Maybe this has brought up before, but I just thought of this so if it has I guess I’m a bit slow :p
Anyway I realized the only reason Rumple helped Charming with the ring in the season one finale, was so that he would find Snow and break the Sleeping curse. That would cause Regina to turn to the Dark Curse, which would bring them all here like we all know.
I guess Maleficent wrecked Rumple’s plans when she took the Dark Curse instead of Regina, so he had to get things back on track.
I never thought about that! I always assumed it was because Rumpel had to have a saviour born of true love, so that the “safety valve” he put into the curse (by adding the true love potion to it) would actually work. Then he would be able to leave and find Bae.
That is exactly why he helped David. Rumple has his agenda to follow.
Keeper of Pandora's Box & The Yellow Brick Road.
which makes me wonder why he helped Henry control his ‘dream’ for apparently no price!
In the hopes that it might somehow benefit Emma and help her return?
It also makes you wonder why he gave the potion to Snow that made her forget Charming. Rumple did take her hair in the same scene to make the love potion, so I guess he knew the memory potion would be broken, otherwise the hair would have been useless.
He’s a chess mastermind, right? He needed to have a reason to make a deal with Charming. He created the problem so he could take advantage of the solution.

One would’ve thought he would be at least pictured next to a chessboard some time yet I’ve never seen him play! 😉
lol exactly :p
I have a feeling Henry was given the charm because he reminds Gold of Bae. Rumple is not an uncaring and he does have the capacity to love. Right now it serves him no good to let Henry suffer. Plus, by helping Henry he is keeping him and thus Emma on his good side. 🙂
