In both worlds, Rumplestiltskin/Gold says to Snow/MM, “I am invested in your future.” We can speculate that Rumple is invested in Snow’s future because he knows he will have need of Emma in the future. But why would Gold care about MM’s future? Does his agenda somehow involve MM remembering her identity? Reuniting with David/Charming?

March 19, 2012 at 4:24 am #139137cruel_fortunaParticipantThis is a long-shot but it’s my theory for why Rumple might be so invested in both Snow & Charming’s future.
If you look back to episode 14: “Dreamy” Belle says the following when it comes to true love, “Love is hope. It Fuels our Dreams.”
Based on the assumption that being in love is like being in a dream, I came up with the following.
Dreams = Sleep = Sleep could be attributed to a piece of the Dark Curse that Rumple told the Queen how to enact. It would carry over in Storybrooke that sleep ( like Snow being in an enchanted sleep that only true love’s kiss could break ) would be translated as the time never moving forward in Storybrooke. This would also explain to a degree why Rumple is so invested in both of their future’s.
The Evil Queen enacted the curse because of her hatred for Snow White.Rumple needs both Snow ( MM ) , Emma, Regina ( Evil Queen ) to forgive each other & that will break the curse.
…. & I totally went off topic.
I might delete this post & just create a new topic for it.
Tell me if I should.March 19, 2012 at 11:55 am #139161miaParticipantThis quote ties with what Rumpel says about love “Love is the most powerful magic of all.” and “If you can bottle love, you can do anything.”
I believe that whatever Rumpel wants, whatever his agenda, he needs great power for it. Yes, we learn in this episode that Rumpel is “the most powerful man in the world”, but apparently not powerful enough to do what he wants to do.
Daniel asked in the podcast (I think it was him) why he needed a love potion. That potion with the hairs is NOT a love potion! It’s bottled love! Pure power!
I think Rumpel did this whole thing (and for this theory I’m saying he wanted the dark curse to happen) so that he’d have a major happy ending and with it could somehow channel all true love that comes with it, thus harnessing power until he has enough for whatever his objective is.If this is too weird to understand I’ll try explaining it again. 😀

For some reason Rumple has recognized that Snow’s and James’ love is so powerful that even curses and potions can’t permanantly destroy it. For example, after giving Snow the “forgetting” potion he tells Grumpy that nothing can make her the way she used to be again and there isn’t a potion that can make her fall back in love with James. But then he gives her the bow and arrow and tells her that it never misses it’s target. It obviously wasn’t meant for the EQ then because the arrow hit James. She didn’t need a potion to make her fall back in love with James. Even though she couldn’t remember him, she fell in love with him all over again. Rumple obviously knew that their love is so strong that as long as he could get the two of them together again in the right circumstances they would kiss and Snow would then remember him without a potion.
Even though Rumple has now been described as the most powerful man in the world, two things still seemed to have escaped his power – love and life. And in this episode he made the comment “If you can bottle love you can do anything.” I think the two most important people to Rumple have been Bae and Belle and, at least so far, it seems that he believes that they are both dead. He made the comment to James’ father the King that once someone is dead you can’t bring them back – but that was before he had the ability to bottle love – “If you can bottle love you can do anything.” I think that now that he has found a way to bottle love, he is one step closer to finding a way to bring back the dead – which would usually be a very dark process and require the Darkest Curse imagineable, unless you also have the ability to bottle love and use the product of the strongest love that exists (Emma) to destroy the Dark Curse. I found it interesting that when he added James’ hair to Snow’s in the bottle it looked like a DNA helix – which would mean it was Emma’s DNA.
March 19, 2012 at 12:41 pm #139173miaParticipantYes! The DNA helix was my first thought, too! I was just waiting for the connecting bases to appear. 😀

I wonder if somehow he has the abort to make Emma bend to his will now. (Minus the fact she still owes him a favor)
If he does have the bottle in StoryBrooke that may explain why MM and David always seem to find one another like magnets, it is “True Love” the most powerful thing on earth,

I did not see that. 😮

And then there’s this quirky thing they both do: after taking James’ cloak, Rumple sniffs it–and MM did the same thing with Emma’s baby blanket after Emma told her Henry thinks she and Emma are mother and daughter. I can’t help but feel Rumple and Snow are kin or kin-in-law, but I have nothing to support that.
