Henry told Emma she was in the book and we know the part about her being hidden in the cabinet is in the book. Is Rumple’s prediction about her return in the book? If so that could have prompted Henry to go get her specifically ON her 28th birthday.

But even so, why would that suggest to Henry that it was HIS job to go get her? If it’s her destiny to return, then wouldn’t he just figure she’d show up of her own accord without him having to do anything like go and find her and drag her there? So why would he go buying himself a bus ticket?
But if a bus ticket with his name on it showed up out of nowhere, THEN he’d know he had a role to play.
March 28, 2012 at 11:22 am #140141hjbauParticipantIt seems much more likely to me that he just went to the bus station and bought the ticket. And i actually do think the book said on Emma’s 28th birthday she will come back and break the curse. Though i think part of it is that it is destiny that he was to go on her birthday of all days. Maybe once he found out about her he found out she was turning 28 and thought he should go get her. Maybe i just don’t see an issue with saying that things were meant to be.
March 28, 2012 at 11:35 am #140146PheeParticipantI don’t have any issues with things being destined either. But I also believe that Rumple/Mr Gold manipulated everything to do with how the curse plays out, as opposed to having “seen the future”. The question from a couple of pages back was how did Emma arrive on the exact date that had been predicted if it wasn’t something Rumple had “seen”. I’m just saying that if Mr Gold planted the ticket, that’d explain the perfect timing, and then my theory that he’s manipulating everything and he can’t really “see” still holds water.
March 28, 2012 at 11:44 am #140148hjbauParticipantI don’t think that Rumpel can SEE either. I just don’t think that it is necessary for him to manipulate this situation for it to come to pass. I think that Henry got the book a few months ago. He decided to look up Emma and found out it was almost her birthday so he went to look for her. I think it was meant to be. It also could somehow be magic. That she wished it. That she wished that she didn’t have to be alone on her birthday and the action was already set in motion to grant that wish.
I just don’t find it necessary that Rumpel have his hands in everything. I like the idea of using Emma’s magic and just the idea that this was destiny. There was already a prophecy. I think that if they are going to have someone helping Emma outside of Storybrooke it should not be Gold. I think that i find him being the causer for everything as uninteresting and i like the idea that it was meant to be more. That is just me.
March 28, 2012 at 1:27 pm #140174SnickerdoodleParticipantWow, hjbau, I rarely disagree with you. I do think Rumple has some gift for future happenings, but I do not think he knows it all. Someone suggested to me that perhaps it was magic and that since all magic comes with a price, it costs him something to look into the future. I kind of like that idea. Anyway, I think it just happened to be Emma’s birthday when Henry showed up, I don’t think he knew. It was a part of the destiny of it all…but maybe he knew from the book she was to return on her 28th birthday. I just don’t think he knew the day he showed up it was her birthday. I just don’t think he planned that. But there was a domino effect of circumstances that led to him finding her on that day. MM gave Henry the book, he read it, he looked for his mom online, took MM’s credit card, got his answers, bought a bus ticket, got a cab, showed up at Emma’s. I don’t know, maybe he did know. Maybe the who’s your momma website had that info about her and he knew from the book he needed to move.
All that to say, I don’t think Mr. Gold had anything to do with it all, unless he gave MM the book. Henry tends to avoid Mr. Gold. He doesn’t trust him, and he doesn’t know who he is.
And just want to point out that Mr. Gold was the one who told Granny to kick Emma out of the motel. I do think Rumpel/ Mr. Gold plays with cause and effect a lot. Because he has power or resources, he causes things to head in a certain direction — like kicking Emma out of the hotel, but then he sees her move in with MM. He knows she is the one to break the curse, I think sometimes he just continues to test the destiny of it all and create a “cause” so to speak to see the effect. Like planting the key for MM to leave, but now he sees that Emma does have a persuasive power with her friend/mother. These incidents all give him clues to what is happening, and at this point only he and Henry know for sure who Emma is. If Regina doesn’t suspect she will real soon:)
So, that is what leads me to believe he doesn’t always see the future, but he already knows an outcome and plays with the “pieces” along the way to glean his information. But I think that knowing the outcome is the future he can find out, but perhaps finding that out costs him something. So, its kind a combination of views. Does any of that make sense? If not, just skip my post.

Emma says “Let me guess, the mayor’s office just called to remind you.”
Regina would have been the one to press Granny to kick out Emma and not Mr. Gold.
March 28, 2012 at 6:12 pm #140196hjbauParticipantAnd maybe that is it, sjm, maybe Rumpel has visions or something and doesn’t really know all of the future. There just seems to be so much that he doesn’t know. And we haven’t seen him having any sort of vision. We have only seen him knowing things. And i think everything we have seen him know he could know other ways then the need for visions or a crystal ball or something.
I think that he could have known it was Emma’s birthday. But i agree that more likely it was just meant to be that day. And that the course of events that lead to that moment were just set in motion though i still don’t want them to be set in motion by Rumpel.

Does any of that make sense?I think the difference i see is that Rumpel isn’t seeing the future so much as causing the future to happen. Like he wants a certain outcome. Like he wanted the Fairy Godmother’s wand she he made a deal with King George for the information to find the wand. I think he caused that to happen, but didn’t see that. Like he didn’t know where the Fairy Godmother was so he had to do a deal with George to find her.
