September 30, 2013 at 11:20 pm #213188SlurpeezParticipantI am a Oncer first and foremost. Would I be disappointed if my preferred “ship” didn’t sail? Sure. Also, I don’t feel there is a general negative atmosphere here. While people really love their chosen “ships’ I feel people are mostly respectful about it. I haven’t seen many if any hurtful name-calling or immature comments. If you think that there is a trend towards negativity, do you think there is a way to improve it? I’ve always felt that this was a place where people could speak their minds freely without having to tiptoe, yet while maintaing decorum.

Oh gosh no. Not here. I meant out there. In the wild. Where the Twitter Bird and the Tumbeasts roam and devour the souls of “the other”
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 30, 2013 at 11:48 pm #213200sweetgrassParticipantfor me, it will depend. This is actually my first ship. I have never shipped in any show or book, and was perfectly happy so long as it was a good story. For Once, my fear is that my favorite character will get the short stick. Maybe because this is a show about fairy tales and happy endings. I want that for my favorite character and I want it to be epic. I worry that my favorite will be undermined or regulated to a bad story and no happy ending.
Keeper of Hook and Emma's smoldering first kiss, a certain Pirate's sauciness, the Evil Queen's snarkiness, Grumpy's gruffness and a drop of true love to make it all go down smooth.

I think we will see that not everyone gets a happy ending, e.g. Graham suffering and killed and Tamara not get her redemption. Or maybe their happy ending isn’t what we as fans envision for them.
And then there is a perverse part of me that revels in movies where the guy doesn’t get the girl in the end. 👿

Or have you become more “die-hard” in your shipping approach and now play Dido’s “White Flag” when your ship is mentioned? The ONCE fandom climate is slightly toxic at the moment and maybe 95% of it is over shipping. So now I wanna know, if your ship doesn’t sail, are you done with ONCE? (reiterates Jo’s “no name” policy)
Yup … I do not read fan fiction … I do not ship couples … I let the story wash over me and just enjoy it. I do not even let the OUaT POD-CASTER sway my thoughts and theories … even if they dislike or like various parts of the story or their theories are in conflict with mine.
I am going to go with what H&K produce….
NONNIEApril 2, 2014 at 6:45 pm #258498obisgirlParticipantI wrote a little blog post today that I thought would help fans cope:
It goes back to something I learned a long time ago when it comes to ‘shipping: you have to accept early on that your OTP may not work out, so when the time comes and something does happen that makes it not happen, you’re better prepared for it.
I’ve been a part of ‘ships before where the ‘ship I ‘shipped didn’t happen for one reason or another but it didn’t change my enjoyment of the ‘ship. It just took some time to get used to but eventually, I found a way to move on and still enjoy what I still had: fanfiction, fan art and my fellow ‘shippers.
And quite frankly, if you devote your time to fanfiction, fan art or whatever to celebrate your favorite character, that’s the best way to honor them. Creativity is an amazing positive outlet and can be very catharsis when you want it to be.
Hope that advice helps! 🙂

We get it, it’s fairy tale vs real world. We don’t need to be introduced to every. single. fairy. tale. character. and. then. some. Though I don’t think last episode was their finest moment in some respects, they did handle other subplots quite well. (Hook apologizing to Belle in his awkward way and Belle giving him the crap he deserves for it…CaptainFire…SwanFire, all some good stuff. Then…the last 20 mins. But I digress.) This back half of the season has been some of my favorite episodes, so I think they are starting to focus a bit better.
In terms of ships – yes, I ship a ship. But I also remember this is an ensemble show. Things are not always going to go my way. It’s why though I have a ship, I have a 2nd favorite ship, I like the counter of my ship, I ship the bromances…you see what I’m getting at. So if I don’t see the ship I like become canon, I don’t think it’d cause me to lose favor with the show, especially at this point.
April 2, 2014 at 9:47 pm #258566JosephineParticipantI’m not giving up on the show but I’m not following spoilers or theorizing anymore. From most people I’ve talked to, it’s not the death that annoys people. It’s the plot and writing. Like Jenna said, their storylines need tightening and they need focus. Since the show has come back, heck since 3A, there have been red flags for me of things that make absolutely no sense at all. They have a story to tell, but there is static and it’s not coming through clearly to the audience. Whether that static is network execs, fandom or a combination we’ll never know, but the show has changed.
I have given up shows before. I watch for more reasons than shipping. And when I give up a show it’s for non-shipping reasons. When the storyline becomes so subpar or changes from what I fell in love with I do quit watching. I will be watching but skeptical about the rest of the season. However, this show is no longer my favorite and hasn’t been since the beginning of 3A.

This! I’ll still be watching the rest of S3. Depending on how that turns out, I may or may not come back for S4. I currently feel like they’ve done an injustice to one of the core messages of the show, it’s no longer about having hope of second chances and happy endings IMO. Whether or not they can salvage that theme is what will dictate if I continue with the show. I can’t get the same enjoyment out of it if I no longer think the moral of the story can be trusted.
