pm #174496obisgirlParticipantI would buy that the Blue Fairy told August, or maybe he heard rumors about someone from FT land going to another land without magic and found out it was Rumpel’s son.
But I don’t believe that Blue would have able to retain her FT memories.

But my understanding is that no one except Blue knew about Rumple’s son, including Regina, because she didn’t understand why Gold was suddenly turning against her and her curse in SB and supporting Emma. She didn’t know about Bae and if she didn’t then I don’t know how anyone else could. Cursed Archie also didn’t know because Regina made Cursed Gold childless, assuming that’s what he was. The only one who knew about Bae was Blue (and now Hook, I suppose). August had to get his information from somewhere, and as far as we know before he went through that wardrobe, Pinocchio didn’t know anything about Bae, just like the rest of FTL. So it had to happen AFTER he went through the wardrobe and the only one who knew that information was Blue, who had mysterious “final preparations” right before the curse hit, which I think was getting Bae from Neverland to our world.
