When Regina was first talking about a failsafe in the curse, my first thought was Emma. I remember Gold and Regina talking about this in his shop, but I don’t remember what episode it was. They said something about if Emma were to die, they would all go back to FTL. Has Regina completly forgotten about this little detail?
Maybe this would only have worked before the curse was broken?
I don’t know, it just confused me to add yet another part of the curse we didn’t know about. 🙂

May 3, 2013 at 3:44 pm #190848PheeParticipantYou’re thinking of this scene in Apple Red As Blood…
Regina: I think I’d rather just get rid of her.
Mr. Gold: Well, well. You’re going to have to be quite creative. We both know the repercussions in killing Miss Swan. The curse will be…
Regina: The curse will be broken. That’s because you designed it that way. Undo it.
Mr. Gold: You know… Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. Magic… Well… Is in short supply around here and dwindling by the minute.
Regina: You want the curse broken. Why?
Mr. Gold: That’s not something I care to discuss.
Emma was Rumple’s failsafe. Either the Saviour succeeds and the curse breaks, or she fails and dies and the curse breaks. Either way, the curse breaks so he can find his son.
May 3, 2013 at 3:47 pm #190849obisgirlParticipantThanks for clearing that up Phee 😀
so yes, this is a different failsafe.
May 3, 2013 at 5:04 pm #190858tiara_roseParticipantAs we see that was Rumples failsafe, but Regina has her personal one, where evryone just die and not get back.

May 3, 2013 at 5:20 pm #190864imported_belleParticipantOh okay! So Emma being the failsafe is null and void now that the curse is technically broken.
That makes more sense now.
And it makes sense that Rumple had one and so did Regina.

What if Henry is somehow magically connected to Regina’s fail safe black diamond and that the only way it can be activated is if Henry is sent to another realm by magic. Remember Regina told Henry before she erased his memory that the 2 of them could leave for the Enchanted Forest before the fail safe was activated.
So I’m thinking that once GOAT kidnap Henry and go through the magic bean portal to possibly Neverland that device is somehow activated
Moderator’s Edit: put a spoiler tag around information from an upcoming episode in a non-spoiler thread. Remember that not everyone wants to be spoiled. Thanks–RG

1) Henry was already two times out of Storybrook (Boston, New york)
2) She didn’t have magic in Storbrook to create magic, so it has to be before the curse. You should read what Slurpeez and Rumplesgirl has wrote. I think this idea is great:

SOOOO…do they take Neal's body on the JR? Do they suddenly suspect that he is not truly dead and going to NL is both to save Henry AND to find Neal's spirit? Because the alternative is that they leave his body behind in SB where we think the fail safe is going to go off.slurpeez108 wrote
Okay. I had a moment to think of a possible scenario. Everyone thinks Neal is dead, but Emma and Snow remember that Mulan and Aurora heard from Cora that they could rescue Philip's soul. They make sure Neal's body is taken care of, and it doesn't decay, since he's not really dead. The failsafe trigger gets activated, and everyone races out of a vanishing SB via the magical beans. However, instead of killing everyone, the rest of SB residants get sent back to the EF. In S3, Neal's soul is reunited with his body. Crazy, I know.RumplesGirl wrote:
I like it but something is going to have to be “off” about the death in order for them to think that there is more to his “death.” like it has to be a magical death in order for them think there is a possibility that he is “alive” which makes me think that his death has something to do with the fail-safe. That part of the consequence of him trying to turn off the failsafe is that his spirit is taken to FTLSlurpeez108
Rumple, Snow and Emma may all suspect there's something off, especially if the Wraith comes into play. They probably know about lost souls being sent to another realm when they're sucked by a Wraith.Regarding the failsafe, yes, I could totally see that really happening. Perhaps I'm way over thinking this, but Neal's life in our world might be completely tied up with the existence of SB. If you think about, if it hadn't been for Baelfire, then Rumple never would have created a dark curse that brought everyone from the EF to SB. And now, it's almost like SB has served its purpose, which was to get Rumple to a Land Without Magic to find Baelfire. So, the price of this dark curse has yet to be paid, because Rumple can't have everything, both magic and his son. Rumple might have designed the failsafe so that he could take Neal back to the EF one day, but maybe he doesn't see the cost yet. Perhaps activating the failsafe is somehow magically tied to Neal's life, and so when SB ceases to exist in this world, Neal ceases to exist in this world. His soul is sent to the same place as Philip's soul.
