Well, Belle knew that Rumple had once had a son, but before the curse she didn’t know more than that he had lost him. However, she was in Regina’s custody for some time. Though his reluctance to speak about Bae (and he didn’t even say the name until the library in Storybrooke, even to Belle) suggests that by the time the curse came along, he was pretty good at keeping information close to his chest. So it makes sense that aside from those who knew him in the early days of the Dark One (ie, Blue & Hook), people from FTL wouldn’t know.
OTH, Smee knew a lot back then. It probably took a while for Rumple’s web of deals to get so complicated that only he could follow it well enough to know what his ultimate goal was.
Cora knows about Bae now, but she may have gotten that information from Hook, and both of them may have figured out what’s going on from Smee + previous knowledge + Rumple’s behavior when they got to Storybrooke (the spyglass etc).

I’ve been wondering about this too. I reckon we’ll learn more about this in episodes 2×18 and 2×19. It looks like those two particular episodes will be Nealfire and August centric.

Yes, but she only knew because she lived in the Dark Castle with him for a time, and Rumple held on to Bae’s clothing. No one else had the pleasure of living with Rumple.

Smee had heard whispers of his son, and when Smee and Rumple met in the tavern it wasn’t too long after Rumple had lost Bae in the first place, so not enough time had passed for people to forget Bae altogether.

I will grant that Cora knew about Bae, absolutely. But I think that had more to do with Cora and Rumple’s relationship, whatever it was. I don’t think she was the one passing information off to August.

What if BF told Pinoccio about him but before the curse? And not only aboout Bae, also abut the dagger, for if i remember well August telling Mr. Gold that “a little faery” had told him aboit the dagger.
That makes me think that BF spke to him before being Mother Superior. And, as August didn’t loose his memories…But there is still the missing piece of how he knew that Neal was Bae. He might have known all about Bae and the dagger, but how would he know that Bae was going by the alias Neal and where to find him. Someone had to have given him additional information about Neal in our world. There is no way August would have figured out Bae was going by the name Neal in our world without help after the curse was enacted.

My best friend has a theory that IF Blue has had her memories this entire time, that means the curse didn’t affect her meaning she could leave SB. But obviously she could only leave for a short period of time. She found NealFire (she is a fairy after all) and then passed on the information to August who was her link to the outside world.
A second theory that is rather spoilery so I’ll black it out. In the next few episodes we learn that Neal has a fiance named Tamara. If Neal if in fact Peter Pan, then many have speculated that Tamara is Tinkerbell. Perhaps she was tasked by Blue to keep track of Neal once in our world. And that's how Blue has her information

Maybe he had come to Storybrooke many times before and talked to BF. we never really know whether BF was cursed like everyone else. She had referred to making “preparations” in “The Stranger.”

That’s a good point we don’t really know what those preparations involved at all, someone had to have been giving Pinocchio some kind of guidence to know what to do. When August took Henry’s book he had to have been looking for it in the first place, he would have known about it. He also would have had to have known who Bae was exactly even though he was around 200 years before him. It keeps coming back to the blue fairy for me she’s the only other one other than Rumple who could link people over that amount of time.
I’m thinking the Blue Fairy as well, and that August has seen her many times. Who knows, he might have been the one to bring Henry to Storybrook, seeing how he knew where Emma was and all. And, Regina did say back in season one that August looked familiar to her. And another tidbit, he knew about the well at Storybrook and it’s “magical properties” Only other person so far to know that was Rumpel. Even Regina didn’t know about it. Hmmmm.

She has her memories,” but their might be hints in her open hostility to Rumple from “The Return” and the fact that she is supposed to be the most powerful “good” magic in FTL, yet she couldn’t do anything about the curse, especially given that Good always wins?? She’s either got her own agenda or really ineffective.
Let’s also not forget that in The Return, August went to see Mother Superior, and we saw them ending a tense conversation in whispered tones. That was pretty much the moment I figured that Mother Superior still had her memories. Why would Mother Superior be having secretive meetings with August? Unless they were meeting as Blue and Pinocchio.
