Why not just let Henry return, since his soul is still doomed to relive the consequences of the sleeping curse with the knowledge that Mr. Gold will always heal him?
Because for whatever reason they needed to do it now. And even so, Mr. Gold said they were lucky all that happened to Henry was a burn on the arm. Obviously it can do much worse to you in there.

Yes, all he sustained were a few burns on his arm, but that was just the first time. What would have happened after the third, fourth or fifth time? He could have easily been consumed by the flames and then they would have had an even bigger problem on their hands.
It was a risk that Charming was willing to take, and even Mr. Gold and Regina (two experts in the field of magic) thought that it might work. So, no one could have predicted the terrible outcome.

I have been hearing all over the internet that HENRY should be allowed to go back into the flames. Anyone who would send a 10 year old child into a burning inferno is lower than CORA, HOOK, RUMPLE and REGINA put together. I really question their thought process, yes this is JUST A TV SHOW but it still makes me wonder about them.I sure would not let them babysit any child/ grandchild of mine.

GEE, I do not think CHARMING will just sit around ready to be burned. I saw the curtain area behind SNOW in the clip. I think he will be beating down the door / wall whatever getting out of that room…. Maybe he will find Prince Phillip… or maybe a room with water to flood the burning room…. After- all anything can happen in OUaT.

I think Charming will find his way to Wonderland next episode. That is a dreamland afterall. If he’s lucky he will run in to the white rabbit and follow it up through the rabbit hole. He will be like the opposite Alice, maybe his ‘real’ name, the name we haven’t learned yet from his time as the shepherd, is Alex 😀

But my point is that Henry is fated to return to the inferno repeatedly anyway, because it is an unstoppable side-effect of the sleeping curse. Of course, I don’t approve of Henry returning to the netherworld, but there is nothing Charming, Regina, or even Mr. Gold could do to prevent Henry from dreaming about that fire disco. Mr. Gold said in 2×7 said he could not prevent Henry’s soul from going there; all Mr. Gold could do was give an enchanted locket to Henry to help him control his actions while asleep. Despite Charming volunteering to go to the netherworld instead, Henry will continue to return there anyway whenever he goes to sleep. Since Henry will go back to the inferno every time falls asleep, he might as well have been the one to deliver the message.

Of course, I know Henry returning to the inferno is more dangerous than just a burn on the arm. However, Henry is lucky even to have access to Mr. Gold’s magic to heal his burns. Henry is doomed to risk being burned over and over, because there is no way to prevent Henry from returning there. Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I really don’t think Charming even considered that just because he went instead of Henry this time doesn’t mean that Henry is now forever safe in SB. The only way to protect Henry is if he never falls asleep.

While Charming going under the sleeping curse was brave, it was in vain if his intention was just to protect Henry. Despite David’s sacrifice, Henry will keeping going there anyway. Henry will go there a third, fourth, fifth, and who knows how many countless times. Maybe there is a chance for Snow to teach Henry how to block going there as she was eventually able to do, but only if she returns to SB. In the meantime, Henry is doomed to risk his life every night. Also, while Charming loves Henry and wants to protect him, I think Charming’s deeper motivation was to see his wife again, believing her kiss would wake him right back up. He was a bit blinded by his faith.

I think Mr. Gold knew putting David under the curse was all for naught, since he know Henry’s soul is bound to return the the netherworld. Yet, Mr. Gold was willing to give Charming what he wanted anyway. Also, despite her efforts to reform, Regina’s motivations for putting Charming under the sleeping curse are probably less than pure; it’s rather convenient for her to get full custody of Henry now that Prince Charming is asleep, perhaps permanently, while Snow and Emma are stuck in the EF.

MAYBE HENRY WILL SAVE CHARMING
I do think Charming is just trying to get to Snow sooner then when Henry will fall asleep again. I do not think he wants HENRY to go deliberately into the fire pit… it is one thing for Henry to go in when he falls into a natural sleep; something else to promote the action.

I think the burn is a consequence of “going deeper” into the netherworld. Before when they were just sleeping, Henry and Aurora didn’t have burns. It wasn’t until they made contact with one another that the burns started popping up. I don’t think one is supposed to be communicating in that inferno and when you go “deeper” to explore the area or communicate, you suffer the burns.. or worse.
So even though Henry is fated to go back to that room until his mind can protect him from going there, he isn’t going “into the deep” of the netherworld and therefore will not have any physical harm.
Which is why Charming went in. Because he had to go in deeper to get the message across.

I was not thinking of you per say… this has been a frequent comment on several podcast and several blogs…. I am going to stop surfing for a while if I continue to read these comments…. I get too upset.
I will just agree to disagree.

.November 29, 2012 at 6:32 am #162806gigiParticipantslurpeez108 is right. It was quite a vain and unwise move to go under the sleeping curse while it didn’t really prevent Henry from going back there. Now Henry is officially has no family (bio) around to protect him 🙁
