Colin O’Donoghue is a series regular, but that doesn’t mean he can stick around. I read on ABC’s board, where a poster said the show’s creators already said Hook will be killed off by the end of season 2. If that’s true, then I’m very unhappy with that.
Recently, I read an article entitled: “Once Upon a Time, the series where hunks go to die”. Sadly, I have to admit, it has a point. OUAT is starting to become a deserving object of mockery. After so many characters dying over, over, and over again, and a story line which is way too much like a soap opera, I have come to the conclusion that the writers do not have an imagination capable of preventing Once’s inevitable cancellation.
Why do I say that? Once’s writers are the same writers who wrote for Lost. Lost was good, but this show doesn’t have JJ Abrams. Lost almost didn’t make it, before it really got good. The show’s powers-that-were, were forced to make changes. It was almost cancelled after season 3 and not just because of long hiatuses. It was because the writers kept frustrating viewers with bad story lines, too much jumping around. Their writers seem to like two things: Flash-backs, and death. Both have been prominent with both Lost, and with Once Upon a Time. The running question has become: “Who will be the next character to die”?
They have a good thing with Hook, and I’m afraid they’re going to shoot themselves in the foot. After 3 weeks of a rating jump, the show switched gears to an episode which had nothing to do with the story line at hand, and it had the lowest ratings the show’s had since it started. As a viewer, I see a pattern of destructive behavior here, and it has me concerned for OUAT’s future. I’ll be surprised if it survives season 3 because if they kill off Hook, I think they’re going to make a lot of people mad. This show was great, and carried good potential. It still does, and will if changes are made, and if it is handled by people whose purposes are aligned to the show’s success, and do not take their viewers for granted.

Unless I see a video of the writers saying that ‘Hook will be killed off’ then I don’t believe anything other ‘posters’ say about major events in the show, such as killing off characters. I have never seen Lost, but I know enough to know that Once Upon a Time has a very different plot, and therefore the writers would probably not go in the same direction as their previous show. These writers aren’t stupid, they know that the fans LOVE Hook, so they would never kill off Hook, especially with the chemistry Colin has with Jennifer.
Just because people died on this show who were ‘hunks’ doesn’t mean Hook will die. Also the writers themselves ship Hook and Emma, and they love Colins’ portrayal of Captain Hook. The writers go by not only their own ideas, but also the reactions that the fans have.
I agree that the ratings will most likely go down if Hook dies, but that does not necessarily mean it will happen. I know many people think that Rumple will kill Hook or Hook will be killed while getting his revenge. However my theory is that because Cora is coming to town, she will be the main villian. Therefore all storybrooke residents, including Hook and Rumple may need to team up to take her down. So if the writers take a similar path to this (which i hope they will) Hook won’t be killed.
So at the end of the day, its all about the money. The more ratings the show gets, the more money the wirters get. So i highly doubt they will kill Hook because since Hook has been introduced, the ratings have sky rocketed!

I’d also be incredibly surprised if K&H haven’t learned some lessons from their experience on Lost.
Basically, I have faith that the show runners of Once aren’t idiots.

haha, sorry but he doesn’t have any chemistry, he tries to, I admit, but so what, he tries that with Snow too. I think Emma is his target because he sees Cora interested in her and he might be puzzled as to why and wants to explore it but he’s also trying to hide how much Milha is still in his head.
I’ve not grown big on Hook yet, however, I’m not a big fan of writers introducing random characters, making them hover around for a while and then disappear, like with Sidney or Cinderella (I know it’s cause by those actors having other responsibilities but still), now I feel the same will be happening to Mulan and maybe Aurora. and Hugo might appear again, for a short while, why can't he stay for longer…
In my personal view, the best shows are the ones that make the viewers THINK they know what’s coming and that certain characters are safe to assume they will live forever – and then boom, something unexpected would hit them. Killing off a regular character is, in my eyes, the best way to spice up the show and make fans actually WORRY about their other favourite characters because “who knows?”. So I’m really hoping this is where the writers are heading now, they probably want to establish a solid group of regulars and then shock us with eliminating some of them – and that wouldn’t be possible within just one season, so no, don’t think that they would kill Hook so quickly. Eventually – yes, but not yet!November 23, 2012 at 10:03 pm #161872the fairestParticipantI hope not. I like Hook and it would be such a waste if the writers killed him off this season.

Harsh words! It sounds like you’re already writing it of as a failure.
I strongly disagree. First of all if you base it on too many characters dying on the show I would like too ask. Who is the too many ?? Of regulars/main characters I only recall Henry the father, Daniel and Graham… And those deaths all had important meaning too them. So I don’t think the writers are on eny kind of killing spree. I don’t believe they would kill a character just because they like it. If Hook dies, it will have a meaning behind it.I will say, it can be a little frightening sometimes, that they perhabs bring in too many characters for us too get invested in them all. It would be better if they just focus on the ones they’ve already got in the story.

I agree.
Colin’s going to become a series regular later in the season. It doesn’t make any sense to kill him by season’s end.

Thats a big difference. He was more teasing Snow just for the heck of it and to annoy her. I think he does have chemistry with Emma. They didn’t make them have that big and meaningful conversation about love for no reason.
The way i see it, many viewers have become fans of Hook, so if the show kill him then that’ll just make fans unhappy and maybe stop watching the show. The writers respond to the viewers opinions.
I think the show will explore the relationship between Emma and Hook- but it wont happen overnight, it’ll take time. So thats another reason to keep him on the show.November 27, 2012 at 5:30 pm #162583oncewatcherParticipantI couldn’t agree, more.
